This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Stop before the precipice?

A prodigal son’s return?

Or mending the barn after the horse is lost?

Du Heng couldn’t emotionally accept this remark from Doctor Sun, but you can’t deny that he was right.

As for whether this was really his first time doing this, it’s something that can’t be delved into deeply, or pursued, especially after accepting compensation from them; it can’t be scrutinized any further.

After giving Doctor Sun a couple more glances, Du Heng didn’t continue the conversation, instead waved goodbye to Huang Jufu and his wife, reminded them to be at the hospital on time tomorrow, and then left.

To be honest, staying here made him uncomfortable, mainly when he saw that child, it just made him more uneasy.

What he could do now was out of sight, out of mind, solve the problem tomorrow, and send this mother and daughter home directly.

No matter how poor the hometown, there’s a dilapidated house to shelter from the wind and rain; no matter how shabby the house, there’s at least a bed to lie on; no matter how small the bed, you don’t have dozens of people squeezing into one room, especially mixing both men and women.

The hometown has its flaws, but it can let you live like a human being. Even if you are poor, you’re still a person.

But here...

After walking a little further, Du Heng glanced back at the temporary housing where Huang Jufu stayed, letting out a heavy sigh from his heart.

Here, they can only be described as merely ’existing’. Except for themselves, no one cares how they live, or if they can even survive.

Here, several couples live together, they have lost their dignity, concealed their shame, living worse than a dog.

Yet in this group of people, there are those who still exploit them, huh... less than pigs and dogs, those scumbags.

Upon returning to the hospital, Du Heng relaxed a bit, wandered around the hospital room casually, then picked up some materials to read.

Du Heng now clearly realized his shortcomings, that the things from his previous pure traditional medicine theoretical model have become a limiting factor in his forward development.

To make further progress in the industry, to quickly achieve some of his own goals, he needs to seriously study some basic concepts of modern medicine, like chemistry, biology, pathology, pharmacology, etc.

This actually also highlights an issue, that is, the education for medical students in Jinzhou compared to that in the capital, the gap is too big.

Of course, these things aren’t absolutely necessary. Even if he can’t learn them, it won’t affect Du Heng now, maybe just affect his future a bit.

At the beginning of reading these things, Du Heng found it overwhelmingly difficult, not being able to dive into it anytime as he would with traditional medicine texts.

Basically, he’d read for three seconds, then scratch his head for two, then drink tea for five minutes.

Before he could even absorb a few words, Cao Binghe strolled in leisurely with a tea cup in hand, ”Yo, Director Du is studying?”

Du Heng stretched out and scratched his brow, irritably putting down the book in his hand, ”You know what’s odd, with all those obscure and difficult things in traditional medicine, no matter which book, you give me one at random, I could read it with interest.

But these things, clearly written in modern language, every word, and every phrase are the simplest and most understandable, but why can’t I just get into them?

It’s been almost an hour, and I’ve only read one page, nearly fell asleep.”

Cao Binghe, seeing Du Heng’s genuine distress, couldn’t help but laugh, ”In fact, I’d like to know that too. Before I graduated from under Teacher’s supervision, I had the same problem as you do now.

Whenever I’d get assignments to research this or that hypothesis, my head would start throbbing.”

While speaking, Cao Binghe was about to head out with the tea cup, ”Oh well, I thought you’d be free now, just wanted to chat, didn’t expect to interrupt your studies.”

Almost rolling his eyes, Du Heng reached for the cup on the table, ”Since you’re here, let’s chat; I really can’t get into it.

Hey, you know, if I really can’t read it, I’ll just not read it, stick to the traditional medicine and compound path, forget modern medicine.”

Hearing Du Heng say so, Cao Binghe readily settled into the chair opposite Du Heng, gently remarked, ”My friend, it’s best if you don’t learn it; give us ordinary people a chance.

If you do get the hang of modern pharmacology and pathology, and can integrate it with traditional medicine, how are we going to live?”

Du Heng shot a disdainful look at Cao Binghe, took a sip of tea, and asked, ”What’s Professor Lan up to lately? Is he in good spirits?”

Cao Binghe nodded gently, being the most familiar with Lan Changhua’s situation.

”After your classmate Gu was discharged, Teacher has been busy going to the Bureau.”

”Going there for what?” Du Heng asked in confusion, ”Didn’t Professor Lan retire? What business does he still have unfinished?”

Cao Binghe looked at Du Heng with an ambiguous expression, neither crying nor laughing, ”What else could it be because of, of course, it’s because of you.”

”Me?” Du Heng’s hand shook the tea cup, ”I had no idea.”
