This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

A few people came to the treatment room, and Du Heng didn’t resort to any tricks, directly taking the needle tool kit, extracting a few fine needles, and starting the sterilization process.

Upon seeing this scene, the others didn’t think much of it, since Du Heng himself is a TCM, and acupuncture is also a part of traditional Chinese medicine.

But in Director Huang’s eyes, doubt suddenly arose, ”Director Du, you... you’re going to perform acupuncture?”

Du Heng nodded gently, ”To be precise, I’ll be doing acupuncture without moxibustion.”

Director Huang slightly furrowed his brows, ”Can Director Du explain why? You know well that we have yet to find the cause of the deafness in this little girl.

According to the check-up, the nerves and auditory structures of her ears are not problematic, leaving us completely puzzled with no way to treat it.”

The hand Du Heng used for sterilizing the fine needles slightly hesitated, and then he continued the work in hand, softly saying, ”Director Huang should have asked Xiao Huang and his spouse whether the child had malaria before going blind and deaf.”

Director Huang’s brows remained furrowed, his eyes still full of doubt, ”Malaria? Dysentery? This was mentioned by Master Huang and his spouse.

But Director Du, is there a relation between dysentery and the ear not hearing?”

Du Heng gently smiled and placed the sterilized fine needles aside, ”Yes, there’s a significant connection.”

Director Huang’s body slightly straightened, sincerely asking, ”Could Director Du explain it in detail?”

”Concerning why malaria is related to deafness, we must know where malaria originates?” Du Heng didn’t rush to start acupuncture but instead turned around and began to explain seriously.

Of course, this explanation is not only for Director Huang but also for the couple, Huang Jufu.

After a slight pause, Du Heng continued, ”Since the child has always been carried by Xiao Huang’s wife, she knows the details quite well. So when Xiao Huang and Doctor Sun were discussing things yesterday, I chatted with Xiao Huang’s wife for a bit.”

While speaking, Du Heng directly went to the side of the child, gently placing his hand between the child’s chest ribs, ”I asked: During the dysentery, did the child experience fever and chills?

The child’s mother firmly told me that during dysentery, the child had a slight fever and the whole body was trembling.

Moreover, during the illness, when it was severe, the child experienced intense vomiting; even when less severe, although not vomiting, there were instances of dry heaving.

And under what conditions does dysentery cause these situations?”

Director Huang remained silent, as he works in otolaryngology; matters clearly belonging to Internal Medicine, even more specifically in the Gastroenterology Department, were almost all forgotten since his school days.

Du Heng now asking, how could he know?

Similarly, the couple Huang Jufu showed almost identical expressions. Dysentery is just dysentery; who would consider so many things?

Moreover, when they went to give the child treatment at that time, the treating doctor didn’t clarify, so they couldn’t possibly know.

Du Heng was just asking out of habit, not expecting them to answer anything; hence, he continued after a brief pause, ”Moreover, yesterday, when I interacted with the child, I found that even until now, the child still experiences chest and flank distress.

I also found that the milk powder Xiao Huang’s wife made for the child is very sweet, extremely sweet.

Upon inquiry, I learned that all of the child’s supplementary foods, if bland or not sweet enough, the child refuses to eat them, and thus I realized the child’s issue.”

Everyone remained silent, all just staring at Du Heng, hoping he would unravel the puzzle.

Du Heng glanced around at everyone, softly saying, ”When the child fell ill, it was precisely when spring is cold.

In Jinzhou, that place, every year at the junction between winter and spring, the temperature is relatively warm, but often winds occur.

For instance, while you’re comfortably basking in the sun at the corner, suddenly an unexpected gust of wind would blow onto your face.

Through detailed inquiry, I confirmed that during the child’s time of illness, it was exactly that period.”

After Du Heng finished speaking, others’ conditions were unclear to Director Huang, but he was baffled.

Originally discussing the ear issue, it suddenly shifted to dysentery; discussing dysentery would be fair enough, but then suddenly mentioned cold spells and spring winds.

Things practically unrelated, he really had no means to link these to deafness, not knowing what Du Heng was actually implying.

Stealthily scanning around, he found that Huang Jufu and his wife were just staring at Du Heng as if listening to a story.

The only ones displaying any expressions were the two doctors accompanying Du Heng, but their expressions were no better than his, puzzled in thought.

One among them even showed a slightly idiotic expression.

Oh well, better not to ask, just continue listening; Director Huang refocused his gaze on Du Heng.

Du Heng looked at the child, continuing softly, ”The child’s condition at that time, coupled with the timing, led me to easily conclude that wind evil had penetrated the body.

When wind evil invades the body, it often doesn’t deeply enter the viscera, typically lurking between the exterior and interior, waiting for a weakness to delve deeper, advancing and retreating between exterior and interior.

Inward struggles with Yin lead to cold, outward struggles with Yang lead to heat.

This is the reason why the child experienced alternating cold and heat during the illness.”
