This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

So, in this little room, at least an estimated twenty people should be living here.

Some beds have blankets piled up so haphazardly, and the blankets are so black they could drip oil, clearly a bachelor’s bed.

And some beds, while also cluttered, are at least tidy and clean.

In the middle of the room stands a man about the same age as Du Heng.

Although he didn’t show any signs of disgust, his actions reveal he is deliberately avoiding everything in the room, making sure nothing touches him except the floor.

On the bed by the door and window sits a young woman, neatly and tidily dressed, holding a dazed-looking child in her arms.

Huang Jufu put the bag he was carrying on the small table next to the bed and said with a smile to the woman, ”Wife, this is Du, the fellow townsman I told you about, he’s here to see our daughter.”

After introducing Du Heng, Huang Jufu pointed to the clean bed and said, ”Du, the place is small, no chairs available, just sit on the bed.”

”Alright, I’m fine anywhere, you guys go ahead and chat.”

Du Heng put down what he was holding at the foot of the bed and sat directly on it, then began to look at the child in the woman’s arms.

The child was very young, yet behaved very well. When Du Heng took her from her mother, she only trembled a little and did not start crying or making a fuss.

Blind, deaf!

Alas.

”Master Huang, I just explained your child’s situation to your wife, but she said you needed to make the decision.” The man in the middle of the room began to speak to Huang Jufu as soon as he came in.

Huang Jufu rubbed his hands together and asked timidly, ”Doctor Sun, go ahead, I’m listening.”

Doctor Sun cleared his throat lightly, ”Then I’ll say it again.

This morning, I clearly explained your child’s situation at the hospital, so I won’t repeat the specifics.

Let’s talk about getting your child a cochlear implant.”

Huang Jufu stiffened slightly, speaking with a rough voice, ”I’m listening, Doctor Sun.”

Doctor Sun’s face was full of sympathy, and he said softly, ”The surgery for the child can’t be delayed any longer now.

If delayed further, even if the cochlear implant is done, it might not work.

Initially, having this surgery in our hospital would be best. But since you’re from out of town, your medical insurance doesn’t cover it, making the costs quite high.

Considering your family’s situation, I helped you contact a company specializing in cochlear implants.

They offer some subsidies and reductions for families facing difficulties like yours.”

Huang Jufu wasn’t attracted by the words subsidy and reduction but worriedly asked, ”Doctor Sun, can such a company perform cochlear implant surgeries?”

Doctor Sun thumped his chest and assured, ”Rest assured, the cochlear implant surgery itself is not difficult.

Although it’s a company, they mainly focus on cochlear implant equipment, and they’ve done dozens of cases already, so their experience isn’t an issue.

If you’re worried, once you’re at their company, you can check the successful cases; they’re all recorded and verifiable.”

Huang Jufu glanced back at Du Heng, seeing him focused on playing with the child, he looked back at Doctor Sun.

”Doctor Sun, so... how much cheaper would the costs be at the company you mentioned?” Huang Jufu asked his most pressing question.

Doctor Sun sighed languidly, ”The total cost of this surgery, from start to finish, would be around 150,000 to 200,000 yuan at the hospital.

The costs are roughly 30,000 yuan for surgery, 100,000 yuan for a domestic cochlear implant, and about 20,000 yuan for hospitalization.

On top of that, there’s the cost of caring for the child and nutrition expenses, which could add up to another 30,000 yuan.”

Huang Jufu stayed silent, waiting for Doctor Sun’s further explanation.

”If you go to the company I recommended, firstly, their surgery fees are lower by 10,000 yuan, since they set the prices themselves, maybe you could negotiate for even lower.”

Doctor Sun earnestly introduced, ”Secondly, the cost of their cochlear implant, sourced directly from the manufacturer, is much cheaper than the hospital’s.

A domestic cochlear implant at the hospital is 100,000 yuan, but they only charge 80,000 yuan, saving you 20,000 yuan.

Adding their reductions, overall, you could save 50,000 to 60,000 yuan.”

After speaking, Doctor Sun scrunched his nose slightly, shifted gently towards the door, and continued saying, ”Of course, if you’re skeptical about the external companies, you could still opt for the hospital surgery, and I’ll help schedule a time.”

Huang Jufu felt tempted, hesitated for a moment, and then carefully asked, ”Then... Doctor Sun, if we go to the company you mentioned, will you still perform the surgery?”

Doctor Sun nodded seriously, ”That’s up to you; you can request me to do it, or let their doctors do it.”

This put Huang Jufu in a dilemma.

He wanted to go to the external company because it was a few tens of thousands cheaper. Though he still didn’t have enough money, saving several tens of thousands made it easier to borrow.

But he was also afraid of Doctor Sun’s suggestion not being legitimate.

After all, it’s a surgery, and carelessness is not an option.

Seeing the hesitant Huang Jufu, Doctor Sun slowly said, ”Get back to me soon; the subsidy at this company is part of an event and has both time and quota limits.

If you’re late, you might miss this discount.”

This startled the already conflicted Huang Jufu, clearing his mind of other thoughts, and he just wanted Doctor Sun to secure a spot for him first.

But Du Heng suddenly spoke up at this time, ”Doctor Sun, right? Can I ask you a few questions?”

Doctor Sun looked at Du Heng in surprise, scrutinized him from top to bottom, and said, ”Go ahead.”

”First question, this company you mentioned, what kind of company is it? Do they produce and sell medical devices, or are they a medically accredited institution?

If it’s a medical device production and sales company, are they qualified and capable of performing surgeries? Especially cochlear implant surgeries? Aren’t they afraid of getting caught and put in jail?”

Du Heng calmly looked at Doctor Sun, ignoring Doctor Sun’s rapidly changing facial expression, ”If it’s a medically accredited institution, what is the scope of their accreditation?”

Doctor Sun’s face turned quite unpleasant, but he didn’t answer Du Heng’s question. Instead, he turned to Huang Jufu, ”Master Huang, the child is yours; it’s your decision whether to have the surgery, don’t let an outsider interfere.”

Huang Jufu is not a fool.

He originally had doubts about Doctor Sun’s suggestion; he was just pressured to the point where, driven by parental love, his mind had gone blank.

Now seeing Du Heng bringing up the questions in his heart, he directly said, ”This Du is my fellow townsman, and he’s also a doctor; I listen to him.”

”Doctor?” Doctor Sun’s face changed again.

Du Heng chuckled softly, ”Doctor Sun, you haven’t answered my questions yet.”

Doctor Sun took a deep breath, ”There’s nothing more to say. I made the suggestion just to save you money. If you don’t trust it, then don’t go.”

Du Heng smiled and shook his head, ”Alright, then let me ask you other questions.

Hospitals now use low-priced medications and instruments, and the country eliminated the practice of compensating with drugs long ago. Yet you say your hospital charges over 20,000 yuan extra for a cochlear implant, is this true?

If true, then your hospital’s Dean, Secretary, procurement officers, involved Department Directors, attending Physicians, etc., would face penalties.

If it’s not true, do your Director and Dean know you’re spouting nonsense here?”
