This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

However, thinking about the man’s characteristics as described by Kang Zhirong, Wu Shengnan still felt it was better to find Lawyer Zhou.

After all, she really didn’t have a good way to deal with such a rogue.

As for Du Heng, who had hung up the phone, he touched his chin and fell into deep thought.

He was thinking about whether or not to call Kang Zhirong.

If he didn’t call, he was afraid Kang Zhirong might misunderstand or let his imagination run wild.

If he did call, he didn’t know what to say this time.

I can’t really call Kang Zhirong to praise him as I just told Wu Shengnan, can I?

After thinking about it, Du Heng decided not to make the call.

Anyway, they were all adults, and everyone had to pay the price for their actions.

Moreover, Kang Zhirong said that he had nothing to do with the female assistant. But if there was really nothing, was it appropriate for him, as a colleague, to get involved in other people’s emotional disputes?

So, it’s a lesson learned; the young man should gain some experience from this.

After making a decision, Du Heng dealt with the matters sent by the project team and went straight to sleep.

The next morning, Du Heng didn’t go to the hospital first but was called back to the small building from the day before yesterday.

The situation here was similar to when Du Heng left yesterday. A few old men had left, and some staff from relevant departments had changed shifts, but everyone else was still here.

Director Meng, who was in charge of the treatment, had a complete change of attitude towards Du Heng this time. He was much more familiar and cordial than before.

If outsiders saw this, they wouldn’t think that this was only their second meeting.

The other people present also had similar attitudes to Director Meng, and they all greeted Du Heng proactively.

Even if some were still putting on the airs of an Old Predecessor, they would actively return a smile when Du Heng greeted them, no longer showing the indifferent attitude of the day before.

Director Meng pulled Du Heng into the office and said with a smile, ”Doctor Du, let’s not waste words. The old man’s condition is the best proof.

Now we only have one question: how do we proceed with his treatment?”

Du Heng frowned slightly.

He had just examined the old man’s condition with Director Meng, so he wasn’t as optimistic as Director Meng appeared. ”Continue with the current prescription for three more days,” he said. ”Once the elderly patient’s body regains some self-regulatory ability, we can then make adjustments based on his actual condition.”

Seeing Du Heng’s expression, Director Meng also became serious. ”Doctor Du, are you not optimistic about the elderly patient’s condition?”

Du Heng hesitated for a while and then nodded. ”The elderly patient’s viscera are now severely depleted, essentially nearing their end. If the prescription needs to be adjusted, we must consider the condition of all his viscera.

During the process of correcting imbalances, if any visceral organ fails to keep pace, the equilibrium will be shattered once more.

That consequence...”

Director Meng was silent for a moment, then asked, ”But aren’t you just simply nourishing kidney water now? Isn’t that fine?”

Du Heng shook his head. ”It’s not the same. Kidney essence transforms into kidney qi, and kidney qi contains Yin and Yang. Kidney yin and kidney yang can support and coordinate the Yin and Yang of the body’s viscera, so the kidney is the ’root of the Yin and Yang of the five viscera.’

When kidney yang is abundant, the viscera, body, and sensory orifices are warmed and nourished, their various functions become vigorous, and the spirit is invigorated.

When kidney yin is sufficient, the viscera, body, and sensory orifices are moistened and nourished, their functions remain robust without becoming overactive, and the spirit is conserved within.

So, although it seems like nourishing the kidneys, it is also subtly supplementing other viscera.”

Director Meng still didn’t understand. ”So can’t we just keep adjusting like this?”

”No,” Du Heng said decisively. ”There is a limit to everything, and too much is as bad as too little.”

Director Meng was silent for a long moment. ”Doctor Du, is there anything you need to instruct us on regarding the elderly patient’s condition?”

Du Heng glanced briefly at Director Meng. How am I supposed to answer that?

After thinking about it, Du Heng returned to the previous topic. ”Let’s talk about it in a couple of days. Besides, with all you great experts here, like Director Meng, I shouldn’t speak out of turn.”

Looking at the cautious Du Heng, Director Meng suddenly smiled. ”That’s fine. Let’s wait and see the actual situation in a few days. Anyway, there is no critical danger now, and we all have time.”

Du Heng returned a faint smile but didn’t pick up on this line of conversation.

Director Meng then continued, ”Are you free tonight? Director Zhang from the Drug Administration would like to invite you to dinner.”

Du Heng was stunned.

In the half a year since he came to the Capital, the only senior official he knew was Lan Changhua’s son, who was also a director.

Apart from him, let alone a director, he didn’t even know a single section chief.

So, who is this Director Zhang? He wouldn’t dare attend a dinner hosted by someone he didn’t know.

Seeing Du Heng’s hesitation, Director Meng explained with a smile, ”This Director Zhang from the Drug Administration is the grandson of the elderly patient in there, and he’s the sole grandson of their Zhang family.”

Understood!

Director Meng continued, ”The invitation is sincere; he just wants to thank you for saving his grandfather. There’s nothing else.”

Du Heng thought, This kind of person probably values their reputation highly; refusing would be impolite.

Moreover, he should expand his own social circle in the Capital.

After thinking it through, he promptly nodded and promised.

Director Meng was very happy and said with a smile, ”That’s great. I will reach out to Doctor Du when you finish work in the afternoon.”

Once this matter was settled, Du Heng went straight back to the hospital.

After working non-stop until the end of his shift, Du Heng received a message from Director Meng and prepared to head to the dinner appointment.

However, just as he stepped out of the hospitalization department’s entrance, a figure blocked his path.

Du Heng looked at the figure in front of him and felt utterly helpless.

”Gu Qinghong, what on earth do you want?” Du Heng looked at Gu Qinghong before him, feeling quite exasperated.

Gu Qinghong looked unhappy but stubbornly said, ”I want to treat you to dinner.”

”Oh, come on, there’s really no need for such formalities.” Hearing Gu Qinghong’s words, Du Heng immediately felt a wave of helplessness wash over him.

”No, I must treat you to dinner to thank you. If it wasn’t for you, I might have been finished.”

”It’s not that serious.” Du Heng took a sidestep, trying to leave.

Gu Qinghong grabbed Du Heng’s arm directly. ”Please, just accept my invitation. I really won’t feel right if I don’t thank you.”

Du Heng quickly withdrew his arm and kept his distance from Gu Qinghong.

If my colleagues see us like this, who knows what kind of gossip will spread, he thought, then said, ”How about we find another time? I have something on today.”

Gu Qinghong sidestepped again, once more blocking Du Heng’s way. ”You have something going on again today? I don’t believe it! Don’t tell me you have a date with your niece today?”

Du Heng helplessly took a step back. ”Someone has invited me to dinner today, and I’ve already agreed. So let’s do it next time, okay? We can arrange a time then.”

Du Heng thought that since he had made things clear, Gu Qinghong would stop pestering him, so he tried to move away.

But Gu Qinghong still stubbornly stood in his way. ”I don’t believe it.”

Du Heng was getting impatient. He stepped to the side and strode off quickly. ”Believe it or not.”

This woman is so annoying!

The dinner that night was perfectly normal, without any of the unexpected incidents Du Heng had braced himself for.

Director Zhang just wanted to thank Du Heng.

The entire meal was spent in a very harmonious atmosphere. The only flaw was that Du Heng didn’t drink, making the other guests feel things were slightly incomplete.

However, Director Zhang didn’t feel that Du Heng was disrespecting him at all and behaved impeccably.

His demeanor was very similar to that of Jinzhou’s Dong Yuezhang, but he was even more smooth and sophisticated.

There was also a significant difference: Director Zhang was only two years older than Dong Yuezhang, yet Dong Yuezhang was merely a Section Chief, a full rank below Director Zhang.

To reach this level, Dong Yuezhang needed at least four more years of hard work in Central Lake.

Astounding!

However, these were just minor interludes and didn’t concern Du Heng much. It was enough to have made an acquaintance. His actual work lay elsewhere.

For the next week, Du Heng’s work returned to its uneventful routine, a seemingly endless cycle of seeing and diagnosing patients.

One day, Du Heng finally finished a busy morning in the outpatient service. Seeing that the waiting area outside was finally empty, he stretched his neck. ”Ah, that feels good.”

After stretching his stiff body, Du Heng went to the Canteen for a quick meal, then hurried back to his office and reclined in his large chair to take a nap.

As he was sleeping soundly, he heard someone calling his name from behind and unwillingly opened his eyes.

”Dr. Cao, what is it?” Seeing it was Cao Binghe, Du Heng lay back down, intending to nap a little longer.

Cao Binghe gave a soft laugh. ”Why don’t you go to the duty dormitory to sleep for a bit? There’s a bed there; it would be more comfortable than this, right?”

”This is fine. No need to take a bed from the night shift staff.” Du Heng shifted slightly. ”If there’s something you need, tell me. Otherwise, I’m going back to sleep.”

”Director Niu called you, but you didn’t answer, so the call went to the nurse station, and they asked me to come and get you.”

”Director Niu?” Du Heng’s mind went blank for a moment.

Director Niu? Who’s that?

It took him a good while to finally realize that the Director Niu Cao Binghe mentioned must be the Director of the hospital’s Nephrology Department.

Du Heng stretched lazily and said, ”So, Director Niu mentioned an eight-year-old child and has requested me for a consultation?”

”An eight-year-old child? With kidney disease?” Du Heng was momentarily stunned. ”What kind of kidney disease could such a young child have? Surely Director Niu is mistaken?”

”I don’t think he’s mistaken,” Cao Binghe said softly. ”They mentioned it’s ’renal medullary carcinoma’.”
