This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

As the old saying goes, men do not easily shed tears, only when they reach a point of heartbreak.

Of course, when emotions are too intense, even a big man might shed tears.

Huang Jufu was like this, standing straight, tears streaming down his face as he alternated glances between his child and wife, and then to Du Heng beside him.

Du Heng smiled, handing the fine needle in his hand to the resident doctor to put it away.

Then he smiled at Director Huang and said, ”Director Huang, let’s go to my office.”

Director Huang let out a breath, looked deeply at Du Heng, ”Today Director Du opened my eyes once again, it was worth the trip.

But I see Director Du is very busy, I won’t disturb Director Du any longer, I’ll head back now, let’s chat later when we have time.”

Du Heng quickly said, ”Director Huang, don’t rush, it’s noon already, let’s have a meal together.”

Director Huang shook his head, ”Better not.

Honestly, when I see Director Du now, my face still feels a bit hot.

Especially thinking about past events, I feel deeply guilty.

Having poor medical skills almost harmed the patient, and then such things happened in my department, I truly have no face to dine with Director Du.”

This time, Director Huang did not hold back, directly stating, ”Director Du, please let me calm down, and wait until I handle things, then provide an explanation to Director Du. Only then will I invite you for a meal.”

Du Heng found himself a bit unable to respond.

He is the type who yields to softness but not hardness. Once others show weakness and soften their attitude, he doesn’t quite know what to do.

And Director Huang wasn’t just being polite, as after finishing speaking, he truly turned around and left, not giving Du Heng a chance to persuade him to stay.

Du Heng watched the resolute departure of Director Huang, ultimately letting out a meaningfully indistinct sound of dissatisfaction.

Bringing Huang Jufu to his office, Du Heng let the couple sit down before saying, ”The child’s hearing issue is now resolved.

I’ll prescribe some medicine for the child, and afterward adjust the child for half a month. As long as the lesser yang gallbladder meridian is clear, this problem will not occur again.”

He looked at Huang Jufu and his wife, ”Regarding what I told you yesterday, do you have no objections?

My suggestion is to return today, the environment you live in, regardless of which aspect, is not suitable for the child’s recovery.”

Huang Jufu was continuously nodding, completely agreeing with whatever Du Heng said.

”Du, I already bought the train tickets, it’s a seven o’clock train tonight.” Huang Jufu glanced back at his wife and then continued to Du Heng, ”My wife will take the child back, I won’t return for now; I have some work here to finish, I’ll go back after that.”

Du Heng was not surprised by Huang Jufu’s arrangement.

After all, the wage gap between the capital and Jinzhou is really shockingly large.

However, Du Heng frowned slightly, ”Train? Hard seat or sleeper? For a regular train, isn’t the travel time a bit long?”

Du Heng glanced at Huang Jufu’s wife beside him, and the child she was holding, intending to say a few more words to Huang Jufu.

But as soon as he opened his mouth, he immediately closed it again, not saying anything.

Over the past few years, with his substantial income increase, he’d almost forgotten how he endured the days of poverty. Whenever he traveled, for comfort and convenience, his travel choices were either high-speed rail or airplanes.

Now, he was imposing his perspective onto others, thinking Huang Jufu should choose a more comfortable travel method, but he overlooked the obvious cost differences among these travel methods.

After all, a high-speed rail ticket from the capital to Jinzhou could cost three to four times more.

Even though Huang Jufu knew he was economizing too much, poor people must be self-aware.

Some expenses must be made, like purchasing medications or conducting check-ups for the child; whatever the doctor advises, he pays. If insufficient, he borrows money to pay.

However, some expenses are truly unnecessary.

A high-speed rail ticket back to Jinzhou is over 700 yuan while the train ticket is only over 200 yuan, directly saving 500 yuan, and the time difference is only ten hours or so.

Spending ten hours seated still, regardless of how this situation is calculated, it isn’t worth it for Huang Jufu.

Thus, even knowing what Du Heng might want to say, he only responded with an awkward smile, pretending not to understand.

Du Heng sighed, ”Forget it, there’s plenty of time, I’ll ask a friend to see if he can get a discounted high-speed rail ticket.”

Feeling both embarrassed and ashamed, but unable to resist the promise of a discounted ticket from Du Heng, Huang Jufu appeared very awkward.

Smiling, but the smile was unnatural.

Opening his mouth to speak, unsure of what to say.

In a few seconds, he vividly displayed the hardships of a poor person, the helplessness of a husband and a father.

Suddenly, at that moment, looking at the troubled and awkward Huang Jufu, Du Heng seemed to see the same look on his big brother’s face from when he paid the tuition fee.

Du Heng suddenly smiled lightly, ”Alright, take your wife to have something to eat. I won’t invite you to lunch today.”

Huang Jufu smiled too, ”How can we always let Du treat us to a meal? It’s time for us to treat you to a meal.”

Du Heng shook his head, ”No, you should use that money to buy some nutritional supplements for the child.”

Huang Jufu quickly said, ”Du, please don’t look down on us. This time you’ve saved us 200,000 yuan, and if we consider the money for future eye treatment, who knows how much more we’ll save.

Just let me treat you once, otherwise, I won’t feel at ease.”

Just as Huang Jufu finished speaking, his wife began to chime in, insisting that they treat Du Heng to a meal.

But Du Heng was resolute in his refusal, ”There’s really no issue of looking up or down on anyone here. What are we? We’re fellow townsmen. How could I possibly have such thoughts?

I really have something to do at noon, I still need to see a patient.

By the way, you mentioned the child’s eye issues, so let me say a few more words.

Don’t worry about the child’s eyes, I’ll prescribe the medicine, and after you take the prescription home, get the medicine accordingly, adjust slowly, and as per my estimate, you should see results in about a month.

Consolidate for two months, and the child won’t face this problem again in the future.”

Speaking, Du Heng put the written prescription in Huang Jufu’s hand, ”Alright, go quickly and have a meal, I still have to call you to arrange the train tickets.”

Then he reminded Huang Jufu to keep his phone on so that he could reach him.

After sending off the reluctant Huang Jufu, Du Heng called in the resident doctor Xiao Bai after he finished his work. He handed over more than 1,000 yuan and gave him Huang Jufu’s phone number.

”Xiao Bai, I need your help with something. Please book a high-speed rail ticket and use the remaining money to buy food.”

”If Master Huang asks, what should I say?” Resident doctor Xiao Bai asked his question.

Du Heng paused for a moment, then said, ”You can tell him a friend of mine got a special price ticket, and he needs to pay an additional one hundred yuan.”

”Should I keep the extra money?” Xiao Bai asked, pursing his lips.

Du Heng nodded directly, ”Yes, of course, just bring it back to me.”

Resident doctor Xiao Bai nodded, ”Got it, Director Du.”

”Thanks for the trouble.”

After wrapping up these matters, Du Heng hurried to the canteen for a meal and then rushed to the Nephrology Department to check on the patient with uremia.

This time, the patient was clear-headed and had been transferred from the emergency room to a regular hospital room.

After a brief inquiry, Du Heng handed over the 30,000 yuan condolence fund that Mr. Ma had brought in the morning, emphasizing that it was a donation from a kind-hearted person from society, Mr. Ma.

Upon arriving at Director Niu’s office, Director Niu spoke casually, ”Director Du, you’re something else.” He gave Du Heng a thumbs-up.

”Last night around eleven, the patient completely woke up, during the night, he went to the toilet three times; still the same, looking black and nothing like normal people’s stool.”

Director Niu elaborated on the patient’s condition, ”Various checks in the morning showed feedback that wasn’t quite right, but the patient appeared lively and spirited.

And, in the morning, he was very hungry, ate a bowl of porridge, six buns, and two eggs.”

Du Heng smiled and said, ”That’s a good thing.”

”So, Director Du, do you think we should use a different medicine or continue with the existing prescription?”

”Don’t change the prescription.” Du Heng said directly, ”The patient’s main issue now is prolonged nephritis, poor excretion leading to water accumulation, poisoned turbidity spreading across the triple burner, deeply entering the blood and flesh.

Yesterday’s medication only cleared up a little, making him feel a bit better, but the fundamental problem hasn’t been resolved.”

Du Heng paused briefly in silence, ”I just checked again and reviewed the examination report. I estimate this prescription needs at least seven more doses, which means a week’s continuous use before considering changing the prescription.

Otherwise, with his current kidney function, if the toxic impurities aren’t expelled promptly, he will definitely relapse, and it would be more severe.”

Director Niu nodded gently, ”Okay, I’ll follow your arrangement, Director Du.”

He then laughed and jokingly said to Du Heng, ”Director Du, you have to pay special attention to this patient, I’m counting on you.”

Du Heng responded with politeness before returning to his office.

Once back in the office, he immediately called Kang Zhirong, intending to ask what was going on, why he just reported without saying anything.

If it’s Kang Zhirong’s problem, then it’s potentially an issue of character, and whether he previously deceived him and Wu Shengnan, he would need to be more guarded.

If it’s not Kang Zhirong’s problem, then he definitely needs to help this young man clear up the matter.

It’s really frustrating!
