This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

”Gulu lu, gu gu gu gu”

Listening to the patient’s stomach growling wildly, everyone just started to react when a foul odor filled the entire hospital room.

Incontinence?!

Du Heng’s heart instantly started to race, and he couldn’t help but start praying in his heart, hoping that what he feared the most hadn’t happened.

If this turned into an uncontrollable release, the patient would be in life-threatening danger.

The nearby nurse reacted the fastest, disregarding her nausea and directly lifted the patient’s blanket, while other nurses and doctors who were a bit farther away quickly found various cleaning tools and started their work.

Du Heng and Director Niu didn’t intervene; they weren’t as professional as the nurses in handling such matters and didn’t want to be more of a hindrance.

However, when the patient’s pants were pulled down, they could see clearly that beneath the patient was a pitch-black mess, and the thicker foul odor began to spread.

Pitch-black?

Du Heng’s eyes brightened instantly and he quickly looked at the urine bag hanging beside the bed.

Yellow, concentrated yellow, almost the color of tea steeped overnight.

The agitation in his heart slightly subsided, and it was only then that Du Heng noticed that the monitor hadn’t sounded the alarming, unsettling alerts, continuing its steady operation as before.

Whew~~~

No problem, no problem, the medicine he prescribed was taking effect, starting to drain the toxic water within the body, without a complete collapse.

Once Du Heng realized this, Director Niu came to the same conclusion. The two exchanged glances, their eyes filled with the relief of a great burden lifted.

”Director Du, will this do?”

”It seems to be effective,” Du Heng nodded lightly as he listened to Director Niu’s inquiry.

Director Niu’s face broke into a small smile, and he looked at Du Heng with even greater admiration, thinking his judgment was quite sound.

Du Heng had not disappointed his trust, nor had he tarnished his own huge reputation.

”Director Du, let’s go sit in my office. There shouldn’t be any more danger here,” Director Niu, noting the gradually hectic scene in the hospital room, preferred not to stay in the unsettling atmosphere.

Although the room’s odor dissipated quickly, the smell was still extremely pungent. Du Heng, too, wanted to leave, but the recent scene startled him. After some thought, he said to Director Niu, ”Director Niu, you go handle your matters first; I’ll just stay here and keep an eye on things.”

Director Niu, seeing Du Heng’s determination, didn’t insist further and was the first to leave the hospital room; he indeed had many tasks to attend to.

Du Heng continued to stay by the patient’s side, keeping a close watch on the changing values on the monitor, and more importantly, every ten minutes or so, he would check the patient’s pulse.

From three in the afternoon until seven in the evening, a total of four hours, Du Heng stayed by the patient’s side without leaving.

Finally, after the second dose of medicine, everyone’s vigilance finally brought a glimmer of hope, the patient regained consciousness!

Du Heng had just breathed a sigh of relief when the long-absent Director Niu appeared again, ”Director Du, I heard the patient woke up?”

Du Heng nodded happily, ”Awake, the danger seems to have passed.”

Seeing Du Heng so relaxed, Director Niu was equally overjoyed.

If nothing unexpected happened with this patient in the future, then the Nephrology Department’s treatment of uremia might open a new chapter.

If this chapter could be successfully opened, both he, the Department, and the Hospital would undergo a tectonic transformation.

The beginning is always the hardest.

Now Du Heng had set a good beginning, what they needed to do was to meticulously collect data, summarize the experience process, and wait for the final outcome.

”Director Du, just as well, the patient’s brother-in-law has arrived and wants to know the specific situation,” Director Niu said excitedly as he led Du Heng outside.

This time Du Heng didn’t refuse, finally assured enough to follow him out, but hearing that the patient’s brother-in-law had arrived, he couldn’t help but ask, ”Don’t they have other relatives?”

Director Niu nodded, ”I’ve talked with the patient’s child, they have quite a few relatives, but the ones who can make decisions are only the child’s uncles.”

With that, Du Heng had no further questions and followed Director Niu to the office.

But Director Niu was so excited that after taking a few steps, he couldn’t help but praise Du Heng, ”Director Du, your skills are truly remarkable.

I couldn’t understand the medicine you prescribed, but the effect is simply miraculous.

Director Du, please tell me, did you use some rare medicine ingredients to achieve such amazing results?”

Du Heng, hearing this, could only shake his head and chuckle.

Today’s prescriptions, where were there any rare medicine ingredients? They were all just a few bucks and some laxatives.

Suddenly, Du Heng recalled a saying, ’Rhubarb saves lives without merit, Ginseng kills without sin.’

Despite many clouded interpretations of this saying, it boils down to one thing: Rhubarb is too cheap, whilst Ginseng, especially one with age, is very expensive, exorbitantly so.

Put simply, when it comes to medicinal ingredients, people tend to ’favor the rich and disdain the poor.’

Just like now, it was clearly rhubarbs, inexpensive laxatives that were effective and saved the patient’s life, but in Director Niu’s eyes, the effective ingredients should be those rare medicines.
