This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Fear!

Confusion!

Worry!

Helplessness!

Panic!

So many emotions on the body of an honest and naive person should evoke sympathy.

But at this moment, in Du Heng’s eyes, such feelings did not arise at all.

Wasting his own efforts was nothing, and letting down the hard work of the hospital staff was nothing either.

But it was his stupidity and pettiness, hidden under his honest exterior, that caused a life that could have been saved to just vanish, which was the most infuriating to him.

His intentions were good; he just wanted to save some money for his recently out-of-danger sister and leave some security for his nephew who lost his legs.

But he didn’t worry at all about his brother-in-law, who had just climbed out of a cliff.

A little stupid and petty thought led to this final outcome.

Perhaps he simply wanted to save money, or perhaps he knew about the outcomes of uremia which led to his thoughts, or maybe...

He didn’t want to think too badly of people, believing that human nature is fundamentally kind.

So Du Heng just glanced lightly at the man constantly rubbing his fingers, and then walked towards the department without looking back.

Just not coming to the hospital, he could treat it as a holiday.

But coming to the hospital, if he didn’t look at those patients of his, he’d always have something he couldn’t let go in his heart.

Especially after the earlier incidents, this feeling in his heart became even stronger.

It was almost time to get off work, and the nurses, busy all day, finally had a rare moment of leisure.

Everyone gathered at the nurse station, those who finished their work waiting for off-duty time, and those with a bit left also chatting with everyone while slowly finishing their work.

Everyone was chatting and laughing, looking relaxed and happy.

However, today was a bit different as everyone held various kinds of fruit in hand, eating with satisfaction.

”Deputy Director Du is here?” The head nurse saw Du Heng first, and greeted him, ”Quickly, get a slice of that freshly cut watermelon for Deputy Director Du.”

As soon as the head nurse spoke, a young nurse ran into the adjacent nurse rest room and brought a large slice of watermelon to Du Heng with a bright smile.

Du Heng’s slightly repressed mood eased in the genuine smiles of these nurses, ”Wow, this is something! All this time, I’ve been the one buying fruit for you to eat, and this is the first time I’m eating something from your nurse station.

Not easy, really not easy.”

A few younger nurses giggled out loud, even teasing Du Heng, ”Deputy Director Du, you earn such a high salary and have side income, you must not be heartbroken over us eating a bit of your fruit, right?”

Hearing the girlish chatter made Du Heng feel better.

He stood to the side of the nurse station, found an unobtrusive spot, took a big bite of the watermelon, and cheerfully said, ”Heartache, never experienced that.

With your appetites, even if you eat freely, how much can you eat?

I’m just happy to see things coming back to me for the first time.”

A few young girls started to laugh, and the head nurse interjected, ”Then Deputy Director Du might be disappointed today.”

Du Heng quickly finished the watermelon in hand and took a napkin from a young nurse to wipe his hands.

Hearing the head nurse’s teasing words, he curiously asked, ”What do you mean by that, head nurse?”

The head nurse smiled and said, ”We owe today’s fruits to you, Deputy Director Du.

If it weren’t for your good medical skills, we wouldn’t have been able to repay kindness generously today either.”

Du Heng laughed upon hearing this.

Relatives of the patient giving nurses and doctors other things, especially red envelopes, is something that cannot be accepted now.

First, there’s everyone’s professional ethics, and second, the hospital’s strict oversight makes it impossible for someone to cross the line.

So giving treats or red envelopes is something rarely seen now.

Especially in the most straightforward doctor-patient relationships, it simply does not happen.

Nowadays, with everyone having a mobile phone capable of broadcasting news, if one becomes a news headline because of such a matter, the price would not be small.

Compared to one’s future and income, it wouldn’t be worth the risk.

If someone really meant well, giving doctors some inexpensive local specialties or just some fruit, everyone can accept and is willing to accept it.

”Who is it?” Du Heng asked curiously.

The head nurse looked at Du Heng and smiled mysteriously, ”The person is in the treatment room now, Dr. Cao is doing a check-up, you can go and see for yourself.”

Du Heng smiled a bit helplessly, showing disdain for the head nurse’s dramatic act.

Discarding the used tissue, Du Heng waved goodbye to these nurses about to get off work and headed towards the treatment room.

As soon as he entered, Du Heng recognized who was inside.

It was none other than Gu Qinghong.

However, since it was Gu Qinghong, her behavior today puzzled Du Heng greatly.

Despite Gu Qinghong’s usual small-mindedness, she never showed any overbearing demeanor.
