This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

But Du Heng knew that deep down, this woman was actually very proud.

During her hospitalization, although she was always polite to the nurses, there was a strong sense of distance in her words and behavior.

Today she came back for a follow-up and even brought some fruit for everyone, which really surprised Du Heng.

On top of that, the woman actually hadn’t called him today, hadn’t pestered him to give her a follow-up treatment, which astonished Du Heng even more.

Could it be that this woman is changing her nature?

Du Heng didn’t interrupt the two of them; he just stood quietly in the back, watching Wu Buwei carry out the treatment. In his Heart he silently thought, if this woman really did change, that would be a wonderful thing.

First of all, her illness was mainly due to her emotions, completely dominated by her temperament, and there was no way to cure it at the root. If her personality really could change, become more open and broad-minded, then her illness wouldn’t be so likely to relapse.

If she kept nourishing and correcting it like this for two or three years, it might actually be eradicated.

Secondly, a change in temperament would definitely affect her emotional state, which would also be very helpful for her subsequent recovery.

Before, it might have taken half a year to fix this last bit of minor problem. But if a real change happened, then maybe it would only take two or three months for her to fully return to normal.

”A smile makes you ten years younger”—this line we often say isn’t just nonsense.

A good mood and an open, cheerful life are not to be underestimated when it comes to physical health.

But the Treatment was already drawing to a close, and not long after, Cao Binghe finished this session. ”Director Du, didn’t you have Things at the School today? How come you’re back again? Something up?”

Du Heng didn’t really want to go into the Nephrology Department business, so he just said softly, ”Director Niu called and asked me to handle something.”

As he spoke, he glanced at Gu Qinghong, who was just getting up. ”The Treatment is all finished?”

Cao Binghe nodded. ”Needles, moxibustion, massage, all done once through.”

”How’s the situation?”

”The Patient herself says the Corner of the eye still feels a bit dry. The Muscle and skin at the Ear Door, every morning when she wakes up, still have brief stiffness and numbness.

As for the other areas, they’ve all recovered very well.

Especially the overall proportions of the facial features—if you don’t look carefully, you basically can’t see any problem.”

Du Heng walked up to Gu Qinghong and carefully examined her facial condition.

Although he had seen Gu Qinghong a few times elsewhere during this period, apart from formal Check-ups, he had basically kept a distance of three or four meters from her.

And Girls all wear makeup these days, of course Gu Qinghong was no exception. Especially now that she wasn’t fully recovered, her makeup had to be even heavier to make herself look a bit prettier.

But because of that, with such thick makeup, it really wasn’t easy to notice any problem from three or four meters away.

Now he had to carefully observe Gu Qinghong’s actual condition.

The result was indeed more or less the same as what Cao Binghe had said, but on closer inspection you could still see that the side of Gu Qinghong’s face that had been ill had an overall contour a bit more sunken than the other side, and the skin was slightly dry, not as delicate as the other side.

But those were details that Du Heng could only see with his face practically pressed to hers.

If you stood a little farther away, and with the cover of cosmetics, other people simply wouldn’t notice anything.

Saying that she had already recovered was still reasonable enough.

”Not bad. Next time you come for a follow-up, you don’t need moxibustion, just needles will do.” As he spoke, Du Heng also looked at Gu Qinghong, who was staring at him expectantly. ”You need to take it seriously yourself too; don’t stop the daily facial massage.

Judging from how your face is recovering, the Master you found for this massage has decent skills; just keep going to him. Stick with it, and in another month or two you’ll be fully recovered.”

Gu Qinghong broke into a happy smile and said sweetly, ”Thanks, Du.”

That ”Du” made Du Heng’s back tighten slightly.

Gu Qinghong was a genuine Southern Girl. Normally she spoke standard Mandarin, and since Du Heng already didn’t have a great impression of this girl, he hadn’t thought much of it.

But now, she suddenly came out with this soft, glutinous Wu accent… it made his bones tingle a bit.

Du Heng chuckled lightly. ”Alright then, let’s leave it at that.

Oh right, thanks for buying fruit for everyone.”

Gu Qinghong’s smile didn’t fade. ”You’re welcome. When I was in the hospital, everyone accommodated me a lot. Buying some fruit to thank everyone is what I should do.”

Du Heng had lived to thirty always circling around the North and the Northwest.

And when Northwest People and Northerners talk, regardless of age or gender, as long as they’re speaking dialect, their tone and pitch are especially hard and solid. Even when they speak Mandarin, although it’s not as rigid as the local dialect, the sense of politeness and distance in it becomes stronger.

So Du Heng had long gotten used to interacting with women in that sort of linguistic environment.

But now, all of a sudden, out of nowhere beside him appeared a soft, sticky, gentle voice with a bit of a Southern accent, and he instantly felt a strange sense of novelty.

No wonder people from the North don’t do so well at studying—Du Heng now vaguely felt he’d found one reason: the environment isn’t good.

On one side of your ear it’s constant Wu accent, on the other side it’s hard, loud voices all day—the feeling is just different.

Du Heng stopped letting his thoughts run wild. He gave Gu Qinghong a small smile and was about to turn and leave the treatment room.

But just then, Gu Qinghong suddenly called out to stop him, wanting to say something but hesitating, while repeatedly glancing at Cao Binghe.

Cao Binghe was someone with tact. As soon as he saw what was going on, he immediately packed up his things and slipped away, without even giving Du Heng a chance to explain.

Watching Cao Binghe’s hurriedly retreating back, Du Heng looked at Gu Qinghong with a bit of helplessness and said, ”Dr. Cao is one of Our People; what are you doing acting like this?

If that gossip ever saw this, who knows what story she’d cook up.

Alright, hurry up and say it—what’s going on?”

Gu Qinghong didn’t care whether Cao Binghe was Du Heng’s own person or not. She only spoke up after seeing him leave. ”The doctor who does massage for me, his family used to practice traditional Chinese medicine.

He told me his family has a piece of rhinoceros horn. He says keeping it himself is useless now and he wants to sell it.

Du, you’re in traditional Chinese medicine; I don’t know if you’d be interested in buying it?”

Du Heng’s Heart skipped a beat.

Rhinoceros horn wasn’t exactly something outrageously expensive.

But this stuff is now classified domestically as something explicitly forbidden to be traded. As for using it, uh… using it openly and aboveboard is even more out of the question.

In the use of Chinese herbal medicine, sometimes buffalo horn can be used as a substitute. If buffalo horn isn’t suitable either, then other medicines are used instead.

Doing it this way is very troublesome, and it raises the difficulty of syndrome differentiation to prescribe medicine by more than one notch.

But the key issue is: can buffalo horn, or any other medicine, really reach the level of rhinoceros horn?

That’s impossible.

If it really could be replaced, then back in ancient times—when transportation, communication, and trade were all underdeveloped—they’d have long since replaced the hard-to-obtain rhinoceros horn. How could it have been left until now?

Someone might say that Technology has advanced now, testing methods are more sophisticated, so the secret of a substitute was only discovered recently.

That’s pure nonsense.

Bear in mind, with current testing methods, the components of Ginseng and Radish are about the same—can you use Radish to replace Ginseng?

Find the person who said that; Du Heng would dare to eat a jin of Radish in one go—would that person dare to eat a jin of Ginseng in one go?

If he dared, Du Heng would definitely be willing to pay to buy it for him.

Also, if you’re only looking at components, then the components of rhinoceros horn are similar to horse hooves, cow hooves, even human fingernails. Can you use those things as substitutes?

So, as soon as Du Heng heard there was a piece of rhinoceros horn—no matter how big—for a pure TCM, not being tempted was impossible.
