Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

The sky was very blue, and the Sun was somewhat large.

The air was a bit thin, but within the thin air, there was a comfortable aura.

Taking several deep breaths, Ashiya finally realized that the air here was indeed much cleaner than in Africa—it was a cleanliness missing the foul stench of Demonic Qi.

Clouds were drifting just a short distance above, and occasionally some large mutant beasts would appear in the sky, darting through the clouds, with some even briefly pausing above certain buildings in the city, glaring fiercely at the pedestrians below scurrying like Ants in the streets.

However, Ashiya didn’t feel any hostility, and even if there was, it wasn’t directed at the humans below but at the occasional flying Demon Fiends that appeared in the air.

”Move quickly, don’t block the way!”

Fluent Cathay speech sounded beside Ashiya as a Cathay soldier in uniform gently nudged her, urging her to move a bit faster.

Although Ashiya didn’t understand what was being said, body language is universal.

Ashiya quickly stepped forward, following the winding line ahead which was like a dragon, no longer able to admire the spectacular scenery of the Eternal Sky City.

With only tens of teleportation array formations in the Eternal Sky City, such numbers are really too few when spread across the vast Earth, especially during this current period of great war. Africa has already fallen into endless flames of war with countless refugees! Even Ashiya’s ’master’ was trapped on the African battlefield, unable to extricate himself. While she stopped to admire the wonders of the Eternal Sky City, the vast crowd of refugees behind her was stuck near the teleportation array, with occasional trampling incidents occurring in the pushing and shoving crowd.

There were too many refugees and too few military personnel from Cathay. Thinking of this made Ashiya sigh softly.

Since most of these refugees came from the African Continent.

The fiercer the flames of war burned, the more miserable the ordinary people became...

...

”Name.”

”Ashiya.”

A woman of African descent in a Cathay military uniform took notes swiftly for the census. Then she lifted her head, slightly raised her chin, and nodded toward the infant in Ashiya’s arms.

”And this one?”

”Friday.”

The baby in her arms let out a cry but quickly calmed down under Ashiya’s skillful handling.

”Your relationship.”

”Wet nurse... I am this child’s wet nurse. His mother has died, and his father entrusted him to me.”

The recorder hesitated for a moment with her pen, sighed lightly, and slowly put the pen down, glancing at the little one in Ashiya’s arms, her slender figure, and pretty face.

”Below, in Yanjing Assembly Site beneath the Eternal Sky City, there is an orphanage established by the military with fairly decent conditions.”

Upon hearing the well-intentioned suggestion, Ashiya just shook her head.

The kind-hearted recorder added another comment.

”You two... sigh... housing in the Eternal Sky City is out of the question for you, and neither the inner city zone nor the outer city zone below can accommodate you. You can only go to the slums, but the security issues in the slums... If you send the child to a welfare home and find yourself a job in the outer city zone, you can live safely.”

The development and prosperity of humans need order, morals, and a semblance of fairness, which the Yanjing Assembly Site does well. It’s even on the right track. However, a Level 1 woman with a newborn not even a month old—no matter how capable Lin Haifeng is, it’s impossible to eliminate all kinds of unfair and unfriendly issues.

Let alone the newly expanded slums specifically used to gather those without ability, characteristics, or value, the so-called ”three noes” refugees.

Upon hearing the recorder’s words, Ashiya’s lips curled into a slight smile, but she only said thank you and fell silent.

The recorder didn’t say anything else, just quickly jotted down Ashiya’s and Friday’s personal information, then pointed behind her.

”Go ahead, there will be someone to lead you to the temporary residence area, where you’ll undergo a health check and have three days of observation and adaptation. They will teach you some rules of Yanjing Assembly Site. Don’t worry, it’s all official and very safe.”

After saying that, the recorder handed Ashiya a plastic card, along with a note.

”This is my contact number. There are public telephones all over Yanjing. They’re free, so if you encounter any issues, you can come to me.”

This time, Ashiya was genuinely surprised.

Seeing the look on Ashiya’s face, the African woman shrugged and flashed a bright smile: ”It’s not easy for anyone to be alive now. If one person can help another, within their power, they should. You’ll find it difficult bringing up a child alone. Moreover, we’re from the same hometown, and...”

The black woman glanced at Friday in Ashiya’s arms.

”I really love children.”

...

Walking past the registration area and following behind an officer and the refugee group numbering in the hundreds, Ashiya held Friday and admired the finely crafted and majestic structures of the Eternal Sky City, yet her heart was filled with unease.

Part of it was a clueless fear of what lay ahead, part was concern for Ray, her ’master’ in name but like an elder brother to her, and another part...

Was the path Ray had arranged for Friday and herself.
