Dimensional Codex System: I'm really not a cultist!

Chapter 775: Chapter 774: Learning Medicine Can’t Save People, But It Can Save...

When Fang Zheng returned to the base with the ”Spoils of War,” almost everyone there was at a loss for words.

”Brother Fang Zheng... we’re here to rescue people... right?”

Tina helplessly gazed at the zombie Fang Zheng was shouldering and didn’t know what to say. Fang Zheng had said when he built the base that it was to save survivors, but apart from Kei Shidou, why were both of the ones he brought back zombies!

”This is quite interesting; let me study it a bit.”

Fang Zheng casually tossed the female zombie onto the ground and then called out to Kei Shidou.

”Come over and see if you recognize her.”

”Eh?”

Upon hearing Fang Zheng’s question, Kei Shidou finally noticed that the girl was wearing the same school uniform as her, and was shocked. She hurriedly rushed forward to take a closer look but soon shook her head.

”No... I don’t know her... Sorry, Mr. Fang Zheng.”

”It’s nothing.”

Fang Zheng wasn’t surprised by this outcome. After all, with so many people in a school, most could barely remember all the names of their own classmates, let alone those from other classes. So it wasn’t strange that Kei Shidou didn’t know this girl. He didn’t dwell on it and quickly issued an order.

”Natsuse, take her to Lab 2, I’m going to research some things... Miss Rea, come with me.”

”Ah, alright, Mr. Fang Zheng.”

Rea was a bit taken aback at Fang Zheng’s words, then nodded. After that, Fang Zheng led her into what had been transformed into ”Lab 1,” the station master’s office.

”Just sit anywhere, I’ll call you in a bit.”

After dropping this line, Fang Zheng immediately opened his personal terminal and started studying the sample he had obtained from the DJ Zombie. And as he looked, his expression grew increasingly solemn.

”Just as I thought...”

Viewing the virus sample before him, Fang Zheng’s face became serious. In fact, he had felt a very familiar sensation upon seeing the DJ Zombie. Although the DJ Zombie’s tactics were naive, it knew how to lay ambushes, stay concealed, and even control other zombies to attack enemies. This reminded Fang Zheng of the Zerg. The analysis results also proved Fang Zheng’s guess—within the DJ Zombie’s sample, he found a unique substance capable of releasing a certain signal. Not only that, when Fang Zheng compared it with other samples he had previously collected, he discovered that all zombies—including the basic ones as well as WITCH, TANK, etc.—possessed components to receive this signal!

Previously, when Fang Zheng had studied alone, he hadn’t paid special attention to this substance because it seemed like a mere appendix at the time, but now, comparing it with the DJ Zombie’s brain sample, he immediately spotted the issue.

If these things had evolved naturally, it would have been understandable, but if all samples possessed this ”Receiving Terminal,” then it would confirm something—the virus had this function from the very beginning!

This also explained why zombies didn’t attack each other and why only Mutant Zombies could launch attacks on basic zombies.

After all this time, this was how the world worked...

Fang Zheng was now somewhat clear on the rules of this world. The biochemical virus would infect all life on Earth, making it ”transform” into zombies. Then, those with unique potential would evolve from a secondary to tertiary level, and, of course, there might be some special factor causing some zombies, like the DJ Zombie, to transform into a controlling core zombie that can manage other inferior zombies. He then thought that there might be even more advanced zombie leaders...

Hmm? Why do you ask if Fang Zheng is so familiar with these rules? Because he himself is the Zerg Overlord. If you were to replace the various zombies with Zerg units and the DJ Zombie with the King Worm, this would essentially be the same development pattern as the Zerg!

As for why Rea wasn’t affected, after Fang Zheng’s examination, he found that her ”Receiving Port” had degenerated to almost no use, about as useful as an appendix. Of course, maybe due to the influence of her other half of human genes, Rea didn’t ”evolve” a ”Signal Emitting Port.”

As for the female zombie Fang Zheng had captured, who closely resembled Rishi, her body composition was even more interesting. Besides human and the biochemical virus components, Fang Zheng found an artificial substance within Rishi that suppressed the further erosion of the virus in the zombie girl, allowing her to retain the ability to speak.

This was indeed interesting.

Stroking his chin, Fang Zheng narrowed his eyes, looking at the analysis chart in front of him. Although Kei Shidou claimed the crisis happened suddenly, it clearly hadn’t been so—like how the substance injected into the zombie girl was clearly designed specifically against Virus X: while not able to eradicate it completely, the fact that it could function to suppress the virus demonstrated that the drug was effective.

So that brings us to the question: did this virus come from outer space, or is it like in Resident Evil, manufactured by the Umbrella Corporation?

But no matter its origin, it’s clear that the humans in this world have been aware of it for some time now, otherwise, they couldn’t have developed a drug to suppress it.

Of course, the drug does have some effect, but it’s obviously not enough. Right now, in Fang Zheng’s view, the zombie girl’s body is essentially a mix of virus, medicine, and human—three parts sharing power, with the virus being Wei and the combined medicine and humanity being akin to a post-Zhuge Liang and Sun Quan Wu-Shu alliance—it’s inevitable that they’ll lose sooner or later.

To describe it in four words—it’s just a matter of time.

Expecting another Battle of Red Cliffs is probably impossible.

As for what comes next...

”Miss Rea, come over and let’s draw some blood.”

After analyzing the sample, Fang Zheng motioned to Rea, who was obediently sitting on the couch. Hearing Fang Zheng’s words, Rea couldn’t help but tremble slightly.

”That... Mr. Fang Zheng...”

”What’s up? It’s just a blood draw, haven’t you been through a medical exam?”

”This... of course I have, but...”

”But what?”

”But... that thing in your hand...”

As she spoke, Rea timidly gazed at the syringe in Fang Zheng’s hand—it was as thick as her arm. Is that even for human use?! With one draw, would 1000ml of blood vanish in an instant?

Although Rea was now a zombie and thus not afraid of bleeding to death, the prospect of such a large, thick object entering her body was still something that required a bit of courage for a young girl...

”Oh? This?”

Looking at the syringe in his hand, Fang Zheng chuckled.

It had only occurred to Fang Zheng when he saw Rea that she was a perfect host who had successfully suppressed the Virus X. This meant that there must be antibodies in Rea’s body, and what intrigued Fang Zheng was the idea that if he could extract these antibodies and inject them into the zombie girl, perhaps she could be cured?

If that were the case, things would certainly get interesting!

Of course, as for why he chose such a large syringe... Fang Zheng explained that drawing a bit more couldn’t hurt—it’s better to have it and not need it.

”Besides, you can’t die, can you?”

”...Please be gentle.”

”Don’t worry, it’ll only hurt at the beginning.”

”................”

What else could Rea say?

She could only accept the treatment.
