Dimensional Codex System: I'm really not a cultist!

Chapter 772: Chapter 771: Young Ladies These Days Are Quite Dangerous

Logically, zombies should not appear at dusk. However, the situation at hand was clearly different when Fang Zheng, along with Little Hei and Rea, arrived at the Red Brick Warehouse, which was already crowded with... zombies.

”What’s going on here? Is the supermarket next door selling chips at half price? Or is there some store street discount preparation?”

Looking at the zombies crowded on the street, Fang Zheng was also dumbfounded for a moment, not knowing what to say. Although the sun had not completely set, for a city full of tall buildings, the streets were almost entirely covered by the shadows of high rises, so it wouldn’t pose any problem for the zombies to move around.

But the problem was that these zombies were now crowding forward as if there really was some major store discount event, cramming the entire street.

”I... I think I heard something.”

At that moment, Rea furrowed her brow and spoke softly.

”It sounds like... music?”

”Music? Someone is playing music? That’s not strange, is it?”

Fang Zheng listened closely, and amidst the intermittent roaring of the zombies, he did indeed hear faint music, sounding like some pop song. As Fang Zheng concentrated his attention, he soon clearly heard the music coming from a building in front of them.

”It sounds like something from Morning Musume... Could it be that a zombie accidentally hit the music player’s switch?”

Earlier during recon, Tina had already confirmed through detectors that there were no living humans in this area. Thinking about it carefully, it made more sense that a zombie may have accidentally turned on a music player. But... Fang Zheng felt that something was off, considering the sheer number of zombies gathered here. Zombies indeed have sharper hearing than humans, but not to the extent that they could hear from so far away; logically, they shouldn’t have attracted zombies from an entire block.

Moreover, according to Rea, it was as if these zombies were summoned...

”What should we do now, big brother?”

”Although plowing straight through them is also a good method, it’s too time-consuming, not to mention there’s no experience gain from these small fries...”

While saying this, Fang Zheng glanced around and then pointed to a nearby rooftop.

”Let’s stealth over there and see what exactly is going on.”

For Fang Zheng and Little Hei, scaling walls and climbing roofs were a piece of cake. However, for Rea, it was not so simple. Despite being a zombie with superhuman speed, jumping, and strength, the well-raised young lady had probably never climbed a wall, let alone moved tiles on a roof.

Still, Rea seemed quite excited, hopping and jumping on the rooftop, and having the time of her life. It seemed the young lady was stifled badly, rarely getting a chance to let loose without having to worry about other people’s looks, so she started to enjoy herself.

Fang Zheng and Little Hei didn’t mind. After all, Rea was a zombie now. Even if she accidentally fell down, she wouldn’t die; even if she fell into a group of zombies, she wouldn’t be bitten, so there was basically no danger. Not to mention that the young lady was proficient in Western swordsmanship; combined with her immense strength, dealing with a handful of zombies was no pressure at all.

However, Fang Zheng had wanted to tease that when he first learned that Rea knew swordsmanship, it didn’t occur to him that Japanese young ladies all fancy practicing swordsmanship, probably to prepare themselves for someday dramatically dealing with mistresses or chopping off a lover’s head?

With that thought... wait a moment, Kurumi also comes from a young lady background? Oh right, Sonozaki Shion and Sonozaki Mion, whom he met in Higurashi World, also sort of count as young ladies...

My god, are Japanese young ladies really that dangerous?!

But thinking it over more carefully, Fang Zheng also realized that Japanese young ladies and what he imagined were probably not the same thing. Unlike China’s description of young ladies often using words like ”well-cultured”, ”knowledgeable and reasonable”, ”smart and clever”, the most common description in Japan for young ladies was ”excel in both the literary and military arts.”

Of course, most of the time, this term is basically ignored by the audience since those anime young ladies are generally gentler than others, cuter than others, more air-headed than others, looking totally harmless, obedient, and like they could be tricked home with just a lollipop.

But in fact, once you get to know them, you’ll find out all of this is just a disguise! They’re absolutely uncompromising when they start moving!

Not to mention some who wiped out their rivals—Fang Zheng clearly remembered watching an anime called ”Nogizaka Haruka’s Secret” where the main character Haruka was described as ”excel in both the literary and military arts.” She looked like an introverted, self-absorbed homebody, but during a moment when the Judo Club president hit on her, she straight-up threw him ten meters away with an over-the-shoulder throw...

Tsk tsk tsk, if China’s young ladies were all this capable, then there probably wouldn’t be any more heroic rescue scenes.

While all sorts of random thoughts were spinning in his head, Fang Zheng tiptoed onto the third-floor balcony, and then directly opened the tightly closed door and walked in. The closer he got to the destination, the clearer the surrounding music became, and Fang Zheng indeed sensed that hidden within the song was a strange frequency... Although the song sounded normal, it somehow felt oddly peculiar to him.

”Mr. Fang Zheng...”

Just at that moment, Rea also climbed through the window and entered, her brow furrowed, showing an expression mixed with confusion.

”This song, I feel something strange about it...”

”Strange? What’s strange?”

Fang Zheng concentrated his mind and listened to the song again, then shook his head.

”The lyrics are pretty normal, all about love, love, love... What’s strange about that?”

”No, I don’t mean that...”

Confronted with Fang Zheng’s question, Rea seemed for a moment unsure of how to respond. Although she had regained consciousness, perhaps because she had hit her head just before death, some brain damage caused her descriptions to sometimes lack clarity.

”...I mean... this song... seems to be hiding some information, at least that’s how I feel...”

”Hmm... There indeed is a strange frequency mixed in, but...”

Upon hearing Rea’s response, Fang Zheng also sensed a strange frequency in the accompaniment of the song, which, strictly speaking, felt like someone was knocking on a door using Morse code. Those who understood would naturally comprehend, while those who didn’t would simply take it as a regular knocking sound, at most finding the rhythm a bit odd.

”... Can you understand it?”

Fang Zheng did not really think that modern young ladies skilled in both literary and martial arts would also decode secret messages.

”I... I have a feeling that I can understand it.”

”Anyway, why don’t we just go and see?”

Just then, Little Hei, who was bringing up the rear, flipped into the room and quickly offered his opinion, and Fang Zheng, having nothing particular to say, shrugged his shoulders and proceeded down the corridor.

Guided by the sound of music, they reached the source without much effort, but when they opened the door, they were shocked to discover a group of... zombies.

Precisely, a group of zombies that looked like some ghastly teenagers.

The zombies, their hair dyed in various colors and clothes tattered and torn, swayed dance-like to the music in the hall; if not for the severed limbs and bloodstains on their bodies, one might have believed it was a Halloween rave party.

Yet what shocked them even more lay ahead.

”......”

As Fang Zheng and Little Hei entered the hall, the music that had been playing suddenly stopped, and then, a figure dressed like a DJ at the front fiercely turned his head to glare at him.

”Roar......”

He opened his mouth, emitting a deep growl, and at the same time, those non-mainstream, ecstasy-high ghosts also turned their heads uniformly to look at Fang Zheng and others, opening their gaping maws.

”Roar.........!!”

Just then, the DJ zombie waved his arms again, letting out a furious roar. It seemed like he was trying to communicate with Fang Zheng, but unfortunately... Fang Zheng did not understand zombie language.

But soon, he didn’t need to understand.

”Aoow——!!”

The moment the DJ zombie roared, the other zombies in the hall immediately lunged toward the three of them!
