Dimensional Codex System: I'm really not a cultist!

Chapter 754: Chapter 753: Strange Zombie World

The battle was over in less than ten minutes, and when Fang Zheng put down his weapon, not a single standing zombie could be seen in front of everyone.

”What the hell is going on?”

Natsuse looked around in shock and disbelief, while Midori and Tina also shook their heads. However, Little Hei did have an answer.

”These should be zombies, right?”

”Zombies?”

”Huh? You don’t know?”

Seeing the puzzled expressions on the faces of the girls in front of her, Little Hei widened her eyes in surprise.

”They often appear in movies, you know, humans get infected by some strange virus or parasite, and then they turn into bloodthirsty creatures. The people they bite will also turn into zombies and stuff...”

”In their world, it’s strictly forbidden to spread such works.”

Fang Zheng shook his head. Due to the peculiar nature of the Pitch Black World, any film or television works related to biological viruses were strictly banned from being broadcast. When you thought about it, it made sense. Humans were already cornered into shelters, barely surviving against the creatures transformed by the Intestinal Virus, and then you broadcast movies about a virus that could turn people into zombies inside these shelters... did you even want people to have a good life?

”..........Ah.”

Upon hearing this, Little Hei remembered the background information about the Pitch Black World that Fang Zheng had shared with her and others and stuck out her tongue a bit. Meanwhile, Natsuse quietly watched the corpses in front of her and murmured softly.

”So... did these people become like this because they were infected with the virus, just like us?”

”It’s not quite at the level of the Intestinal Virus, but it’s similar.”

”I always feel... a bit envious of them.”

Tina also walked over, speaking softly with a touch of lament. Hearing Tina’s comment startled Little Hei, who widened her eyes in surprise.

”Envious?”

”Yes, to die while still retaining the appearance of a human, isn’t that a happy thing? Although they may have mutated due to the virus infection, they still retain their human form, right?”

”Uh... well...”

Faced with Tina’s unexpected response, Little Hei didn’t know what to say for a moment. Fang Zheng just smiled helplessly. While on the surface the children of the Pitch Black World seemed no different from ordinary kids, at times like this, the differences became apparent.

For Little Hei, perhaps being infected with a bioweapon virus was tragic enough, but for those like Natsuse, the Cursed Children, who had been infected with the Intestinal Virus from birth and had been living on, being infected wasn’t particularly tragic. What they feared was transforming into the horrific Intestinal Creatures. It was for this reason that, to the Cursed Children, humans of this world turning into zombies after being infected didn’t seem tragic but even somewhat enviable...

This was the difference in values.

With a wry smile, Fang Zheng walked over to one of the corpses and opened his personal terminal to begin scanning and analyzing it. Soon, beams shot from the personal terminal onto the corpse, examining its structure and cells.

”Immune system dysfunction, extensive necrotic tissue inside the body, mutated brain symptoms... preliminary determination is a D-class viral entity...”

The viral classification in Fang Zheng’s personal terminal was based on samples provided by the Zerg. Those viruses that maintained self-awareness, could perfectly invade, infect, and dissolve their hosts were classified as A-level. Viruses like the Intestinal Virus that had a one-hundred-percent mutation rate in the host while still retaining a degree of safety were B-level. As for D-level... well, it was like what was right in front of him.

No benefits and many drawbacks.

Of course, perhaps to the Cursed Children, maintaining a human form after infection could be considered an ”advantage.”

After analyzing the zombies in front of him, Fang Zheng also grasped their characteristics.

First, they belonged to living organisms, meaning from a biological standpoint, these zombies were still alive. However, their brains had been severely damaged, virtually losing the ability to distinguish friend from foe or to analyze and think. In addition, Fang Zheng found that these zombies contained a metabolic substance in their bodies that was highly sensitive to light sources, which meant if the zombies were exposed to light for an extended period, their skin would rot, collapse, and even lead to death.

”It feels like the zombies in this world are quite similar to ghouls.”

```
Looking at the data displayed on the terminal before him, Fang Zheng couldn’t help but mutter to himself. Both the analysis results and their appearance suggested that these zombies closely resembled lowly beings transformed by vampire bites. Aversion to light, fear of fire, great strength, slow reactions, infectious, needing blood to sustain activity...
”So, Brother, what you’re saying is, there are vampires in this world now?”
At this, Little Hei immediately became excited, but Fang Zheng shook his head.
”No, I am just saying they’re like vampires, but it seems that this world probably doesn’t have creatures like vampires, and even if there are any, they likely have nothing to do with the vampires of myth and legend.”
Fang Zheng had seen real vampires in the world of the Royal National Church Knights, as well as man-made ghouls. They were the epitome of professionalism, daring to roam about with riot shields and burst guns in broad daylight while dressed in bomb suits and wearing gas masks—far superior to these beings.
”Brother Fang Zheng!”
Just then, Natsuse’s voice suddenly rang in Fang Zheng’s ear.
”I’ve detected a communication signal!”
”Oh?”
Upon hearing this, Fang Zheng quickly stood up and went to Natsuse’s side, looking at her personal terminal, while Natsuse immediately turned up the volume. Soon, everyone heard a garbled voice coming from it.
”...I am... can you hear... save...”
The voice was very unclear, making it difficult to distinguish between a man or a woman, and the interference was quite severe; even Fang Zheng and the others could only vaguely make out a few words amid the ”shshsh” of static.
”Can’t you adjust it to be clearer?”
”The captured data stream is very complete, but perhaps the other party’s communication equipment has a problem, causing the information to be incompletely transmitted when entered...”
”Where’s the signal coming from?”
”Here!”
Natsuse extended her hand, pointing to the map on the personal terminal in front of her.
”Yokohama Station North Station master’s office!”
”Let’s set out immediately for Yokohama Station!”
Fang Zheng swiftly issued the command. Although they didn’t know whether the person calling for help was still alive, this was the first clue they had come across since arriving in this world, and naturally, they couldn’t let it slip by. Of course, if it were just an ordinary team composed of people, they might hesitate in facing such a situation, but for Fang Zheng and his companions... this was not a problem at all.
To avoid being entangled by the zombies again, this time Fang Zheng and the others chose not to go on the ground, but rather opted for the shortest distance between two points—a straight line.
”Whoosh——!”
In the darkness of the city under the night sky, Fang Zheng took a leap and landed on the glass wall of a high-rise building. At the same time, a shadow suddenly slammed against the other side of the glass wall with an explosive sound and reached out frantically towards its prey. But in the next moment, Fang Zheng’s right foot fiercely stomped on the glass wall; with the glass shattering and the whistling of the wind, he shot out like an arrow released from the bow, passing through the street in the blink of an eye.
”Brother Fang, it’s right ahead!”
At the same time, Tina, flying alongside Fang Zheng and manipulating the variable wing system, reported to him swiftly. Soon, a station appeared before Fang Zheng’s eyes. Like the other buildings, its interior was extremely dim, with only a faint light here and there outside the corridors and the station, everything else cloaked in darkness.
However, through their terminals, everyone could see that the life signals of the bloodthirsty creatures hidden in the darkness of the night were densely packed throughout the entire station. Unlike the zombies that Fang Zheng and the others had previously encountered, which were playing dead, these zombies were wandering all over, and their target was... all too obvious.
Seeing this scene, Fang Zheng decisively gave an order.
”Little Hei, Natsuse, you come with me to get rid of these annoying guys. Midori, you and Tina head to find the survivors!”
”Yes!”
