Dimensional Codex System: I'm really not a cultist!

Chapter 768: Chapter 767: The Origins of Sanhua Rea (Part 2)

”Whew... whew...”

The sound of crying came from the stair classroom at the end of the hallway, echoing throughout the deserted old school building, adding a few touches of a ghost story atmosphere.

”This really feels like one of the Seven Wonders...”

While quietly approaching the stair classroom, Little Hei didn’t forget to comment on the situation.

”The crying sound in the empty classroom! Every twilight, in the deserted stair classroom, the sound of a girl’s crying can be heard... Hmm, this would make a great theme for a horror movie!”

”And then, after a scientific investigation, it is discovered that the crying sound in the classroom is due to a crack in the window. When the temperature drops every evening, the difference in temperature between inside and outside creates a wind. The wind blowing through the crack creates a sound, which sounds like sobbing... right?”

”What is this?”

Upon hearing Fang Zheng’s sarcastic remark, Little Hei pouted in dissatisfaction.

”Big brother, by saying that, you’ve completely ruined the horror vibe!”

”Of course, I’d rather film a science documentary than a horror movie...”

As he spoke, Fang Zheng approached the door, then he reached out and pulled open the door of the stair classroom.

”Whew whew whew!”

Soon, a clearer sound of crying came from inside; looking in the direction of the sound, they saw a girl with black hair and wearing a white sailor suit, turned away from them, her shoulders shaking incessantly, seemingly crying her heart out.

If this were an ordinary situation, the first instinct would be to go over and ask what happened. But now, in this post-apocalyptic world, in a long-abandoned school classroom, it wasn’t that simple.

”I say, miss...”

As he stepped forward, Fang Zheng waved his hand and spoke. However, the girl didn’t stop crying; on the contrary, she cried even harder.

”Whew whew whew...!!”

Was she dumped by a man or what?

As he watched the suffering girl’s back, Fang Zheng couldn’t help but roll his eyes. He then reached out and patted her shoulder.

”I say, miss...”

But before Fang Zheng could finish his sentence, the girl who had been sitting on the ground suddenly stood up, turned her head, opened her mouth, and let out a shrill scream at Fang Zheng.

”Ahhhhh!”

”Damn it!”

And at that moment, Fang Zheng finally saw the ”girl’s” face clearly and yelled out loud.

Beneath the head of black hair was a face with atrophied muscles, resembling a sun-dried tomato. Her mouth was abyssal black, her sharp yellow teeth even visible. Her eyes shone with a red light, and the nails on both of her hands were as sharp as daggers.

This was truly a case of ”expecting to commit a crime from the back, but wanting to defend oneself from the front”!

”Get lost!”

Fang Zheng reacted quickly, instinctively throwing a punch the moment he saw the creature, hitting the mutant zombie squarely in the face and sending it flying. Before the poor mutant zombie could even show off its ferocity, it was slammed into a distant wall by Fang Zheng’s punch and turned into a splatter of flesh with a ”bang”.

”What happened, big brother?”

At this time, Little Hei also walked over in surprise, looking curiously at the mutant zombie whose head had been blown to bits by Fang Zheng.

”Isn’t this the zombie-type girl JK you wanted?”

”No choice, we can only say that reality and ideals indeed differ.”

Facing Little Hei’s teasing, Fang Zheng sighed helplessly. Although she was indeed a zombie-type girl JK, her skin was wrinkly and dehydrated, her entire face rotting and swollen... When you think about it, it’s only natural! After all, it’s summer, and zombies are essentially corpses. It’s normal for them to rot and spoil in high temperatures!

If Rea is an SSR, then this one is simply an N-card!

”Then why don’t you, big brother, use your Time Ability to turn her back into how she was before?”

”Even if she reverts to her previous form, she’ll just be a wailing zombie. I have no interest in that, and it’s a waste of my ability.”

Upon hearing Little Hei’s suggestion, Fang Zheng helplessly rolled his eyes. His Time Control ability had strengthened, but it was still limited.

In fact, neither Fang Zheng’s Time Ability nor Kurumi’s Fourth Bullet could truly resurrect the dead. They could restore a person’s body to its state before death, but they could not bring back their life. In this sense, both their Time Abilities effectively acted on the ”object” itself. This was why Fang Zheng could repair Rea’s neck but could not bring her back to life. His Time Retrospection affected the ”broken neck” itself and did not involve an overall reversal of time.

Therefore, even if Fang Zheng restored this ”WITCH” to her pre-death state, she would remain nothing more than a crying zombie that attacks anyone on sight.

”Alright, you stay and watch over Rea. I’ll go check the staff room to see if I can find some clues.”

After taking down the Mutant Zombie, Fang Zheng casually collected a sample from her and then turned to leave the staircase classroom, heading towards the staff room. Little Hei just shrugged her shoulders and then turned back into the classroom. At that moment, Rea was still sitting motionless in the classroom.

”Hah...”

Looking at Rea sitting there dazed, Little Hei sighed with resignation, then sat down on the chair next to her, resting her chin in her hands and turning her head to look around.

”What an eerily quiet school...”

”......”

It was at this time that Little Hei saw Rea slowly turn her head towards her.

”Hmm? What is it, Zombie Sister?”

”....During class....do not....talk....”

”..........”

While Little Hei and Rea were at an impasse in the silent classroom, Fang Zheng had found Rea’s records in the blood-splattered staff room.

”Sanhua Rea... Yeah, definitely a Young Lady, I knew there was something odd about this school’s name; it turns out to be owned by her family...”

Looking at the documents in his hands, Fang Zheng nodded. As he had guessed, he found both Sanhua Rea’s personal file and her family’s address here. Besides, Fang Zheng learned from the teacher’s comments what the Young Lady had been like when she was alive—approachable, kind, academically excellent, and elegant in manner, almost the stereotype of a perfect Young Lady...

Though now she was just a zombie.

”Alright, so next... Huh?”

Just as Fang Zheng was about to casually take the documents with him, he suddenly noticed a sealed box underneath a drawer. Driven by curiosity, Fang Zheng reached out, opened the box, and then...

”Wow, this teacher knew how to have fun.”

Looking at the various voyeuristic photos of girls in sailor uniforms and mini skirts as well as in athletic shorts, Fang Zheng couldn’t help but whistle. He hadn’t expected to come across such a find while searching for information... Tsk tsk tsk, seems like this teacher was no good guy. To be fair, Fang Zheng could somewhat understand him...

However...

”This is evidence of a crime, after all. It can’t be allowed to disappear into the annals of history. As a Paladin, I have the duty to preserve this evidence and let justice see the light of day!

Justice may be delayed, but it’s never absent!”

With that thought, Fang Zheng unhesitatingly placed the photos back into the envelope, then slipped it into his inner pocket.

After all, having made it to this world, it was only right to take some souvenirs back, wasn’t it?

When Fang Zheng returned to the classroom, Little Hei was idly sitting on the desk. Upon seeing Fang Zheng enter, her eyes lit up, and she hastily stood up and waved to him.

”Big Brother! You’re back, how did it go?”

”I’ve found Rea’s address, and I also collected some nice things on the side.”

As he spoke, Fang Zheng waved the folder in his hand.

”Next, we’ll go take a look at Rea’s house...”

”Crash!”

But Fang Zheng hadn’t expected that as soon as he said this, Rea, who had been sitting still the whole time, suddenly stood up so abruptly that even the chair she was sitting on toppled over. Not only that, Fang Zheng noticed that Rea’s body seemed to be trembling slightly...

Could it be... she was afraid?
