Dimensional Codex System: I'm really not a cultist!

Chapter 771: Chapter 770 Mysterious Gathering

When Fang Zheng and Little Hei returned to the base with Rea, who had regained consciousness, everyone was extremely curious about her, especially after hearing that this Miss Zombie didn’t eat meat, but was a vegetarian instead, everyone wore expressions of... disbelief.

”I never imagined I’d see a zombie eating leaves...”

Keiichi looked on with a complex expression at the obedient Rea sitting beside him, chewing on leaves, not knowing what to say, while Little Hei patted her shoulder with a cheeky smile.

”Regardless, this is a good thing, isn’t it?” frёewebnoѵēl.com

”But, is it really okay to just eat leaves?”

”Of course, it’s not completely without problems.”

Hearing Keiichi’s question, Fang Zheng, who was examining Rea, looked up and replied.

”I did a simple analysis just now and found that the leaves of the hydrangea mainly stimulate her nerves, which activates her brain and keeps her conscious clear. But besides that, she also needs to eat food for nutrients. Strictly speaking... Miss Rea is currently in a ’half-dead’ state. If she consumes food, she will move closer to being ’alive’, but if she doesn’t get enough food and hydrangea leaves, she will lean towards being ’dead’... Eventually, the cells in her body will enter a dormant state due to lack of nutrients, but as long as she is given enough sustenance, she will ’revive’ again.”

”Hahaha, it kind of feels like a slug, doesn’t it? Sprinkle salt on it and it dies, but sprinkle some water, and it revives, right, big brother?”

”While that’s roughly the idea, you should...”

Fang Zheng said, glancing at the pale-faced Rea.

”...probably not say that in front of the person concerned.”

After all, no girl likes being compared to a slug.

”In any case, everything seems normal for now. The only thing you need to be careful about is your strength.”

Perhaps due to dual effects of the virus infection and mutation, the current Rea possessed frighteningly large amounts of strength, capable of pushing an overloaded truck with her bare hands. However, she clearly couldn’t control her strength very well; it was odd, considering she had managed her body well while sleepwalking before but became unaccustomed when she was awake...

As for the issue of the virus infection, there’s no need to worry. After examination, Fang Zheng informed everyone that the virus had been ”controlled” by the cells in Rea’s body and had lost its infectivity. One wouldn’t become a zombie from a bite by Rea, but the downside was... poisoning.

The virus wouldn’t cause death, but being bitten by Rea could result in muscle stiffening or temporary paralysis.

At least for now, apart from being unable to control her strength, Rea posed no threat to others, so everyone, including Rea herself, breathed a sigh of relief. After all, nobody wants a walking source of infection around them.

”Then, welcome to our group, Miss Sanhua Rea.”

After conducting a series of checks, Fang Zheng stood up, smiled at Rea, and said.

”I think you know that our main goal here is to search for and rescue survivors. Of course, you will usually only be responsible for logistical work, but sometimes we might need to make use of your strength... Do you have any questions?”

”Of course, I’d love to help! Please guide me!”

Upon hearing Fang Zheng’s question, Rea nodded vigorously. Like Keiichi, she was well aware of what the world had become, and how difficult it was to survive alone. Not to mention she was a zombie; even if she encountered other living people, it would be difficult to be accepted, and even if she integrated, she would have to conceal her identity.

But here, not only did they know her identity, but they also didn’t hold that against her. Rea was no fool; she knew how rare it was to find a place that could accept her in a world where order had collapsed and terrible living dead roamed everywhere, so of course, she wouldn’t refuse.

And thus, the refuge created by Fang Zheng finally welcomed its first survivor...

Logically-speaking, if there’s one, there should be a second, and then a third, but...

”It’s been three days now, haven’t we found any other survivors?”

Little Hei, bored out of her mind, lay on the couch, rolling around and complaining.

”It seems the situation is worse than we thought...”

For this, Fang Zheng was not particularly surprised. Considering the rate of virus evolution and its infectivity, plus the non-stop state of the Resident Evil creatures, finding survivors was extremely difficult. At least for now, they had searched more than half the city but found no other survivors.

One really didn’t know whether to consider their luck good or bad...

”Don’t worry; as the saying goes, ’the boat will sink when it gets to the bridge’. We will surely find clues, won’t we? Just keep searching this way...”

”But to search one city takes so long, how much time will it take if we are to search the entire world?”

Little Hei, who was initially full of enthusiasm, also started to feel bored at this point. This was quite normal; if they had time-traveled to some Another World, they might have been able to experience the local culture and customs. But in a world facing a zombie apocalypse like Resident Evil, going out meant encountering zombies all over the streets, which was anything but fun. Moreover, many places had already lost power, and at any given moment, hordes of zombies could appear. To be honest, this place truly lacked interesting things.

Furthermore, in the Trial World, unlike mission worlds, Mr. Fang Zheng couldn’t just open a door and send them back whenever he wanted, which also made Little Hei feel somewhat bored.

”Alright, don’t worry, I have a feeling that it’ll probably happen very soon...”

”Thump thump thump...!”

Before Mr. Fang Zheng finished speaking, as if to prove his words, a series of rapid footsteps came their way. Then they saw Rea running into the living room, gasping for breath while waving her hands frantically.

”Mr. Fang Zheng! Mr. Fang Zheng! I’ve discovered something unusual!”

”Oh? What is it?”

Hearing Rea’s words, Mr. Fang Zheng also leaned on the couch and looked up at Rea. Then Rea nodded and waved her hands again.

”You see... when I was out for a walk just now, I sensed that the other corpses... were restless.”

”Restless?”

Upon hearing this, Mr. Fang Zheng immediately sat up, looking at Rea with keen interest.

After becoming a Zombie, for some reason unknown, other zombies did not attack Rea. Not only that, Rea could even vaguely sense changes in the other zombies. According to Rea, these zombies looked just like wild animals, not having developed a self-awareness like hers. Moreover, the zombies were filled with an aura of death and killing, which made Rea feel a bit uneasy.

But anyhow, at least Rea could sense the emotional changes in the zombies, and at the moment, it seemed that this was precisely why she had found some clues.

”What exactly is going on?”

”This is what happened... I went for a walk in a nearby park, and then I noticed a few corpses following the road ahead. I was very curious, so I followed them for a while, and then I discovered... that many zombies were coming out from all directions, all moving towards the same location! It felt like... they were responding to some Summon...”

”Oh? That really happened?”

Mr. Fang Zheng was taken aback upon hearing this.

”Where did those zombies go?”

”Towards the southwest!”

”I see!”

Saying this, Mr. Fang Zheng quickly turned on his personal terminal.

”Tina, activate the detector, search for the zombie horde in the southwest part of the city, and check out the situation!”

”Understood.”

Hearing Mr. Fang Zheng’s command, Tina nodded and immediately activated the detector. It wasn’t long before Mr. Fang Zheng’s personal terminal displayed a surprising scene.

On the screen, an overwhelming horde of zombies could be seen moving down the streets and roads towards the same direction, just as Rea had said, as if they were responding to some kind of Summon...

What in the world was going on?

”Tina, do you know their destination?”

”Right here.”

Tina extended her hand and pressed the screen in front of her; quickly, a cluster of red buildings was zoomed in.

”The Red Brick Warehouse, that’s where the zombies are headed.”

”Excellent.”

Upon getting the response, Mr. Fang Zheng immediately stood up.

”Let’s go and see what exactly has happened!”
