Space Odyssey from Abandoned Mining Space Station

Chapter 626: Chapter 193: Purgatory Core

Seeing Bai Quan with a look indicating he had some speculation in mind.

Chen Ming spoke openly, ”I feel that this thing is somewhat like the one you mentioned some time ago...”

Bai Quan interrupted before Chen Ming could finish, ”I think so too, so I need to ask about it. Wait for my news.”

”Alright.”

Bai Quan hung up the communication somewhat impatiently.

He immediately took the video sent by Chen Ming and headed to the exclusive research institute under the headquarters of the Fourteenth Legion where he was currently located.

Leaving Chen Ming alone in contemplation.

Pondering over the situation of those over fifty cruisers and that source of danger.

Firstly, Chen Ming is certain that those over fifty cruisers of the Mechanical Race, even if they were already damaged before reaching the star system, were definitely provoked by his actions on the Mechanical Race’s colonized planet.

And not that they came here after failing to deal with that source of danger.

Because those over fifty cruisers had no ability to resist in the face of that source of danger.

If the Mechanical Race had known about such a dangerous thing in advance, they wouldn’t have dispatched over fifty cruisers all at once to target this entity.

Whether it’s sending one ship or fifty ships, if they can’t hit it, it’s a loss all the same.

The Mechanical Race isn’t that foolish.

If the Mechanical Race didn’t know about this thing, then the purpose of those over fifty cruisers does indeed only revolve around Chen Ming.

So Chen Ming feels that it’s very likely that the reinforced fleet of the Mechanical Race accidentally encountered this thing on their way.

Although he is still unsure of what knowledge the Mechanical Race has of this source of danger.

But it is likely that the fleet of the Mechanical Race suffered heavy losses after a battle, or rather a one-sided beating, against this thing.

The remaining fleet of the Mechanical Race chose to continue toward their destination, which was the colonized star system under Chen Ming’s attack.

The city they built in the colony had already collapsed under the attack of the insect swarm.

In the situation where it was irretrievable, leaving Chen Ming, the instigator, and eliminating him became the best outcome for them.

Leading the threat eastward at the necessary moment was also a good choice.

Even if it failed, the things they lost because of Chen Ming wouldn’t come back anyway, so it was better to exchange greater losses for a larger probability of eliminating Chen Ming.

The Mechanical Race indeed made a fierce resolve.

It’s just unfortunate that Chen Ming escaped too quickly.

The source of danger brought by the Mechanical Race targeted the Mechanical Race immediately.

As Chen Ming roughly deduced the sequence of events that had just occurred, he suddenly took a deep breath.

Because there were still many questions in his mind.

What exactly was that source of danger?

How did the Mechanical Race provoke this thing?

These two questions remain as elusive as ever.

So Chen Ming temporarily stopped thinking about this matter, waiting peacefully for Bai Quan’s response.

Meanwhile, there was another issue that awaited Chen Ming’s attention.

Which was the matter of his spiritual energy being unable to control the Mechanical Race.

Previously, Chen Ming had personally attempted using spiritual energy and had already roughly understood the situation after seeing the prompt later.

He knew exactly what was causing him to be unable to control the Mechanical Race.

The answer was actually quite simple.

The only thing that could counter spiritual energy was spiritual energy itself.

Though this statement isn’t absolute, it holds true in many cases.

The Hive Mind Network among the Mechanical Race throughout the Mechanical Race Star Realm, much like Chen Ming’s own Hive Mind Network of the Mechanical Race, was linked through spiritual energy.

It was precisely because the Mechanical Race on the target planet and the cruisers connected with the city’s core were linked, and the cruisers connected to a higher-level Hive Network.

Therefore, he couldn’t control these Mechanical Race entities already heavily influenced by spiritual energy.

The discovery of this situation also clarified something for Chen Ming.

He had always wondered, with such an esoteric thing like the Hive Mind, logically, it should be disconnected when the distance is far enough.

How could a Hive Mind maintain connectivity across hundreds, thousands, or even tens of thousands of light-years, and transmit everything seen by their kind without any obstruction?

Clearly, the Hive Mind of the Insect Race is divided into different colonies, where there could even be infighting between colonies.

Just like Chen Ming’s controlled Insect Queen’s mother, upon discovering another Thorn Insect Race group on that independent Mechanical Race orbit, immediately devoured the other group, assimilating it as nutrition, and then evolved into a destroyer.

The Hive Mind Network of the Insect Race is clearly based on the colony unit.

Yet, the Mechanical Race could integrate into such a large Star Realm, with more than one Star Realm in the entire universe.

Only a very few independent Mechanical Race clusters might be outside this massive Hive Mind Network.

Chen Ming never understood before.

Until today, he discovered that the answer had already been reflected in himself.

Spiritual energy is precisely the foundation that maintains such a Hive Mind Network, whose coverage is measured on a star realm scale.

Chen Ming felt he should have thought of it sooner.

Because the first spiritually-related thing he encountered, that whispering Spiritual Stone, was something obtained from the Mechanical Race.

The Mechanical Race itself, unlike Dusk, is the legacy of another civilization, inherently possessing spiritual energy.
