Space Odyssey from Abandoned Mining Space Station

Chapter 615: Chapter 190: Purgatory_2

The Fungal Mat had unknowingly expanded rapidly beneath the Mechanical Race, connecting with it.

With the nutrients provided by the Fungal Mat, the fungus within the Mechanical Race grew even more rapidly.

In the blink of an eye, it completely filled up the entire Mechanical Race.

Just when Chen Ming thought it was over, and the micro-insects only needed a step to completely kill such a Mechanical Race unit.

He suddenly discovered that these tiny insects hidden inside the Mechanical Race suddenly cocooned, much like the Insect Queen.

However, unlike the Insect Queen, they did not emerge from the cocoon.

Instead, countless tendrils, like nerves, grew from the cocoon and, following the fungi inside the Mechanical Race, gradually spread to its entire body.

Then Chen Ming, via sensors, saw a Charge Cannon Centipede, its entire body covered by fungi, suddenly turn its cannon around and fire a Charge Cannon at the rear of the Mechanical Race’s line.

Following closely, other Mechanical Races, completely covered by fungi and with micro-insects developed to the cocooning stage inside, performed the same action.

Controlled by the micro-insects, they betrayed the Mechanical Race, using their own kind against them.

Chen Ming didn’t know how the Insect Queen learned to control mechanical bodies, perhaps it learned on the fly.

Or maybe some of the knowledge in its mind had been shared through the hive network.

But regardless, the Insect Queen indeed managed a strong offensive just before being pushed back.

Although such parasites couldn’t target the Blazing Silkworms that always maintained high temperatures, merely the Blazing Silkworms alone couldn’t be decisive.

Because at least three thousand Mechanical Races were covered by fungi just now, and nearly two thousand among them experienced this situation.

The ground battlefield situation completely tilted.

With the centipede weapon of these betrayed Mechanical Races, the Insect Race immediately broke through the defense line set by the Mechanical Race at the edge of the city’s core circle, completely shattering the Mechanical Race’s resistance.

Seizing the opportunity during the advantageous battlefield situation, Chen Ming exchanged some words with the Insect Queen.

He learned about the situation of these micro-insects, which were barely evolved by the Insect Queen as a prototype, referencing the genes of parasitic animals and plants to create these insects.

Whatever the battlefield needed, the Insect Queen could evolve.

That’s the ability of the Insect Queen.

It seems the Insect Queen probably doesn’t need his further assistance.

After consideration, Chen Ming decided to arrange for the Cruiser to land on the Planet in advance to prepare for the Insect Race to start capturing the remaining Mechanical Race individuals.

After all, the main purpose of Chen Ming’s raid this time wasn’t to completely wipe out the Mechanical Race on the Planet, but to seize Mechanical Race’s population and that colonial ship of the Mechanical Race.

In the case of the neighboring Mechanical Race Star Realm possibly reinforcing at any time, wiping out the entire city is clearly very difficult.

Although if Chen Ming really wanted to destroy the city, it wouldn’t be impossible; he could just let the Cruiser’s large weapons sweep the ground.

But even non-combat-capable Mechanical Race individuals are quite meaningful to Chen Ming.

Chen Ming wouldn’t do the kind of thing where weapon sweeping harms others without benefiting oneself.

It’s still the captured Mechanical Race individuals that are valuable to him.

And now there just happens to be new insects that can assist him in capturing the Mechanical Race.

Now the front line has been pushed into the city’s core interior by the Insect Race, and the rear Insect Race has spread within the city, beginning to capture.

And at the frontline, the Insect Race has already approached the Mechanical Race’s Cruiser at the city center, about to completely paralyze all ground forces, leaving them at the mercy of the Insect Race.

But just as Chen Ming began executing his plan, an unexpected occurrence happened.

Near the Mechanical Race’s Cruiser, a unique and gigantic Mechanical Race that Chen Ming had never seen before suddenly appeared.

Its presence once again halted the advance of the insect tide.

This Mechanical Race appeared similar to a centipede, but its size was doubled compared to the average centipede’s twenty meters.

On the ground battlefield, its size was far superior, being seven or eight meters larger than the giant Insect Race.

However, being merely large holds no significance, just like a centipede could easily pierce through a giant Insect Race with a single shot.

Therefore, if this Mechanical Race were just an ordinary Mechanical Race, the Insect Race would have crushed it directly.

But as it could halt the insect tide, this Mechanical Race was evidently not ordinary.

I saw it emanating a high temperature like the Blazing Silkworm, but the heat contained was far more scorching than that of the Blazing Silkworm.

Moreover, this heat, deadly to the Insect Race, did not dissipate over time like the Blazing Silkworm; instead, it gathered within its body, moving actively to the limbs, moving to its feet.

To the specially transformed grounds within the Mechanical Race’s city.

The metallic ground began to glow due to the high temperature.

A heatwave suddenly arose from the city’s surrounding environment.

The core area of the Mechanical Race city was heating up at a terrifying speed, centering on this Mechanical Race.

The white city built of White Cloud Steel Alloy was turning toward an orange-red heat.

The Insect Race, relying on its innate ability to influence the environment, suppressed the flames to reduce the harm it caused them.

But as the environment gradually transitioned from normal conditions to one shrouded in high temperatures and flames, the Insect Race’s means were becoming less effective.
