Myriad Heavens: Rise of the Rune God

Chapter 344: Chapter 345: A Place to Settle

They had been moving through the Omniverse for some time.

After the bar, after the conversations, after the first clear look at how Omniversal beings lived and spoke among themselves, Runar began to feel the same quiet certainty he always felt when a decision had already formed inside him. It was not sudden. It was not dramatic. It simply settled into his awareness the way a final piece of a puzzle settles into place — quietly, completely, and without any need for further debate.

Wandering without purpose did not suit him.

The Omniverse was vast beyond any previous measure. Infinite Multiverses drifted below them like living stories. Higher reality stretched in every direction. There was always something new to observe, always another conversation to overhear, always another old being drifting past with eyes that had seen too many cycles. But aimless movement was not the same as growth. Absolute Comprehension continued to read everything it touched, yet Runar could feel the difference between gathering information and building something lasting.

Reading is not the same as understanding, he thought, watching yet another Multiverse play out its story below them. And understanding is not the same as belonging.

They had been drifting for several cycles now. They had observed. They had listened. They had tasted Orath’s cooking and overheard conversations about Verse Eaters and favorite protagonists. They had learned the shape of Omniversal culture and the rules that governed it. But they had not stopped. They had not planted themselves anywhere.

And Runar wanted a place.

A place where comprehension could continue naturally. A place where novelty still existed. A place where he, Celestia, and Nyla could remain together without constantly moving. Not a fortress. Not a territory to be defended. Just a home.

He told them simply.

”I am going to find a place for us to settle.”

Celestia nodded once. She had already expected it. Her storm lattice had been growing restless during their wandering, reaching outward for structure to stabilize, for information to organize, for something to anchor itself to. She needed a place as much as Runar did, though she would never have said it first.

Nyla tilted her head, curiosity bright in her eyes, but she did not argue. Both of them understood him well enough by now. When Runar made a decision, the decision was already complete. The only question left was how it would unfold.

”About time,” Nyla said. ”I’ve been getting tired of sleeping in the void.”

”We don’t even need sleep,” Celestia corrected.

”You dont need sleep, but i need my daily 8 hours of precious sleep.”Nyla insisted. ”And the void is very comfortable.”

”But now its getting tiring.”

Celestia did not dignify that with a response.

Runar opened Absolute Comprehension fully.

The Omniverse unfolded in front of his perception. Multiverses of every kind appeared in layers — some ancient and heavily watched, some young and still forming, some already hollowed out by too many interventions. The information was vast, but Absolute Comprehension processed it without strain. Each Multiverse registered as a complete unit, a self-contained story with its own laws, its own beings, and its own trajectory.

He began filtering.

He discarded the ones that were too stable. Those Multiverses had reached their peak long ago and were now simply repeating themselves. They produced no novelty. They generated no surprises. Watching them would be like reading the same page over and over.

He discarded the ones that had been rewritten so many times that nothing genuine remained. Some Multiverses had been interfered with by so many Omniversals over the ages that their original laws had been buried under layers of external modification. They were no longer stories. They were palimpsests, written and rewritten until the original text was lost.

He discarded the ones that older Omniversals treated like personal gardens or private stages. Those Multiverses were already claimed. Settling near them would mean living in someone else’s shadow, and Runar had no interest in that.

Most of what he saw was either finished or claimed.

Celestia watched him work, her storm lattice tracking the patterns of his search. She could not read the Multiverses the way he could, but she could feel the rhythm of his rejection. This one, no. That one, no. Another, no. The process was patient and thorough.

”How many have you looked at?” she asked.

”Enough,” Runar said.

”That is not a number.”

”It is the correct answer.”

Nyla, floating nearby with her legs crossed and her chin resting in her hands, was watching the Multiverses below with her own kind of attention. Her curiosity engine could not read them the way Absolute Comprehension could, but it could feel their texture. Some felt warm. Some felt cold. Some felt like questions that had already been answered. Others felt like questions that had never been asked.

”This one feels dead,” Nyla said, pointing at a dim Multiverse in the distance.

”It is,” Runar confirmed. ”Its laws stopped evolving three thousand cycles ago. It is still running, but it is not growing.”

”And that one?” She pointed at a brighter one nearby.

”Claimed. An older Omniversal has been watching it for several thousand cycles. It is essentially his personal collection.”

Nyla frowned. ”That’s sad.”

”well It’s common,” Runar said.

They continued searching. The Omniverse stretched around them, infinite and patient, offering up its countless stories without preference or pressure. Runar read through them steadily, discarding and discarding, looking for the one thing that mattered.

Novelty.

Not novelty as spectacle. Not novelty as drama. Novelty as genuine potential. The kind of novelty that came from a Multiverse that was still becoming, still surprising itself, still capable of producing things that no one — not even an Omniversal observer — had seen before.

Then he found the cluster.

It was not the largest. It was not the strongest. It did not glow brighter than the others or pulse with more energy. But it was alive in a way few others still were. Its laws were still developing, still capable of surprising even an Omniversal observer. Timelines inside it produced unexpected variations instead of repeating the same patterns. Civilizations rose with genuine uncertainty rather than following scripts that had been used a thousand times before.

Most importantly, the cluster had not been fully claimed. A few distant Omniversals glanced at it from time to time, but none had settled their will over it. It existed in a quiet space between attention and neglect, growing on its own terms without being shaped by outside hands.

Runar studied it carefully.

He read its laws. He traced its timelines. He observed the civilizations inside it, the beings who lived and struggled and created without knowing that their entire reality was one small unit in an infinite sea of similar units. They were young. They were uncertain. They were still making choices that had not been made before.

This one still has room to grow, he thought. It still produces things I have not already seen.

He turned to Celestia and Nyla.

”This cluster,” he said. ”We will stay here.”

Celestia examined the flow of its laws through her storm lattice and gave a quiet sound of approval. ”It is balanced. Not too rigid. Not too chaotic.”

Nyla’s curiosity engine reached toward it and spun with interest. ”It feels... open. Like it still has secrets it hasn’t told anyone yet.”

Runar nodded. ”It does.”

”That’s the kind of place I want to be,” Nyla said. ”Somewhere that still has secrets.”

Celestia looked at the cluster for a long moment, her expression thoughtful. ”Will we interfere with it?”

Runar considered the question. ”No. We will observe. We will not shape its stories or alter its laws. It will grow on its own terms. We will simply be near.”

Celestia accepted that. Nyla accepted that. It was enough.

Runar began creating the domain.

He did not build a fortress. He did not raise walls meant to keep others out. What he shaped was a residence — a quiet space resting on the outer edge of the chosen cluster, close enough to observe everything clearly, far enough that their presence would not immediately distort the stories unfolding below. Higher reality substance answered his will. Space folded into stable form. Rooms and open platforms appeared, simple and clean.

The domain was not large. It did not need to be. It was a home, not a kingdom. A place to rest, to observe, to think, and to be together. The architecture was minimal but precise, shaped by Origin Weave with the same care Runar applied to everything. Every surface had a purpose. Every angle served a function. But the overall feeling was not cold or mechanical. It was quiet. It was warm. It was theirs.

Celestia stepped forward and spread her storm lattice through the forming structure. Where the domain might have remained too rigid, she added controlled flexibility. Where the flow of information from the cluster below threatened to become overwhelming, she created quiet channels that organized it without cutting it off. Her lattice became the nervous system of the domain, managing the flow of data and keeping everything stable without making it feel locked down.

Nyla added her own layers. Adaptive surfaces that could shift as the cluster evolved. Small spaces that responded to curiosity and experimentation. Places where new ideas could be tested without risk to the larger domain. She also added a few things that were purely for enjoyment — a viewing platform that could shift its perspective to show different Multiverses from different angles, a small garden-like space where higher reality substance could be shaped into temporary forms for the sake of play.

Runar noticed the garden. He did not comment on it. But he did not remove it.

Together, the three of them finished it.

When the work was done, the domain rested quietly above the chosen cluster of Multiverses. Below them, countless worlds continued their stories — young, uncertain, and still full of genuine possibility. Above them, the wider Omniverse stretched on without end.

Runar stood at the edge of their new home with Celestia on one side and Nyla on the other.

The place was not permanent in the way lower-reality homes were permanent. Nothing in the Omniverse truly was. But it was theirs for now. A place to rest. A place to observe. A place to continue growing without needing to wander.

Celestia looked out at the glowing cluster and spoke softly. ”It feels right.”

Nyla leaned against the low boundary of the domain and smiled. ”I already want to see what kind of strange things this place will produce.”

Runar remained quiet for a moment, Absolute Comprehension still lightly reading the Multiverses below. He could feel them generating new stories, new beings, new possibilities. He could feel the cluster growing, changing, surprising itself. It would take time. It would take many cycles. But it would produce things worth reading.

And he would be here to read them.

”Then we will stay,” he said.

The three of them stood together at the edge of their new life, the chosen cluster glowing quietly beneath them, and the vast Omniverse continuing on every side.

For the first time since ascending, they had a place to return to.

But don’t worry — the story is far from over.
