Myriad Heavens: Rise of the Rune God

Chapter 333: Chapter 334: The Choice to Wait

The sealed pocket dimension remained exactly as he had left it.

Warm light drifted from the slow-moving auroras overhead, spreading in soft bands of silver, violet, and pale gold across the artificial sky. The cloud-silk bed rested quietly at the center of the inner sanctum, and the living spiritual grass around it swayed without wind, carrying the kind of cultivated stillness that only Runar’s authority could maintain. Every part of the dimension had been reinforced, layered, and hidden behind protections so thorough that even beings who stood at the peak of the Multiverse would struggle to detect it, let alone enter without permission.

Inside that carefully reinforced space, Celestia and Nyla sat in deep cultivation.

Celestia’s presence was calm and structured. Silver-violet currents moved around her in slow, precise patterns, forming the outer shape of her storm lattice. The lattice had grown more refined since Runar had prepared the inheritance for her. It no longer resembled a chaotic storm, nor did it carry the sharp pressure of a weapon being forged. It looked more like a living framework of authority, each line supporting the next, each movement contributing to a greater order that was slowly becoming her own.

Nyla’s cultivation was different. Gold-and-crimson light flickered around her in restless, adaptive shapes. Her curiosity engine did not move in fixed patterns. It searched, tested, adapted, and rebuilt itself in real time, constantly generating new possibilities before discarding the weaker ones. Where Celestia’s foundation was being refined into elegance, Nyla’s was being refined into controlled creativity. Both paths were unique. Both paths were growing.

Meanwhile Runar’s expanded perception contracted.

The endless layers of the Multiverse — fully read, fully refined, fully finished — fell away from the center of his attention. The timelines, principles, systems, histories, and possibilities that had once poured into him without pause became distant, then quiet, then completely secondary. In their place returned the smaller, warmer space that had become home for the three of them.

The transition was not violent. It was not like withdrawing a hand from a fire or pulling a blade from a battlefield. It was more like closing a book that had been fully read and turning toward something that mattered more.

The moment his presence fully settled inside the dimension, both women felt it.

Celestia’s eyes opened first. The silver-violet currents of her storm lattice slowed and then stilled, settling around her like a cloak that had recognized its owner’s return. She turned her head toward him without hurry, already reading the change in his bearing. She did not need to ask whether he had succeeded. The answer was written in the calmness of his presence, in the way the dimension itself seemed to respond more naturally to him, and in the quiet depth that had replaced the last traces of searching in his golden-white eyes.

Nyla followed a breath later. The gold-and-crimson light of her curiosity engine faded as she rose from her seated position, expression sharpening with immediate awareness. Her senses were not as structured as Celestia’s, but they were sharper in their own way, especially when it came to changes in Runar. She looked at him, tilted her head slightly, and went still as the realization reached her.

They did not rush to him.

They simply looked, and in that look was the quiet understanding that something fundamental had shifted.

Runar met their gazes calmly.

For a moment he simply observed them, taking in the progress they had made while he had been completing the final stage of his digestion. Celestia’s foundation had become denser and more stable than he had expected. Nyla’s adaptability had grown to the point where even he found some of her solutions interesting. They were still far from ascension, but they were no longer standing at the beginning of the road. They had climbed far enough to see the shape of what lay ahead.

That was enough for now.

”The Multiverse has nothing left to teach me,” he said. His voice was steady, almost mild. ”I have read its laws, its timelines, its principles, and its possibilities. Every path it can produce, every insight it can generate, every version of what it might become... I have already seen.”

He paused, not because he needed time to choose his words, but because he wanted them to fully receive what came next.

”Ascension is no longer distant. The door is directly in front of me. I could open it whenever I choose.”

Silence settled for a moment.

The auroras overhead continued their slow drift, casting soft light over the spiritual grass. The dimension itself remained perfectly stable, but the atmosphere inside it had changed. The words he had spoken were not loud, not dramatic, and not filled with pressure, yet they carried a weight that made the air feel deeper.

Celestia’s expression did not change much, but the depth in her eyes deepened. She understood at once. If the Multiverse itself had become transparent to him, then the step beyond it was no longer a question of power or preparation. It was only a question of decision. A being who had finished reading the entire structure of existence could leave it behind whenever he wished. The Multiverse would not stop him. The Paragons would not stop him. Even the Guardian Wills, the ancient systems, and the hidden authorities of the wider cosmos had no meaning at that level.

Nyla took slightly longer. Her lips parted as if she meant to speak, then closed again as the full meaning landed. If he could ascend now, he could leave. He could step outside everything they currently knew and enter whatever waited above. The thought should have felt abstract, but it did not. It felt immediate. It felt real. It felt like a door had opened in the room without anyone seeing it.

Before either of them could form the question, Runar answered it.

”I will not go yet.”

The words were calm. There was no weight of sacrifice in them, because he did not regard the choice as a sacrifice. He did not say them as though he were giving something up. He said them the way one states a fact that has already been decided.

”I will wait until both of you are also capable of ascending,” he continued. ”The three of us will leave together.”

Celestia looked at him for a long moment. The full measure of what he was choosing settled over her in silence. A being who had reached the point where the Multiverse could no longer teach him was deliberately remaining inside it — not because he lacked the strength to leave, but because he refused to leave them behind. That decision could not be repaid with gratitude or words. It could only be accepted.

She had known he would not abandon them. She had trusted that from the beginning. But knowing something and hearing it spoken as a fact were different things. The difference made her chest feel warm in a way she did not try to hide.

Nyla’s reaction was more open. She started to speak with a lighter tone, the beginning of some familiar teasing remark, but her voice softened halfway through and the humor faded. She looked at Runar, really looked at him, and the playful spark in her eyes gave way to something deeper.

”You’re not waiting because you think we can’t catch up,” she said quietly. ”You’re waiting because you won’t go without us right?.”

Runar gave a small nod.

”I do not see this as a delay,” he said. ”Teaching you, refining your foundations, and walking beside you until you are ready is not a burden. It is the natural continuation of everything we have already built.”

Celestia’s gaze softened further. ”Even if we take fovever to reach ascension?” she asked.

She did not mean how long ascension would take. She meant how long he was willing to wait.

Runar looked at her without hesitation. ”As long as it takes.”

Nyla let out a breath that was almost a laugh, though it carried no amusement at his expense. ”That sounds like something you would say.”

”It is the truth,” Runar replied.

Celestia rose slowly from her cultivation position. Her movements were calm, elegant, and unhurried, but there was a new steadiness in them, as though his decision had settled something inside her as well. ”Then we will not make you wait longer than necessary.”

Nyla nodded immediately. ”We’ll catch up. Don’t think we’re going to let you stand around being noble forever.”

Runar’s expression remained calm, but the faintest trace of warmth passed through his eyes. ”I never expected you to let me.”

The three of them remained where they were for a time, the declaration resting between them without pressure. The dimension did not change. The auroras did not accelerate. The spiritual grass did not bend under the weight of the moment. Everything simply continued as it had before, except that the future had become clearer.

Eventually the distance closed on its own.

Celestia moved first, settling against his side with the same quiet certainty she always carried. Her hand rested lightly against his arm, not gripping, not demanding, simply present. Nyla followed a moment later, leaning her head against his shoulder, one arm loosely looped around his. There was no dramatic embrace, no excessive display of emotion. The moment was warm, steady, and deeply personal — the kind of closeness that did not need to prove itself.

For a while, none of them spoke.

Runar looked up at the slow drift of auroras and felt the quiet of the dimension settle around him. He had spent the last month holding the entire Multiverse in his perception. He had seen everything it contained, everything it had been, and everything it could become. Yet now, sitting here with the two people who had chosen to walk beside him, he found that the most meaningful thing he had done in all that time was not reading the library of existence.

It was deciding not to leave before they were ready.

Celestia’s voice broke the silence softly. ”Will you guide us?”

Runar did not need to ask what she meant. ”Yes.”

Nyla lifted her head slightly. ”Not just training?”

”No,” Runar answered. ”I will refine your foundations, correct your paths, and prepare your souls for the step beyond. Ascension is not something you can force. It must be stable. If the foundation is incomplete, the higher reality will either reject you or erase you. I will not allow either.”

Nyla frowned, but not because she disliked the answer. ”So no shortcuts.”

”No shortcuts,” Runar confirmed.

Celestia gave a small nod. ”Then we begin properly.”

Nyla glanced at her, then at Runar. ”How long until we know if we’re on the right track?”

Runar considered the question with the same seriousness he applied to everything. ”You already are. The next stage will be measured in decades, not days. But decades are not long.”

Nyla made a face. ”Easy for you to say. You just spent a month reading the entire Multiverse like it was a bookshelf.”

”It was closer to several bookshelves,” Runar replied.

Celestia’s lips curved faintly. ”Several bookshelves.”

Nyla looked between them. ”Are you both mocking me?”

”No,” Runar said.

”Yes,” Celestia said at the same time.

Nyla stared at her, then laughed quietly. The sound eased the last of the tension in the air.

Runar did not laugh often, but the corner of his expression softened in a way that was close enough. He had seen the end of the Multiverse. He had reached the point where ascension was a simple decision. And yet this small moment, sitting between them while they teased him about time and bookshelves, felt more real than any truth he had extracted from the cosmos.

The decision to wait was not a pause in his path.

It was part of it.

Outside the pocket dimension, the Multiverse remained silent. It had already surrendered its knowledge and withdrawn its resistance. The Paragons who had once tried to manage reincarnation and destiny were still moving through the consequences of his earlier demands. The Guardian Wills of the two universes he had protected were still guiding the chaos he had granted them. The family he had left behind was still living in peace under the protection he had woven into their region. Everything he had set in motion continued to move, but none of it required his immediate attention.

Inside the sealed space, the three of them sat together beneath the slow drift of auroras.

Celestia’s hand remained near his arm. Nyla’s head rested against his shoulder. The future no longer felt like something that chased them. It did not press down on them. It did not demand an answer before they were ready.

It simply waited, the same way he did.
