Myriad Heavens: Rise of the Rune God

Chapter 320: Chapter 321: Family Vacation Begins

Runar sat across from Celestia and Nyla in the quiet living hall of the compound, the remnants of evening tea still resting on the low table between them, and said, quite simply, ”We’re going on vacation.”

The words landed in the room with the weight of something completely unexpected. Celestia’s hand paused halfway to her cup. Nyla blinked twice, as though she suspected she had misheard. The Universal TV continued playing softly in the background, filling the silence that followed with distant commentary that no one registered.

Nyla recovered first. Her eyes lit up immediately, bright with a mixture of excitement and suspicion that had clearly been earned through past experience. ”A real one? Not the kind where you disappear into closed-door cultivation for three months and call it ’family time’?”

”A real one,” Runar confirmed, his tone carrying the same calm certainty he applied to everything. ”Multiple universes. Scenic views. Minimal chance of dimensional collapse.”

Celestia smiled the small, knowing smile she reserved for moments when she was genuinely pleased. It was not wide or dramatic, but it reached her eyes in a way that very few things could manage. ”How long?”

Runar looked at both of them, taking in the faint lines of worry that still lingered around Celestia’s expression and the way Nyla kept glancing at him as though confirming he was still physically present. He understood what they needed, even if they would not ask for it directly.

”As long as it takes for both of you to stop looking at me like I might vanish again.”

Nyla pointed at him with immediate conviction. ”That’s emotionally manipulative. I accept.”

Celestia did not argue. She simply set down her cup, rose from her seat, and began making preparations with the quiet efficiency of someone who had learned that when Runar made a decision, the best approach was to be ready before he changed his mind. Nyla was already on her feet, moving toward the door with enough energy to suggest she had been waiting for this exact announcement for weeks without realizing it.

They left the same day.

---

The first destination was a universe of floating archipelagos drifting through a sky of liquid starlight. Continents hung in the luminous currents like islands suspended in a slow-moving sea of light, their edges trailing ribbons of golden dust that dissolved into the brightness below. The air tasted faintly of ozone and old starlight, carrying a freshness that felt ancient and new at the same time. Bridges of crystallized gravity connected the larger islands, and in the far distance, entire mountain ranges drifted in lazy circles around a central sun that pulsed with soft, rhythmic light.

Nyla took one look at the liquid sky, watched the way it rippled and shimmered beneath the floating islands, and decided it was close enough to water.

”I’m swimming,” she announced, and jumped.

She did not so much fall as she did transition from one medium to another, her body passing through the boundary between solid ground and luminous sky with the confidence of someone who had not bothered to check whether the physics of this universe supported her intentions. She sank halfway through the surface of a floating island before Celestia caught her by the ankle and hauled her back up with a single, practiced motion.

Nyla hung upside down, hair drifting in the starlight, looking more offended than alarmed. ”The physics here are rude.”

Runar, standing on a nearby outcropping with his hands in his pockets, flicked one finger. The local spatial law corrected itself with a soft ripple that spread outward from the island’s edge like a stone dropped into still water. The liquid starlight beneath them thickened just enough to support weight, and the gravitational pull adjusted to something gentler. Nyla’s next experimental step landed on solid ground, and she grinned with the satisfaction of someone who had been proven right.

Celestia glanced at him, one eyebrow raised slightly. ”Did you just rewrite the island’s structural integrity?”

”I adjusted it,” Runar said. ”Slightly.”

A group of local Void-stage cultivators practicing forms on a distant island suddenly felt a pressure so pure and brief that their knees nearly gave out. It lasted less than a heartbeat, carried no hostility, and vanished before any of them could identify its source. By the time they looked up, the three visitors were already walking away along a crystal bridge, completely unbothered. The cultivators exchanged glances, silently agreed that they had seen nothing, and collectively decided that closed-door cultivation sounded very attractive for the next few decades.

---

The second universe was quieter. Its laws manifested as ever-changing poetry written across the sky in living script, verses forming, dissolving, and reforming with the movement of the stars. The words were not written in any language the three of them had learned through conventional study, yet their meaning was clear to anyone who looked up, as though the universe itself had decided that communication was more important than grammar. Mountains in the distance shifted their shapes to match the rhythm of the verses, and rivers flowed in patterns that corresponded to the meter of whatever poem currently filled the heavens.

Celestia found it beautiful. She stood still for long moments, reading the verses as they formed, her expression soft with genuine appreciation. Nyla found it excessive.

She pointed at a particularly dramatic line that had just appeared in sweeping golden strokes across the sky. ”’My tears are the collapsing stars of a lonely god.’ Who writes this? Who looks at the sky and thinks that’s a reasonable thing to say?”

Runar, walking with his hands behind his back, replied without looking up. ”Don’t offend the universe. It has literary pride.”

The sky immediately composed a new verse in elegant strokes, the characters forming with deliberate slowness as though the universe wanted to make sure everyone had time to read.

*The loud one criticizes beauty she does not understand.*

Celestia covered her mouth. Her shoulders shook once, then twice, and she turned away to hide the laugh that escaped despite her best efforts.

Nyla stared upward, genuinely betrayed. ”It’s bullying me. The sky is bullying me.”

”You started it,” Runar said, his tone carrying the faintest trace of amusement.

Nyla opened her mouth to argue with the sky, thought better of it, and settled for muttering under her breath while Celestia’s shoulders continued to shake.

---

By the third day they had settled into a comfortable rhythm. Wherever they went, minor inconveniences tended to resolve themselves without anyone taking visible action. Gravity adjusted to perfect comfort. Spiritual energy grew clearer in their presence. A sudden rainstorm in one world simply decided not to fall on them, the clouds parting in a precise circle that followed their path across the landscape. In another universe, a field of aggressive flora that had been threatening to encroach on their campsite quietly redirected its growth pattern overnight.

Celestia noticed first, because Celestia always noticed first.

”You’re spoiling the scenery,” she said one evening as they watched a binary sunset that had become inexplicably more vivid than the local star charts suggested it should be. The twin suns painted the sky in layers of gold and violet, and the light seemed to linger just a little longer on the three of them than physics should have allowed.

Nyla nodded in agreement from her position on the other side of him. ”He’s a walking luxury formation. Admit it.”

Runar considered the accusation with the same seriousness he once applied to life-and-death battles. ”I’m on vacation. Efficiency is part of relaxation.”

Neither wife looked convinced. Celestia gave him a look that clearly said she would be revisiting this conversation later, and Nyla made a small noise of disagreement before leaning back against his shoulder and deciding that arguing could wait until after the sunset.

---

Cultivation guidance began without ceremony, woven naturally into the quiet hours of their journey. During the evenings, when the sky had settled and the day’s exploration had wound down, Runar would sit with them and point out flaws in their foundations with casual precision. His explanations were short, almost offhand, delivered in the same tone he might use to comment on the weather. Yet every sentence loosened bottlenecks that had resisted months of effort, and every correction opened pathways they had not known were blocked.

He did not lecture. He did not draw diagrams or construct elaborate demonstrations. He simply looked at their cultivation the way he looked at everything else, saw exactly what was wrong, and told them in plain language how to fix it. The simplicity of his explanations was almost more overwhelming than complexity would have been, because it meant the answers had been there all along, waiting for someone with the right eyes to point them out.

Nyla lasted three evenings before she threw her hands up in dramatic surrender.

”Every time I think I understand something, you add three more layers and suddenly I’m a beginner again. I had a breakthrough yesterday, and today you told me the breakthrough was built on a flawed assumption I made six years ago. Six years, Runar.”

Celestia sipped her tea and said mildly, ”This is why we don’t ask him for simple explanations.”

Runar glanced between them, genuinely asking rather than testing. ”Would you prefer I stop?”

Both women answered at the same time, without hesitation and with absolute certainty.

”No.”

He nodded once and continued.

---

The Mirror Bloom World was their fourth stop. Every flower in this universe reflected a possible version of the person who looked into it, showing not who they were, but who they could become under different circumstances. The flowers grew in vast fields that stretched to every horizon, their petals shifting color as different visitors passed, and the air carried a faint sweetness that made the mind more open to possibility.

Nyla found one that showed her as a tyrannical empress standing atop a mountain of defeated experts, her expression cold and absolute, her robes trimmed with the banners of conquered factions. She studied it with open approval, tilting her head to one side. ”I look good with a cold expression. Very commanding. I should try that.”

Celestia’s flower showed her seated in a quiet pavilion while the laws of an entire universe gently rearranged themselves around her reading light. Nothing dramatic. Nothing violent. Just a woman at peace, with reality bending itself to ensure her comfort without being asked. She regarded the image for a long moment and said nothing, though the corner of her mouth softened in a way that suggested the vision pleased her more than she intended to admit.

Runar looked into one.

The flower displayed a calm man drinking tea. Behind him, the Multiverse burned in elegant, controlled flames. He appeared completely unbothered. The fire did not frighten him. It did not threaten him. It simply existed, and he simply drank his tea, and the two facts coexisted without conflict.

Both wives turned to stare at him.

Runar met their eyes and said, with perfect seriousness, ”It’s artistic interpretation.”

Nyla pointed at the flower. ”That is not artistic. That is a threat.”

”I’m on vacation,” he repeated, as though that explained everything.

Celestia looked at the flower again, then at him, then back at the flower. ”We’ll discuss this later.”

”Of course,” Runar agreed, already walking toward the next field.

---

On the final night of the first leg of their journey, the three of them sat together beneath a sky Runar had quietly made more comfortable. The stars were clearer than any natural sky had a right to be. The temperature was perfect, carrying just enough warmth to be pleasant and just enough coolness to keep the air fresh. Even the distant wind had decided to be gentle, carrying the scent of something floral from a direction none of them could identify.

Celestia leaned lightly against his shoulder, her breathing slow and even. ”I’m glad you came back.”

The words were quiet, almost too soft to hear, but they carried a weight that made Runar turn his head slightly to look at her. Her eyes were closed, her expression peaceful, and the tension that had lived in her shoulders since the Reliquary had finally, truly eased. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ

Nyla, on his other side, nodded in agreement. Then she ruined the moment with impeccable timing.

”Does the next universe have good food? Because the last one tried to serve me poetry as an appetizer and I’m still offended. Actual food. Solid food. Food that doesn’t rhyme.”

Runar exhaled through his nose, the closest he usually came to a laugh, and began searching for universes that offered excellent cuisine and a statistically low chance of dimensional collapse. Celestia smiled without opening her eyes. Nyla settled back against his shoulder with the satisfaction of someone who had successfully redirected the conversation.

The Multiverse was vast.

For the first time in a long while, that fact felt like an invitation rather than a threat.
