Myriad Heavens: Rise of the Rune God

Chapter 340: Chapter 341: Welcome to the Omniverse

The transition was not like entering a bigger universe.

It was like stepping out of a single story into a space where countless stories were visible at once. One moment Runar, Celestia, and Nyla were passing through the barrier of the Multiverse, surrounded by the crushing gravity of ascension and the flood of higher reality substance. The next moment, the barrier was gone. Behind them, their Multiverse hung as a single small unit among an infinite number of Multiverses, glowing faintly in the vastness below like one book on an endless shelf.

The pressure was not gone.

It was greater.

The gravity they had felt during ascension — the crushing, multiplying weight that Celestia had said would kill a normal Paragon — was nothing compared to what pressed down on them now. The Omniverse carried a weight that was not merely stronger. It was of a completely different order. The higher reality substance that had flooded them during ascension was not something they had left behind. It pervaded the entire Omniverse in obscene amounts, present everywhere, saturating every layer of existence with a density that made the Multiverse feel thin by comparison.

Celestia staggered.

Her storm lattice flared violently around her, trying to impose structure on a pressure that did not operate according to any structure she recognized. Her vessel groaned under the weight. Her soul core trembled. She forced herself upright through sheer will, but the effort was visible.

Nyla hit the ground beside her — or what passed for ground in this space — with a sharp grunt. Her curiosity engine spun wildly, generating adaptations faster than she could process them, but the pressure kept rising. Her knees buckled. Her breath came short.

Runar stood perfectly still.

The pressure pressed against him the same way it pressed against them, but his vessel did not tremble. His soul core did not shake. Absolute Comprehension and Origin Weave had refined his foundation far beyond normal limits, and the higher reality substance that saturated the Omniverse simply flowed through him as though it had always been part of his existence.

He moved immediately.

One hand pressed against Celestia’s back. The other against Nyla’s. Origin Weave activated without hesitation, channeling directly into their vessels. The principle moved through them like a living architecture, reinforcing their structures, stabilizing their foundations, and teaching their newly evolved bodies how to exist under this pressure without collapsing.

Celestia felt the stabilization hit her like a breath of air after being underwater. Her storm lattice settled. Her vessel stopped trembling. She exhaled slowly and straightened.

Nyla’s curiosity engine found its rhythm again. The wild spinning slowed into something controlled and adaptive. She pushed herself upright and rolled her shoulders experimentally.

”Thank you,” Celestia said quietly, her voice steady again.

”Yeah,” Nyla added, flexing her fingers. ”That was unpleasant.”

Runar removed his hands. ”The pressure will continue. Your vessels need to adapt on their own.”

He was right. Even as they stood there talking, the pressure kept pressing down on them. But with Runar’s initial stabilization, their foundations had learned the shape of the weight. Within minutes, Celestia’s storm lattice adjusted its internal structure to bear the load without strain. Nyla’s curiosity engine generated a new adaptive pattern that distributed the pressure across her vessel evenly.

They began to move freely.

Celestia took a step, then another, testing the weight. Nyla stretched her arms overhead and rolled her neck. The pressure was still immense — objectively, terrifyingly immense — but their foundations had learned to carry it.

---

Aelome had been watching a particularly slow cluster of Multiverse units for the last few thousand cycles when he felt a barrier ripple near the the cluster of units he was reading.

This was not unusual. Ascensions happened. New beings climbed out of their native Multiverses and stepped into the Omniverse with wide eyes and shaking foundations. Aelome had seen thousands of them over the ages. Most arrived alone. Most arrived confused. Most arrived barely stable, their souls still adjusting to the higher reality substance, their vessels still trembling under the weight of what they had become.

He had seen two arrive together once, a pair of bonded cultivators from a Multiverse that had produced an unusually strong generation. That had been interesting enough to make him pause his observation and greet them personally.

He had never seen three arrive at the same time.

Aelome shifted his attention fully toward the source of the ripple and looked.

Three figures stood in the Omniverse, newly ascended, still carrying the faint residue of their native Multiverse on their foundations. Two of them had stumbled under the initial pressure. That was normal. The Omniverse’s gravity crushed most new arrivals for the first several hours until their vessels adapted. Aelome remembered his own ascension vividly. He had spent nearly three hours on his knees, gasping, his soul core screaming under the weight of a reality that was simply too dense for his freshly evolved body to bear.

But the third figure had not stumbled.

The young man in the center stood perfectly still under the pressure that had driven his two companions to the ground. Not merely enduring it. Standing in it as though it was familiar. And then, without hesitation, he had reached out and stabilized both of them. Channeled his own principle into their vessels. Taught their foundations how to carry the weight.

Aelome watched the two women recover within minutes. He watched them stand. He watched them begin to move freely under a pressure that had taken him hours to adjust to.

Well, Aelome thought, a slow smile forming across his ancient features. This is new.

He moved toward them.

---

The presence that approached them resolved into a shape that Celestia’s mind could process. It appeared as a figure of soft, shifting light, neither fully solid nor fully transparent, with features that suggested age without displaying any specific race or form. The light around it moved slowly, like clouds drifting across a sunset that had been happening for eons.

The figure stopped a respectful distance away and regarded the three of them with open curiosity.

”Well,” it said, in a voice that sounded warm and unhurried, like someone greeting unexpected but welcome guests at a very old door. ”This is certainly a first.”

Runar met the being’s gaze calmly. Celestia shifted slightly, her storm lattice adjusting to assess the presence without appearing threatening. Nyla simply stared with undisguised interest.

The figure noticed all three reactions and smiled.

”No need to tense. I am not here to test you or challenge you. My name is Aelome. I have been here longer than I care to count, and I have made it something of a quiet habit to greet new arrivals when they catch my attention.” His shifting gaze moved between them. ”You caught my attention.”

Runar inclined his head slightly. ”I am Runar.” He gestured to his left. ”This is Celestia.” Then to his right. ”And this is Nyla.”

Celestia gave a small, measured nod. Nyla waved. ”Hi. Nice to meet someone who isn’t directly hostile or trying to eat our Multiverse.”

Aelome laughed softly. ”That is a relief. I do try to make a good first impression.”

Nyla leaned slightly toward Runar. ”Is this normal?”

”Greeting new ascenders?” Aelome repeated, his tone light. ”Not particularly. Most arrive alone, half-finished, and wondering whether they have died and been reborn into something stranger. I do not usually bother. But three of you arrived together, stable, coherent, and apparently already aware of what you are looking at. That is rare enough to warrant a conversation.”

He paused, then added with a thoughtful tilt of his head, ”And the way you handled the initial pressure, Runar. I remember my own ascension. It took me several hours to stop my vessel from collapsing under the weight of this place. You stood in it without difficulty and stabilized two others within moments. That is not normal.”

Runar did not appear particularly moved by the observation. ”My preparation was thorough.”

”Thorough,” Aelome repeated, as though tasting the word. ”Yes. I imagine it was.”

He gestured outward, and the view around them seemed to clarify. The countless Multiverses below became more distinct, each one a self-contained sphere of existence, glowing faintly with its own internal light. Some were bright and active. Some were dim and quiet. A few were dark, their light extinguished entirely. Behind the three of them, their own Multiverse hung as a single small point among the infinite, already looking distant and small.

”The Omniverse is not a larger Multiverse,” Aelome explained, his tone conversational, as though he were describing a landscape to travelers who had just arrived in a new country. ”It is a higher-order existence. Every Multiverse you see down there is a complete, self-contained unit. A story. A channel. A living simulation playing itself out from beginning to end. There are infinite of them, and more are being born all the time.”

Nyla’s eyes widened. ”All of them are... stories?”

”In a sense,” Aelome said. ”Not stories written by someone. Stories that write themselves. Each one generates its own laws, its own beings, its own conflicts, its own conclusions. Some are beautiful. Some are tragic. Some are so dull that I cannot bring myself to watch them for more than a few cycles.” He shrugged lightly. ”But they are all real to the beings inside them. That is worth remembering.”

Celestia looked down at the Multiverses below, her expression thoughtful. ”Can you interact with them?”

Aelome nodded. ”Yes. Omniversal beings can watch any Multiverse in real time. We can rewind timelines, fast-forward events, zoom in on specific beings or specific moments. We can interfere if we choose.” He paused, then added with a faint shrug. ”Most of us do not interfere. There is little reason to. But when we do, it is usually casual. A whim. A moment of boredom.”

”What kind of interference?” Runar asked.

”Oh, anything,” Aelome said, waving one hand vaguely. ”Dropping a protagonist into a world that needs one. Altering a physical law to see what happens. Saving a civilization because its story was going in a direction I found unpleasant. Destroying one because it had become repetitive.” His tone carried no cruelty, only the casual honesty of someone describing a hobby. ”To us, it is no more significant than changing the channel or adjusting a setting in a game. To the beings inside, of course, it is the end of everything they know. Perspective is a strange thing at this level.”

Celestia’s expression tightened slightly. Nyla frowned. Runar simply listened, his golden-white eyes steady.

Aelome noticed their reactions and tilted his head. ”You disapprove.”

It was not a question. It was an observation, delivered without judgment.
