Myriad Heavens: Rise of the Rune God

Chapter 334: Chapter 335: The First Decade Together

The decision to wait settled over the three of them like a long, quiet promise.

In the days that followed, the sealed pocket dimension no longer felt like a temporary refuge. It became the starting point of something slower and more deliberate. Celestia and Nyla returned to their cultivation with a different kind of focus, because the knowledge that Runar would remain with them until they were ready removed a subtle tension neither of them had fully acknowledged before. What remained was warmer, steadier, and more patient, as though the future had stopped pressing against their shoulders and had instead chosen to sit quietly nearby.

Runar began guiding them in a new way.

He no longer simplified his words. Their foundations had grown strong enough to receive higher truths directly, so he spoke them without dilution. A single sentence from him could open an entire layer of understanding. He did not lecture at length. He pointed, corrected, and reshaped with absolute precision. Combat refinement, principle shaping, soul stabilization, and direct comprehension guidance blended into one continuous process that followed them through every hour of the day.

Celestia absorbed his guidance like still water accepting light. She listened carefully, tested each instruction against her own foundation, and integrated it with quiet efficiency. Nyla challenged it, tested it, and sometimes argued with it before making it her own. She asked questions that would have made lesser teachers pause, then asked three more questions after receiving an answer. Both methods worked. Runar allowed both.

On the third day of this new training rhythm, Nyla finally reached her limit.

”Wait,” she said, raising one hand in the middle of a principle-shaping exercise. ”Can you slow down? You just said four things, and three of them rewrote my understanding of the other four.”

Runar looked at her calmly. ”I said three things.”

”Yes,” Nyla replied. ”And one of them was a correction, which means there were actually five things.”

Celestia, seated nearby with her storm lattice circulating in slow silver-violet currents, opened one eye. ”You are making it worse.”

”I am making it accurate,” Nyla said.

Runar considered the complaint for a moment. ”Would you prefer I repeat the explanation in a simpler structure?”

Nyla narrowed her eyes suspiciously. ”If you say ’simply’ one more time, I’m going to start taking notes out of spite.”

Celestia’s lips curved faintly. ”You should take notes anyway.”

”I don’t need notes. I have memory.”

”You have curiosity,” Celestia corrected. ”Those are not the same thing.”

Nyla opened her mouth to argue, then stopped. She looked at Runar. ”She’s being smug.”

Runar’s expression did not change. ”She is correct.”

Nyla stared at him. ”You’re supposed to be on my side.”

”I am,” Runar said. ”That is why I am not letting you build your foundation on stubbornness.”

Nyla sighed dramatically and returned to her cultivation. Celestia’s storm lattice pulsed once with quiet amusement.

After a period of consolidation inside the pocket dimension, they left it.

The three of them began traveling.

Runar selected the universes with deliberate care. Some were beautiful and peaceful — wide skies, gentle laws, and long stretches of quiet land where Celestia could stabilize the growing structure of her power and Nyla could explore without immediate pressure. Others were harsh. Hostile laws pressed against their principles. Ancient ruins held residual dangers that forced sharp reactions. A few contained the remnants of extinct cultivation systems, which Runar used as living examples of paths that had failed and why.

They moved from one to the next without hurry.

Their first destination was a universe made almost entirely of crystalline seas. The water was not water in the ordinary sense. It was a flowing medium of condensed spatial law, soft enough to ripple and deep enough to swallow thoughts if one stared into it for too long. Islands of pale stone floated above the surface, connected by bridges that formed only when someone intended to cross them.

Nyla looked at the sea and immediately became interested.

”I want to touch it,” she said.

Celestia did not look away from the horizon. ”No.”

”I was just going to touch it.”

”No.”

Runar stood beside them with his hands in his pockets, observing the local laws. ”It will not harm you if your intention remains stable.”

Celestia turned to him. ”That is not the same as saying it is safe.”

”It is not,” Runar agreed.

Nyla was already crouched at the edge of the island, one hand hovering above the crystalline surface. ”So if I don’t think unstable thoughts, it’s fine?”

”Yes,” Runar said.

Celestia looked at Nyla. ”You are incapable of not thinking unstable thoughts.”

Nyla grinned. ”Watch me.”

She touched the sea.

The crystalline surface lit up instantly, responding to the first active thought in her mind. Unfortunately, the first active thought was: *I wonder what happens if I pull?*

The sea pulled back.

A column of transparent law rose from the surface, wrapped gently around Nyla’s wrist, and tried to interpret her curiosity as a formal request to reshape the local environment. The island trembled. The bridge behind them vanished. A distant mountain made of floating crystal slowly turned to face them as though it had developed an opinion.

Celestia closed her eyes briefly. ”We have been here for five minutes.”

Runar flicked one finger. The crystalline column released Nyla’s wrist, returned to the sea, and became ordinary water for exactly three seconds before remembering itself and turning back into law. The mountain stopped turning. The bridge reappeared.

Nyla looked at her wrist, then at the sea, then at Runar. ”That was educational.”

Celestia gave her a flat look. ”You broke the ocean.”

”I didn’t break it. I asked it a question.”

”The ocean did not consent,” Celestia said.

Runar stepped forward and examined the place where Nyla had touched the sea. ”The local law interpreted curiosity as a command. Interesting. This universe has not developed a boundary between intent and execution.”

Celestia looked at him. ”Please do not say that in a way that encourages her.”

Runar turned to Nyla. ”Do not do that again until your principle can separate inquiry from authority.”

Nyla nodded seriously. ”Understood. No asking oceans to do things.”

”Yes.”

”Yet.”

Celestia sighed.

Runar allowed the faintest trace of amusement to enter his voice. ”We will stay here for one month.”

Celestia looked at him in disbelief. ”One month?”

”It is a useful environment,” Runar said.

Nyla smiled brightly. ”See? Educational.”

Celestia’s path grew clearer with each passing year.

Her power refined itself into what Runar came to recognize as a storm lattice — a structured, elegant framework of authority. It combined precision, control, and overwhelming order. Unlike the wild storms of lesser cultivators, hers did not rage. It governed. It decided where chaos was permitted to exist and where it was not. Under Runar’s guidance she gradually removed the unnecessary aggression that had once lived in her foundation. The storm grew quieter, cleaner, and more absolute.

During one training session in a universe where the sky was made of shifting silver clouds, Celestia finally demonstrated the result of several years of refinement. She stood above a vast plain and released her storm lattice without violence. The clouds did not crash down. The wind did not scream. The laws of the region simply rearranged themselves around her will, accepting her authority as though it had always belonged there.

Runar observed the display and nodded once. ”Good.”

Celestia turned to him, waiting.

”You over-controlled the eastern edge.”

Her expression did not change, but her eyes sharpened. ”The eastern edge was unstable.”

”Yes,” Runar said. ”Because you were afraid it would become unstable.”

Celestia was silent for a moment. Then she looked back at the plain, raised one hand, and released the lattice again. This time the eastern edge moved freely within the structure she allowed it. The storm did not weaken. It became more complete.

Runar gave the same nod. ”Better.”

Celestia allowed herself a small smile. ”You could have said that the first time.”

”You needed to find it,” Runar replied.

Nyla, watching from a nearby rock with her chin resting in her hands, raised one finger. ”Can I break something now?”

Celestia did not look at her. ”No.”

Nyla’s path moved in the opposite direction.

Her foundation evolved into something Runar privately called a curiosity engine — a living principle that fed on questions, adaptation, and creative possibility. Where Celestia sought perfect structure, Nyla sought new combinations. Her cultivation became wilder, more adaptive, and sometimes dangerously creative. She would take a stable method and deliberately break it just to see what new shape it could form. Runar never suppressed that wildness. He taught her how to aim it so that the explosions of insight did not collapse her foundation.

In one sealed realm filled with ancient floating stones, Nyla spent three days trying to combine a basic movement technique with a fragment of spatial law she had observed in the crystalline sea. On the fourth day, she succeeded. The result was not movement. It was a short-distance conceptual skip that allowed her to appear behind Celestia without crossing the space between.

Celestia reacted instantly, storm lattice flaring as she spun around and nearly struck her with a compressed bolt of ordered lightning.

Nyla yelped and vanished again.

Celestia’s eyes narrowed. ”Stop teleporting behind me.”

”It’s not teleporting,” Nyla said, appearing to her left. ”It’s skipping.”

Celestia struck the place where she had been. ”Stop skipping behind me.”

Runar watched from a distance. ”Her spatial displacement is incomplete. She is skipping through intention rather than distance. If she stabilizes the exit point, it will become usable.”

Celestia dodged another skip and looked toward him. ”Can you stabilize her?”

”I can,” Runar said. ”But she will learn more if she stabilizes it herself.”

Nyla appeared above them. ”I’m learning!”

Celestia looked up. ”You are also falling.”

Nyla looked down, realized she had skipped into empty air, and fell with a short scream before Runar adjusted the local gravity just enough to slow her descent. She landed in a heap of gold-and-crimson light, blinked, and then grinned.

”I did it.”

Celestia stood over her. ”You fell.”

”I arrived.”

Celestia turned to Runar. ”She is impossible.”

Runar’s eyes held a faint trace of warmth. ”She is improving.”

Between the serious sessions of training and travel, quieter moments filled the spaces.

They shared meals in strange universes — sometimes simple food prepared with local ingredients, sometimes nothing more than spiritual energy condensed into form. In one universe where fruits grew as small glowing lanterns, Nyla insisted on cooking something despite having no real need to eat. The result was a dish that sparkled, hummed, and occasionally tried to float off the plate. Celestia ate it with careful dignity. Runar ate it without expression. Nyla declared it a success because it ”tasted like curiosity.”

Celestia replied that it tasted like a mistake with good intentions.

They argued casually about which direction to take next. Nyla pushed for the more chaotic option, usually because it sounded interesting. Celestia preferred the one with clearer structure, usually because it sounded survivable. Runar listened to both, considered their arguments, and then chose a third path that served both of them.

This happened so often that Nyla eventually noticed.

”You do this on purpose,” she accused one evening as they stood at the edge of a starfield where three possible routes shimmered in the void.

Runar looked at her. ”Do what?”

”You wait for us to argue, then pick the one neither of us suggested.”

Celestia nodded slowly. ”She is right. You did it in the crystal sea. You did it in the singing desert. You did it in the realm with the angry mirrors.”

Runar considered the accusation. ”The third option usually contains the benefits of both.”

Nyla pointed at him. ”That is not the point.”

Celestia folded her arms. ”What is the point?”

Runar’s expression remained calm. ”That you are both learning to argue productively.”

Nyla stared at him. Celestia stared at him.

Then Nyla turned to Celestia. ”I think he’s manipulating us.”

Celestia nodded. ”Definitely.”

Runar chose the third route.

There were long silences under unfamiliar skies. Nights spent watching foreign constellations that moved in patterns no mortal astronomer could predict. Mornings where the three of them simply existed in the same place without needing to speak. These moments mattered as much as the breakthroughs. They reminded all three that the road was not only about power. It was about living the years together while the power grew.

In one universe where the stars sang faintly at dusk, Nyla tried to sing back. The stars changed color. Celestia told her not to encourage the universe. Runar said it was already encouraged. Nyla sang a second note, and a nearby moon began glowing pink. Celestia gave up and went to meditate. Runar stayed and listened until the moon learned the melody well enough to repeat it on its own.

In another universe where rain fell upward, they built a small camp on the underside of a floating mountain. Celestia found the arrangement irritating because her tea kept drifting toward the sky. Nyla found it hilarious. Runar adjusted the local gravity around their cups so the tea stayed inside, but did not fix the rest of the environment because he considered the inconvenience useful for training.

Celestia called that revenge.

Runar called it efficiency.

Nyla called for more tea.

As the years passed, their dual cultivation evolved as well. What had once been a method of sharing energy and accelerating progress became a mutual refinement session where all three of them exchanged insight, stabilized each other’s principles, and compressed their foundations together. These sessions were quiet, intimate, and deeply practical. Celestia’s structure helped stabilize Nyla’s creativity. Nyla’s adaptability helped prevent Celestia’s structure from becoming rigid. Runar’s comprehension guided both and received subtle feedback in return.

During one such session, Nyla suddenly opened her eyes.

”I think I understand why you two are terrifying.”

Celestia did not open her eyes. ”We are not terrifying.”

Nyla looked at Runar. ”He is terrifying.”

Runar’s voice remained calm. ”Continue refining.”

Nyla pointed at him without breaking the session. ”That is exactly what a terrifying person would say.”

Celestia’s lips curved slightly. ”Continue refining.”

A decade passed in this rhythm.

By the end of it, both women had made significant progress. Celestia’s storm lattice had become a stable and elegant authority that could impose order across wide regions without waste. Nyla’s curiosity engine had grown sharper and more dangerous, capable of generating new applications in the middle of conflict. Their foundations were denser, cleaner, and far more their own than when the decade began.

One of the final tests of the decade came in a universe filled with dormant war constructs left behind by a forgotten civilization. The constructs awakened when they entered the region and immediately identified all three of them as threats. Celestia moved first, her storm lattice spreading across the sky and freezing the constructs’ targeting laws into place. Nyla followed by adapting to their combat patterns in real time, creating counters before they could finish their attack sequences.

Runar did not intervene.

He watched Celestia dismantle a formation of constructs with precise, economical authority. He watched Nyla turn a broken construct’s own weapon system against its allies by rewriting the meaning of its attack mid-flight. He watched them coordinate without speaking, covering each other’s weaknesses with the ease of people who had spent years learning how the other thought.

When the last construct fell, Celestia turned to him.

”Well?”

Runar gave a single nod. ”Acceptable.”

Nyla groaned. ”That’s the highest praise he gives.”

Celestia looked satisfied anyway. ”It is enough.”

Runar observed the changes in them with quiet satisfaction.

He also noticed something else.

Teaching them — reshaping their principles, answering their questions, watching them succeed and occasionally fail — refined his own understanding in subtle ways. Absolute Comprehension had already finished the Multiverse, yet the act of translating that complete knowledge into forms his wives could absorb still produced small, precise improvements in control and application. Origin Weave responded in kind, generating cleaner structures when he adapted them for someone else’s path.

He did not need the Multiverse anymore.

But walking beside Celestia and Nyla still made him sharper.

As the first decade closed, the three of them stood together on the edge of a quiet universe whose laws had already been thoroughly tested and understood. Celestia’s storm lattice rested calmly around her. Nyla’s curiosity engine hummed with restrained eagerness for the next challenge. Runar remained as he always was — steady, present, and in no hurry.

Nyla looked at the horizon and smiled. ”So. Next decade?”

Celestia glanced at her. ”Try not to break anything immediately.”

Nyla placed a hand over her heart. ”I make no promises.”

Runar looked at both of them, then at the road ahead.

The road was still long.

They would walk it together.
