Myriad Heavens: Rise of the Rune God

Chapter 305: Chapter 306: Devouring the Will 4

The Will tried to scream, but the mindscape did not allow it. The golden-white structures had already sealed the space around its remaining core, and the runic simulation of devouring was accelerating with every word it spoke. Its threats, its offers, and its begging were all being converted into fuel, because even its desperation carried information. Even its fear carried memory. Even its desire to survive revealed the structure of its soul, and that structure was now being read by the one person it should never have tried to deceive.

Runar’s consciousness continued to rise.

He could feel himself changing. Not just growing stronger, but becoming more complete. The principles he had absorbed were not sitting inside him as foreign treasures; they were being woven into his own understanding, refined by his Heaven-Defying Comprehension, and integrated into the runic foundation that had always been his true strength. The Eye of Myriad Truths burned brighter than ever before, because it was no longer merely observing reality. It was being fed by the authority of the being that had once governed the trial. The dual halos around his heart and brain spun in perfect harmony, and a faint third resonance began to form between them, not as a new halo, but as a bridge connecting his physical foundation to his spiritual foundation.

The enlightenment outside his body continued as well, but it had changed. The chaotic manifestations of space, time, and elements around his physical form were becoming more orderly, more stable, and more obedient. They no longer erupted randomly from the broken battlefield. They circulated around him like subjects circling a throne, responding to the growing authority inside his soul. The battlefield itself seemed to hesitate around him, as though the layer recognized that a new intelligence was beginning to claim the rights that the Ancient Will had abandoned.

Deep in the process of devouring, Runar’s awareness suddenly brushed against something hidden.

For the first time since the absorption began, he paused.

The hidden thing was not a memory, nor was it a loose fragment of knowledge. It was a sealed core, buried at the very center of the Ancient Will’s existence and protected by layers of runic encryption so old and so profound that even the Will itself had not been able to fully open them. The seal carried the unmistakable signature of the Rune Sovereign, not as a living presence, but as an absolute command left behind at the moment of creation. It was a lock that could not be broken by force, a lock that required either the Sovereign’s own authority or a comprehension deep enough to read the logic behind it.

Runar’s eyes sharpened.

He had expected the Ancient Will to carry valuable knowledge. He had expected memories, principles, and control over the Reliquary. What he had not expected was to find something deliberately hidden even from the Will itself. His comprehension moved around the sealed core carefully, reading the outer layers without trying to force them open, and the more he read, the more his expression changed.

The Will felt his attention land on the sealed core, and its remaining consciousness went still.

”No,” it whispered. ”Not that. Anything but that.”

Runar did not answer immediately. His mind was already working through the structure of the seal, comparing it to the fragments of the Sovereign’s research he had absorbed earlier, and using the Will’s own runic authority as a key. The process was not fast, but it was steady. Every piece of the Will he had already devoured gave him another angle to read from. Every memory he had absorbed gave him another clue. Every principle he had integrated gave him another tool. The sealed core, which had been designed to resist the Will’s greed, was now being opened because the Will itself had been eaten by someone whose comprehension surpassed the Will’s limitations.

Then the truth revealed itself.

Inside the sealed core was a complete copy of the Rune Sovereign’s inheritance.

Not a fragment. Not a clue. Not a partial record. A complete copy.

It contained the Sovereign’s final research into runic law, his theories on ascending beyond the Multiverse, his observations on principles beyond the known tiers, his methods for constructing self-sustaining runic realities, and his private notes on what lay beyond the Paragon realm. It also contained the true control grammar of the Reliquary, the hidden protocols that could unlock the deepest chambers, and the conditions required to claim the legacy left behind for a worthy successor. The Ancient Will had carried this inheritance all along, but it had never been allowed to access it fully. It had been designed to guard the inheritance, not to possess it.

Runar’s lips curved into a faint, cold smile.

This was not the smile of triumph. It was the smile of someone who had searched for the most important key in the Reliquary and discovered that his enemy had delivered it directly into his hands. The inheritance he had come for, the legacy he had risked everything to claim, and the knowledge he had needed to secure his future had been hidden inside the very being that tried to steal his body. If the Will had remained detached, if it had stayed in control of the Reliquary, and if it had never entered Runar’s mindscape, he might have needed days or even weeks to force the inheritance open. Now it was falling into him on its own.

”This saves me a lot of trouble,” Runar said.

The Ancient Will’s remaining consciousness shook. It had no body, no face, and no eyes, yet its terror was unmistakable. It had spent countless cycles guarding the inheritance, scheming to use it, and dreaming of one day claiming it for itself. Now, at the very end, it realized that its greed had delivered the inheritance to the one person it should never have approached. The irony was so cruel that it almost felt like a punishment designed by the Rune Sovereign himself.

Runar’s gaze softened slightly, but there was no mercy in it. There was only completion.

”Thank you, Will,” he said. ”You have served a great purpose.”

The last remnant of the Ancient Will was pulled into the golden-white light.

It did not scream. It did not beg. It did not threaten. In its final fragmented moments, every calculation it had ever made collapsed into a single coherent thought, and that thought was regret. Regret for choosing Runar as a vessel. Regret for entering the mindscape. Regret for believing that enlightenment meant vulnerability. Regret for underestimating a being whose greatest weapon had never been power, but comprehension. Regret for every decision that had led it into the mouth of the one existence it could never devour.

Then the regret faded as well.

The Ancient Will of the Reliquary was erased.

Not killed in the ordinary sense, but completely unmade. Its authority became Runar’s authority. Its memories became Runar’s memories. Its knowledge became Runar’s knowledge. Its fear became a lesson buried in the depths of his understanding. Its existence became part of the foundation that would carry him forward. Nothing remained of it except the changes it had caused, and even those changes now belonged to him.

The mindscape fell silent.

Runar stood alone at the center of his own soul, golden-white light cascading through his consciousness like a river that had finally found its proper course. The newly absorbed knowledge and principles continued to settle around him, fusing with his own path and reshaping his understanding in ways that would take time to fully stabilize. He did not rush the process. He had learned long ago that true comprehension could not be forced, especially when it involved this much truth. He simply stood there and allowed the harvest to integrate, feeling every fragment of the Ancient Will become part of the person it had tried to destroy.

Around him, the mindscape transformed.

The golden-white structures grew more intricate, more stable, and more profound. Spatial folds connected regions of his consciousness with effortless precision. Time settled into a rhythm that obeyed his awareness rather than external pressure. Elemental laws formed quiet constellations at the edges of his soul. Runes drifted through the air with a new sense of purpose, because they now carried fragments of the Reliquary’s true grammar. The sealed core of the Rune Sovereign’s inheritance hovered near the center of his being, partially opened and slowly revealing its contents as his comprehension proved itself capable of receiving them.

Outside the mindscape, the physical battlefield had begun to change as well.

The broken space-time around the Pseudo-Paragon guardian was still collapsing, and the Mysterious Woman was still pressing her attack with terrifying precision, but the layer itself had started reacting differently to Runar’s presence. The chaotic protocols that had been activating at random began to calm near him. The residual laws of the trial stopped treating him as a participant and started treating him as something else entirely. The void around his body became smoother, the broken space-time became less hostile, and the manifestations swirling around him began to align with his breathing as though the Reliquary itself was learning to recognize a new master.

None of that mattered to Runar yet.

Inside his soul, he was still standing in the quiet aftermath of the greatest victory he had achieved since entering the Reliquary. The Ancient Will had been the hidden predator of the trial, the intelligence behind every test, the watcher that had measured them all from the beginning. It had been dangerous, ancient, and patient. It had planned to use him, possess him, and erase him when the time was right.

Now it had become his greatest harvest.

Runar slowly opened his eyes.

The golden-white light within them no longer looked restrained. It looked deep. It looked sovereign. It looked like the gaze of someone who had devoured the ruler of a ruin and taken the first true step toward claiming everything inside it.

The Enlightenment had not ended.

It had only found its final shape.
