Myriad Heavens: Rise of the Rune God

Chapter 337: Chapter 338: Ready

The final barrier stood in front of them.

It was not made of energy or hostile laws. It was quieter than that. Celestia and Nyla could both feel it clearly now — a thin, invisible line between the power they already held and the ability to exist outside the Multiverse without being erased by higher reality. Their foundations were dense. Their souls were stable. But this last step required something more complete.

Runar stood nearby and said nothing at first. He did not reach out to break the barrier for them. He only watched, calm and steady, making sure neither of them would fall at the last moment.

They do not need me to open the door, he thought. They only need to know I am here while they open it themselves.

Celestia went first.

She sat in the center of the pocket dimension, hands resting loosely on her knees. Her storm lattice had already grown elegant and precise over the decades, but now it needed to become something that could stand on its own beyond every familiar law. She closed her eyes and let the structure settle deeper.

The auroras overhead slowed their drift. The spiritual grass bent slightly, as though the dimension itself was leaning in to watch.

Celestia did not push. She did not force. She simply let the lattice find its final shape the way a river finds the sea — not through struggle, but through the quiet certainty of something reaching the place it was always meant to be.

There was no explosion.

The breakthrough came like a throne being placed in the correct position. The lattice completed itself. Every thread of order, control, and quiet authority locked into place and became self-sustaining. Celestia felt the change clearly. Her existence no longer needed the Multiverse to remain stable. She could carry her own law with her.

I can do this, she thought, and the thought carried no doubt. I am ready.

When she opened her eyes, her presence felt quieter than before, but far heavier. The air around her seemed to arrange itself without being asked. The auroras resumed their drift, but their patterns shifted slightly to accommodate the new gravity of her existence.

She looked at her hands. They looked the same. They felt different.

Nyla’s turn came soon after.

She did not sit still for long. Her curiosity engine had always preferred movement, so she stood and let it rise. The breakthrough was louder in feeling, even if the pocket dimension itself stayed calm. Possibility unfolded inside her like a living map, each new path branching and connecting in ways she had never seen before.

The engine ignited fully, becoming a principle of adaptation and creative evolution that could change shape without losing its core. It did not lock into a fixed structure the way Celestia’s lattice had. Instead, it became something fluid — a foundation that could reshape itself to match whatever reality it encountered without ever forgetting what it was.

Nyla laughed under her breath as the final pieces locked in. The sound was bright and free. Her foundation did not turn rigid. It became flexible in a way that could survive higher realities. She felt endless doors opening inside her own soul, and for once none of them felt dangerous.

I am not behind anymore, she thought. I can walk beside them.

The two breakthroughs happened close together, almost in rhythm. Decades of shared refinement made the difference. Celestia’s new stability gave Nyla something solid to lean against while her engine settled. Nyla’s living adaptability kept Celestia’s completed lattice from growing too still. Runar’s presence rested over both of them like a quiet anchor, never controlling, only supporting.

He watched Celestia’s storm lattice find its final form and felt a small, private satisfaction. He had given her the first thread of that structure decades ago. She had made it into something he could never have designed himself.

He watched Nyla’s curiosity engine ignite and felt something similar. Her path was wilder than Celestia’s, harder to predict, and full of choices he would not have made. That was exactly why it worked.

When it was finished, the pocket dimension felt different. Two new kinds of weight now existed inside it. The auroras drifted a little slower. The spiritual grass grew a little stiller. The dimension itself seemed to recognize that something fundamental had changed.

Celestia let out a slow breath and looked at her hands again. Nyla stretched her arms above her head and grinned the way she always did when she had just accomplished something she was proud of but refused to take too seriously.

”Well,” Nyla said, turning toward Runar. ”You finally get to keep that promise.”

Runar’s expression stayed calm, but there was a small warmth in his eyes. ”Yes.”

Celestia moved closer and sat beside him. Her smile was softer and more open than usual. ”We are ready.”

”You are,” Runar agreed.

Nyla dropped onto the grass on his other side, still grinning. ”So. Ascension. Leaving the Multiverse. Stepping into whatever comes next.” She paused. ”That’s a lot.”

”It is,” Celestia said.

”And we’re doing it together.”

”Yes.”

Nyla leaned back on her hands and looked up at the auroras. ”Good. I was going to say it would be very annoying if you two left without me after all this.”

Celestia gave her a look. ”We would never.”

”I know. But I was going to say it anyway.”

Runar watched them both with the quiet expression he wore when he was content but did not feel the need to announce it. They had spent decades reaching this point. They had earned the right to sit here and breathe without urgency.

They stayed together for a while without speaking much. There was no grand ceremony. No loud celebration. Just the three of them sitting in the familiar light of the pocket dimension, feeling the completed foundations settle. Nyla leaned against Runar’s shoulder and poked his arm once.

”You waited a long time,” she said.

”I said I would.”

”I know. Still.” She smiled sideways at him. ”Thank you.”

Celestia nodded once. ”Thank you.”

Runar accepted the words the same way he accepted most important things — quietly, without making them heavier than they needed to be.

After some time he spoke again.

”Before we leave the Multiverse, we should return to Willith’s Universe.”

Both women understood at once. This was not about duty. It was about saying goodbye properly.

Celestia’s expression grew thoughtful. ”Home.”

Nyla sat up straighter. ”Your parents. The others.”

”Yes,” Runar said. ”We should visit them one last time and say goodbye.”

No one argued. The decision felt natural. They had walked decades together to reach this point. Leaving without seeing the people who had once been their beginning would have felt incomplete.

Celestia looked at Runar carefully. ”Will it be difficult?”

He considered the question. ”No. But it will be final.”

She nodded slowly. She understood what that meant. Going back one last time meant accepting that they would not go back again. It meant closing a door gently instead of leaving it open forever.

Nyla was quiet for a moment, which was unusual enough that Celestia glanced at her. ”Are you alright?”

Nyla nodded. ”Yeah. Just thinking. I never had a home like that. Not really. But watching you with them...” She trailed off, then shrugged. ”It was nice. I’m glad we’re going back.”

Celestia reached over and squeezed her hand briefly. Nyla squeezed back.

They spent a short while preparing — nothing dramatic, only the quiet actions of people who already knew the road ahead. Celestia adjusted the last threads of her lattice until everything felt clean. Nyla tested the new flexibility of her engine with a few small experiments and looked satisfied when they produced exactly the results she expected. Runar simply waited, already certain of the next step.

When they were ready, the three of them stood together in the center of the pocket dimension. The auroras drifted overhead one last time. The spiritual grass swayed gently. The familiar warmth of the place they had called home for decades settled around them like a farewell.

Celestia looked around the dimension one final time. She did not say goodbye aloud. She simply acknowledged it, the way she acknowledged all things that had mattered.

Nyla stretched one more time and grinned. ”Alright. Let’s go see the family.”

Runar turned his awareness toward the distant coordinates of Willith’s Universe. The Multiverse stretched out before him, silent and familiar, no longer a mystery to be solved but a road he was finally ready to leave.

The threshold of ascension waited beyond it.

But first, they would go home.
