Chapter 1299: Chapter 1300: Bloodbath at the Bandit’s Den

But no matter how much Gong Juechen pleaded, Ye Zhi still had no reaction whatsoever, remaining unconscious.

...

Early the next day, An Jing checked on Ye Zhi first. Seeing that she still hadn’t woken up, she sighed, but didn’t say anything, then went to train the troops.

The training of new recruits must not stop.

With Ye Zhi in this condition, even if she woke up, she would need time to recover from her injuries. Therefore, An Jing temporarily appointed Tobanya, who had always been the best performer among the new recruits, as her assistant to help her train the troops every day.

Fortunately, there were no new training programs recently, just repeated practice of already taught exercises, so Tobanya was very adept at being an assistant.

On the second day of Ye Zhi’s coma, at noon, Meng Zhuqing came to report to An Jing and Xiao Changyi about the bandits of Everlasting Mountain.

”The bandits from Everlasting Mountain appeared out of nowhere six months ago. They commit all kinds of evil acts. If they can rob, they rape, they kill; their swords and knives are particularly sharp, and they are also skilled in martial arts. The nearby commoners are too afraid to pass through Everlasting Mountain and make detours for fear of encountering them.”

An Jing was furious at the bandits’ behavior – they were not humans; they were beasts!

”Has the government not dealt with them?” An Jing asked.

Meng Zhuqing said, ”The government sent attacks a few times at first, but those ended in defeat. Afterwards, the government stopped intervening. The Count of Mo Shi County, fearing that the bandit issue would affect his career, failed to report the presence of such evil bandits in Everlasting Mountain in Mo Shi County, resulting in their growing audacity.”

An Jing angrily said: ”Is his own career more important or is the safety of the common people more important? That County Magistrate should not be in his position!”

When she said this, An Jing had already made up her mind. She was going to tell Su Chengyu about this and urge Su Chengyu to punish that County Magistrate. For his own selfish desires, he had allowed countless innocents to lose their lives!

Because An Jing was busy with military training and couldn’t enter the palace, she instructed Xiao Changyi to go to the palace and report the matter to Su Chengyu.

When Su Chengyu heard about the bandits, he was furiously enraged, first dismissing the Count of Mo Shi County from his position and detaining him in the prison awaiting trial, then deploying 2,000 soldiers under the command of Qi Tengfei, General Qi’s eldest son, Qi Gaoda, to exterminate the bandits.

But just as Qi Gaoda had mobilized 2,000 soldiers, he received news that the Everlasting Mountain bandits had been completely annihilated, all 136 of them dead, without a single survivor.

Originally prepared to show his prowess, Qi Gaoda: ”...”

An Jing and Xiao Changyi also learned about the overnight massacre of the Everlasting Mountain bandit den from Meng Zhuqing, and they were both very surprised.

In the span of one night, not only was the bandit stronghold taken down, but not a single survivor was left, and they didn’t even know who was behind it...

This...

They couldn’t help but feel there was something amiss with the situation.

Just like An Jing and Xiao Changyi, Meng Zhuqing also felt that something was off, but he still carried on reporting dutifully: ”The Death Investigator has examined the bodies and found that several people died under suspicious circumstances. They were killed instantly by a very fine and very short silver needle that struck their hearts.”

”Silver needle?” For some reason, upon hearing about the silver needle, An Jing and Xiao Changyi simultaneously thought of Gong Juechen.

”This is the silver needle that the Death Investigator found in the heart of the corpses,” Meng Zhuqing stated, showing An Jing and Xiao Changyi the silver needle.

The silver needle was indeed very thin and small.

Xiao Changyi had an expressionless face.

An Jing’s brow furrowed.

”There’s more...” Suddenly, Meng Zhuqing hesitated.

An Jing said, ”If you have something to say, just speak up. There’s no need to be hesitant.”
