Chapter 1292: Chapter 1293: Leg Cramp

An Jing said, ”Carrying a burden of forty taels.”

The new recruits: ”...” This is deadly...

...

As the appointed hour arrived, An Jing and Ye Zhi led out of the camp ten female soldiers each burdened with forty taels.

An Jing and Ye Zhi both led a horse; these were for them to ride on the road. They were instructors, and they needed to conserve their strength to train the new recruits with more energy every day.

Moreover, it was now a cross-country march for the new recruits, which means carrying a heavy load for a long distance, something that doesn’t require their instruction, so they didn’t need to carry a load and walk like the new recruits.

Xiao Changyi, accompanied by Meng Zhuqing and Qin Yi, joined An Jing and the others on the cross-country march. Of course, Xiao Changyi, Meng Zhuqing, and Qin Yi were also on horseback.

Having been targeted by assassins twice before, Xiao Changyi’s greatest fear now was being attacked again; therefore, he definitely couldn’t set his mind at ease with An Jing leading the recruits out of the camp on her own and naturally followed along to protect her.

This cross-country march had a starting point at the women’s military camp and the end point in Ru Xi County, with a total distance of fifty kilometers.

For the first fifteen kilometers, Liu Feifei and Ting Shu could barely keep up, but gradually, they began to fall behind and ended up dropping out together.

”Boss, let me take care of them.”

Training soldiers was a very serious matter in the eyes of An Jing and Ye Zhi; spotting someone falling behind, and as an instructor, An Jing could not afford to lag. With concern for the lagging Liu Feifei and Ting Shu, Ye Zhi thus spoke up.

”Okay,” agreed An Jing without objection.

At nearly nineteen kilometers, Shi Hua and Baoqin also fell behind, and An Jing asked Qin Yi to look after them.

After twenty-four kilometers, Su Chengyuan and Lie Qi started to lag, and An Jing tasked Meng Zhuqing with their care.

Both An Jing and Xiao Changyi were quite surprised that Su Chengyuan managed to carry on for twenty-four kilometers before falling behind.

The Su Chengyuan of today had truly changed a lot.

Moreover, they discovered that Su Chengyuan’s potential was incredibly vast; it was a matter of whether they could unlock it.

Tuoba Yao, Du Aya, Shi Shi, and Li Wuyu did not fall out and maintained a stable performance, keeping their first, second, third, and fourth positions respectively, all the way to the finish line.

Tuoba Yao reached the finish line in just four hours, while Du Aya, Shi Shi, and Li Wuyu, though behind Tuoba Yao, were only a few minutes apart from each other.

An Jing had sent someone to Ru Xi County the day before to arrange a resting place so that right upon their arrival, Tuoba Yao and the others could rest.

It was now time for lunch, yet Tuoba Yao and the others didn’t rush to eat as they were too tired; they decided to rest well before eating.

An Jing set the time limit at four and a half hours, with departure at the hour of Chen, so arriving before a quarter to noon was considered qualified.

Su Chengyuan arrived just a bit before a quarter to noon, whereas Lie Qi arrived just a bit after the mark.

In other words, apart from Tuoba Yao, Du Aya, Shi Shi, Li Wuyu, and Su Chengyuan, who arrived on time, all the others did not make it on time.

Upon arrival, Lie Qi, seeing she missed the time by so little, felt it was a pity but soon accepted it.

When Su Chengyuan arrived, she suddenly experienced leg cramps that were so painful that her eyes turned red. An Jing rushed over and knelt down to help relieve Su Chengyuan’s leg cramps.

After a while, Su Chengyuan’s legs stopped cramping, but by then, her tears still involuntarily fell.
