COTE: A Man On A Mission || Love is War?

Sakayanagi always feels that Yukinoshita is a little different from ordinary students.

She seems to be keeping people at a distance, like a flower on a mountain top.

But she doesn’t seem difficult to conquer either.

Sakayanagi even thought that as long as he could break through ice in Yukinoshita’s heart, he would become an important person to her.

Yukinoshita’s family is clearly aware of this.

Sakayanagi feels there is no need to worry about this sister Yukinoshita.

’Because Hikigaya-kun is not interested in high school romance, especially not a junior who will graduate a year later than him..’

So instead of worrying, Sakayanagi thinks that other party should be relieved, because as long as it is not a romantic factor, Hikigaya-kun can guide her little sister.

”Have you been waiting for a long time?” Hachiman walked to the side of Yukinoshita Haruno.

”Not too long, just 5 minutes and 24 seconds.” Haruno said calmly while looking at lady’s watch on her left hand. But time she said was so shocking.

It’s like you are living in a prison and counting days.

”...!” At this moment, Sakayanagi suddenly turned around and glanced at the two of them.

She suddenly felt that her inference seemed to be wrong. ’Because this Yukinoshita doesn’t seem to be approaching Hikigaya-kun just for her sister!’

Sakayanagi took kitten to keep watch.

Hikigaya-kun took Yukinoshita Haruno to shopping district.

”What a lively scene.” She followed Hikigaya past the small fountain and came to famous area of juniors.

She was a little surprised to see neon lights in front of her as night fell.

Because this is not a street, this is a school.

The supporting facilities are so good.

”If we were alone, I would probably take you to the railing or teaching building. There’s no one there now. But you’ve been waiting for me, and you haven’t eaten yet, so let’s go to the shopping street and have dinner first.”

”Oh.” Only then did Haruno realize this Hikigaya-senpai of Yukino seemed to be quite considerate.

KFC.

Although it is Thursday, not many people come to KFC today.

Most students are busy all day and finally choose to eat in the nearby cafeteria, or choose to reward themselves for their hard work today and then go to other expensive looking stores.

So when Hikigaya and Haruno arrived at KFC, there wasn’t even a line to pick up their food.

”How about spicy wings and Coke?”

Hikigaya Hachiman brought food to the table where Haruno was.

It should be said that she is a beautiful girl of Yukinoshita Yukino’s level.

Even though there are only a few customers in store, they are curious about Haruno.

”I’m not picky. After all, it was Hikigaya-kun who invited me, so no matter what we eat, it’s my win.”

”.....” Hikigaya Hachiman’s lonely aura seemed to be deflated and giving red signals for moving away from her.

The two of them had only met once, but other party was so good at making friends.

”So....” Hachiman sat opposite.

Of course, she is different from his sister Komachi, but he is used to seeing Horikita Suzune or Yukinoshita Yukino.

’And now facing Haruno, I should be able to resist... right? But this is level of lively Yukinoshita or Horikita Suzune. A gentle wink or a slight blush at the right time for you makes a big difference. You always feel like other person is seducing you. This is equivalent to the ice in Yukinoshita or Horikita melting, and the huge contrast will make people a little confused. So to speak....In terms of being likable, Kushida-chan, you lose. You lose to Yukinoshita Haruno in front of you.’ Hikigaya-kun thought to himself.

”Since I stayed here without your permission and made things difficult for Hikigaya-kun.” It was Haruno a guest took the initiative to speak, ”So if Hikigaya-kun has any questions, you can ask me.”

”Then will you answer it seriously?”

”No.”

”.....” Hachiman.

”.....” Haruno realised instantly what kind of category this person belongs from.

The topic seemed to have died suddenly. It’s awesome.

’Is this the sister that you, Yukinoshita, are talking about? Now the topic between us ends here! Or maybe, Yukinoshita, your elder sister is testing me. Do you think I am the type who always ends conversation?’ Ah this, Hikigaya-kun found that he couldn’t refute.

Suzune is not good at communicating with others, and Hachiman is the same.

To be more precise, there is a feeling that people with different ideas cannot work together.

”Hikigaya-kun, aren’t you curious about why I can stay here now? All the off-campus guests like me have gone back now. Among them, many have more prestige and power than my family, but they seem to have been unable to stay.”

”O O” Hachiman felt like she was trying to save her face, make herself big, so he thought over the other person’s words to not make her feel embarrassed and asked, ”Then why can you stay?”

”Yeah.” Haruno nodded with an appreciative look, eyes narrowed happily as he noticed hints, ”Actually, I was waiting for Hikigaya-kun to ask that. So how do you think I did that?First of all, I didn’t use my family’s power. Or rather, my family is useless even in this place. We only have a say in Chiba.”

’She was the one who clearly said that if I had any questions I could ask her, but she did the opposite.... But this girl is not simple. At the beginning, she introduced herself and said that her family was powerful and influential, and then pointed out that other party was considered a wealthy family in Chiba. And where is Chiba?’

This is where Hikigaya Hachiman comes from.

’In other words, this Haruno Yukinoshita is treating me with same approach as she would treat people in society. That’s really too much.’ Because Hikigaya-kun never thought about working after graduation.

But now he is treated like a member of society?

”Miss Yukinoshita-” Hachiman began to call out on her.

”You can call me Haruno.”

”Miss Haruno.”

Called her again.

”Eh...it’s really not cute.” Haruno said, and then seemed to sit forward a little.

’But because the seat is opposite me, Miss Haruno, you can’t come over now.....’

Although thinking so, Hachiman said without a break in his voice, remaining calm, ”When Yukinoshita and I met you, you took 100,000 yen voucher from Yukinoshita, right? Then I noticed that at end of the stadium, although you came to watch the show, your seat was only at the back, with 30,000 vouchers. Your own 100,000 plus the 100,000 you got from your sister, that’s 200,000, enough for you to buy a front seat at 50,000. Plus, you’re the older sister of performer Yukinoshita, so I think the staff will give you this much face.”

”Yeah...then, what do you want to say, Hikigaya-kun?” But Haruno maintained a polite smile, as if she was interviewing him.

”And now you can still stay in this school. According to rules, guests have to leave at 5 o’clock. But you’re still here. Either there’s something wrong with school’s rules and Chairman violated, or...”

”Or what?” Haruno looked at him with clear eyes, it seems to be trying to pressuring.

But Hachiman recited his chants of not being attractive and gloomy.

Sheep 1 Sheep 2....

”Either you are taking advantage of the rules of this school. You used the vouchers, collected enough and submitted them to Chairman, and then you got the permission to stay in this school temporarily.”

”Hey, That’s a good idea indeed.” She clapped her white hands, looked very cream-like, ”Your school is quite interesting. But, unfortunately, what about the rules and coupons, do you have any evidence? I might have spent a lot of money at various stalls, and then I ran out, so I bought a not-so-good seat or something like that. After all, I’m already a college student, so it’s a rare opportunity to experience the cultural festival of high school students. I must seize it.”

”It is indeed possible, but I don’t think so.”

”Why?”

”Because from the student dormitory till now, a teacher has been following us. To be precise, other party seems to be following you.”

Then he looked in one direction, which was the entrance to KFC seat.

A female teacher had her back to them.

But other party didn’t order anything, which was a bit conspicuous.

Haruno knew that this female teacher was arranged by Chairman Sakayanagi to confirm the time she would leave school.

A supervisor.

But her heart also became calm.

It turns out that reason Hikigaya came to the shopping street from student dormitory was not because he wanted to be gentlemanly and considerate, but to confirm whether the female teacher was the one who was staring at her.

Now other party has come to this conclusion and realized that she can only stay in this school temporarily and will have to leave.

’You’re really not cute, Hikigaya-kun. Eyes don’t seem to travel or say much, but it’s like you are recording everything. Tired & Dead eyes to be if I had to describe.....’ Miss Yukinoshita Haruno then began to pout and devour the spicy and grilled wings and cola in front of her.

But after all, she is a good-looking person, and even the way girl eats is cute.

Of course, Hikigaya-kun had already looked away and started to finish his own portion of spicy wings.

Even though he has eaten it many times, he still feels nostalgic. KFC’s super tender chicken wings wrapped in deep fry are delicious.

Especially wing roots.

Five minutes to go.

The two of them finished their dinner.

Haruno took out a tissue and gently wiped her mouth, returning to her image of a cute big sister.

But she also confirmed the time.

It’s 6:33.

There were only twenty-seven minutes left until she was due to leave school, ”Hikigaya-kun does sound special.”

Hachiman knew that other party was finally showing her cards.

”Actually, I spent all the 500,000 vouchers just to be able to stay in this school for two hours.”

’A voucher of 500,000 yen. You clearly only had 100,000 yen, and you swindled another 100,000 from your sister. Even if you knew Miss Hiratsuka, the maximum you... had was 300,000 yen. But you both bought tickets to watch the show, so in the end you got an extra voucher worth nearly 300,000 yen. Being able to accomplish this in such a short time is truly remarkable. I will probably mourn for victims later.’ Hachiman decided to offer flowers before going to bed.

”Shizuka graduated from this school. She and I are friends. Although I don’t know much about rules here, I roughly know it focuses on competition to select the best. I have also investigated students of this school... There are 160 enrolled, but only about 30 to 40 students graduate each year. I guess the competition is fierce. Of course, I will do this. The main reason is that I was invited by this school in past. The principal of my junior high school was willing to recommend me, but I refused.”

It turned into her own life story.

”Because I am the eldest daughter of Yukinoshita family. My father is a county councillor in Chiba Prefecture. Well, this position is hereditary. And my mother is President of a construction company. So as for the family, it can be considered to be ranked relatively high in Chiba. And I will probably be heir of the family in the future. Since I am the heir, I can’t do whatever I want. Of course I can’t come to this closed school.”

”I still don’t understand the specific reason you called me here.”

”Hikigaya-kun. Before you entered this school, you were hospitalized because of a leg injury.”

”.....” Hachiman felt like his bio data had gotten too much public.
