Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 798: Chapter 493: Swarm in the Night (4,600 words!)_3

That’s probably because after planting her treehouse, she didn’t cut down the surrounding treehouses.

So, when the jungle grew lush again, the canopies of these trees merged with Zeng Tao’s treehouse.

Without the sunlight as a barrier, her treehouse naturally was infested with a large number of insects, just like the other trees.

But...

Watching the insects now trying to fly out of and crawl from the jungle, Xu Xin felt his heart sink.

The main treehouse has sunlight as a hundred-meter barrier during the day, making it unafraid of insect attacks, but at night there is none!

These insects might attack his treehouse at night!

Didn’t expect this summer heat to be so hard to endure!

High temperatures during the day, insect swarms at night!

However...

If he closes the windows, maybe it won’t be a big problem?

After all, with the sun rising tomorrow morning, most of the insects around the treehouse will naturally be eliminated, right?

Just as he thought of this, suddenly, strange and thin noises began to emerge from the jungle.

”Creak creak...”

”Creak creak...”

The sound grew louder and gradually rivaled the insect buzzes!

”Ah! These insects on the tree trunks are gnawing on the trunks!” Lou Fei’Er suddenly pointed at the tree trunks in the jungle and screamed.

Xu Xin focused his gaze.

Sure enough!

Those insects clinging to the tree trunks, each one was trembling slightly and moving!

”Creak creak...”

The sound came from all directions in the jungle!

A few trees completely covered with insects started losing their bark at a speed visible to the naked eye, exposing the trunks within seconds!

Then, in a flash, they were gnawed thinner and thinner!

Immediately after, swarms of flying insects suddenly rushed towards the canopies of these gnawed trees, began to frantically chew on the newly sprouted leaves!

”This...!” Xu Xin’s pupils shrank sharply.

These insects can gnaw on trees!

That means they can definitely damage the treehouse!

Everyone present also thought of this problem, and their expressions changed.

”My treehouse!”

Zeng Tao suddenly exclaimed.

”My treehouse is going to be gnawed away!”

Indeed.

Her treehouse probably couldn’t be saved.

But it’s no big deal.

As long as the main treehouse stays intact, the parasitic treehouse can regenerate.

”Is there anything important in your treehouse?” Xu Xin asked.

”Um... no.” Zeng Tao shook her head, ”All the important things are in my backpack. Does a blue-grade bed count as something important?”

”No.” Lou Fei’Er replied from the side, ”We have plenty of blue-grade wood. Don’t worry about your treehouse.”

”Oh, okay.” Zeng Tao also remembered her treehouse could regenerate, so she didn’t mind, ”But these insects can’t just be ignored, can they? Won’t they fly over to gnaw on the main treehouse? Our crossbows can’t defend against these insects!”

That was also what Xu Xin was considering.

Insect swarms...

What to do?

”Bang!”

At this moment, finally, a tree was gnawed down by the insects clinging to its trunk, then the ground insects quickly crawled onto the fallen tree and began gnawing even faster!

And the insects originally on the trunk started quickly making their way to another tree, climbing up and starting to gnaw again!

The gnawing speed was frighteningly fast!

There must be a way to prevent the treehouse from suffering such gnawing!

... There is a way, although not very guaranteed, it can be tried!

He immediately took out a torch from his backpack, scraped its head on the ground to create sparks, then directly ignited it!

In his hand, the torch’s flame and light illuminated the surroundings.

Fire.

This was the method Xu Xin thought of.

Insects generally have phototaxis.

They will fly and crawl towards the light.

Earth’s electric mosquito repellent uses this principle.

Sure enough, when the torch was lit, the insects in the jungle were immediately drawn to it, and large swarms of flying insects tried to fly towards Xu Xin!

”Ah!”

”Quickly toss the torch!” Lou Fei’Er immediately jumped back two steps and shouted.

Xu Xin quickly inserted the torch into a crack on the dry ground, and immediately retreated.

Sure enough, those flying insects flew towards the torch one by one!

Then rushed into the flames, being burned to ashes!

Nevertheless, the surrounding flying insects still pounced towards the nearby light!

Effective!

Xu Xin turned back to look at his treehouse.

His treehouse was powered, at the moment it was brightly lit!

Probably due to the sunlight during the day, most of the insect swarms temporarily dared not rush towards the treehouse, but they were getting closer and closer to it.

The treehouse cannot have lights tonight!

Also, he needs to surround the treehouse with a circle of fire like during the previous treehouse defense against ant swarms.

This way, it might keep the insects from noticing the treehouse!
