Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 796: Chapter 493: Swarm in the Night (4,600 words!)

Finally, Xu Xin could boldly look out the window.

This was the first night since the jungle had returned to lushness.

He hadn’t seen such a flourishing jungle night for a long time.

It always felt a bit unsettling.

After all, beneath this lush jungle, who knows what might be hidden?

He pushed open the window, and a wave of heat rushed in his face.

At this moment, the temperature outside was around forty-two, forty-three degrees.

Such high temperatures were relatively comfortable in this scorching summer.

At this moment, Li Wenxi also came to his side and looked outside, ”The jungle has started to get noisy again.”

Indeed.

In such heat, there weren’t many wild animals active, but insects were starting to wake up.

The sound of cicadas, the chirping of crickets...

A constant flow in the ears.

It even felt a bit noisy.

Summer indeed has more mosquitoes and insects, but at sixty degrees in midday now, it’s surprising these insects can survive such high temperatures; it’s quite a peculiar thing.

Xu Xin closed the window, keeping the heat and insect sounds outside.

The temperature now was still normal.

According to Li Yajun’s description, even if temperature abnormalities occur around, it’s after two in the late night.

If tonight’s situation is similar to last night, it should still be safe for now.

At this point, Lou Fei’Er’s voice was heard from beneath the treehouse.

Along by her side was Jin Yue.

Why did both of them come together?

Xu Xin, puzzled, brought them up into the treehouse.

”Something unusual!” was Lou Fei’Er’s first sentence after coming up, which made Xu Xin’s heart skip.

Both she and Jin Yue had expressions of confusion, somewhat grave.

”What did you discover?” Xu Xin asked.

”Did you encounter any danger?” Li Wenxi also asked with concern.

”We didn’t encounter any danger, but...” Lou Fei’Er frowned tightly, ”There are too many bugs outside!”

Too many bugs?

Xu Xin’s eyes twitched slightly.

He just thought it was peculiar those bugs could survive such high temperatures, and Lou Fei’Er and the others had already focused on the bugs.

”What kind of bugs?” Xu Xin asked, ”Flying bugs?”

”All kinds of bugs,” Lou Fei’Er said, showing a faintly disgusted expression, ”On the ground, the tree trunks, in the canopy, flying in the sky, the jungle is full of insects!”

”Ah?” Li Wenxi immediately got up and ran to the window again to look outside.

Then she let out a slight sigh of relief, ”Thankfully, there aren’t any around the treehouse.”

”There aren’t any around the treehouse right now,” Jin Yue spoke, ”but, the speed at which these bugs appear is too fast.”

Apparently, the two had been taking turns patrolling outside all day, and things had been relatively normal.

The jungle had indeed started buzzing with insects since morning, and there were plenty of flying insects, but it was all within the normal range.

It wasn’t much different from the jungle prior to the falling leaves.

So the two didn’t pay much attention.

However, when the sun was about to set, things suddenly changed.

The number of insect swarms in the jungle suddenly increased!

It was during this half hour when the sun was setting that the number of insect swarms began to rise geometrically!

Now, whereas before you could see an insect with every two steps, now you could step on several!

Even the various tree trunks in the jungle were crawling with various insects, if you reached out to touch, you might squash several!

”Moreover!” Lou Fei’Er felt that she wasn’t well, ”There are also many flying insects! I didn’t use to cover my mouth and face in the jungle, but later I did, I feel like if I opened my mouth, I’d eat a few!”

Saying this, she patted her clothes, showing an utterly forlorn expression.

”Eek—” Li Wenxi shrank her neck and leaned closer to Xu Xin.

That sounds gross!

”Are the insects only in the jungle?” Xu Xin questioned.

He couldn’t see any bugs around the treehouse, only hear insect sounds.

”Yes, before it got dark, these insects were always active in the shadows of the jungle, because they’re afraid of sunlight exposure.” Jin Yue spoke, ”But...”

She turned to look outside the window.

Now, the sky was completely dark.

The sunlight had faded.

Xu Xin understood her meaning.

Now that it’s completely dark, those flying insects probably won’t remain confined to the jungle!

It’s likely they’ll crawl out, fly out!

Coming near the treehouse!

Xu Xin immediately stood up, ”Wenxi, go inform the people below not to try opening the windows, I’ll go down and check!”

”Oh, okay!”

”Keke, do you want to come out with me?”

”Squeak!” Keke jumped a few steps away, shaking its little head vigorously.

Outside wasn’t as comfortable as inside for it.

Xu Xin felt a bit speechless.

This little guy used to always go outside with him whenever he went out, but now, calling it doesn’t work.

Seems like outside is still too hot for it.

Xu Xin didn’t force it, taking Jin Yue and Lou Fei’Er together to go down from the treehouse.

Now that it was dark, he didn’t need to wrap himself too tightly; as for the current temperature, it didn’t bother him at all.

[High Temperature Tolerance] was at work.

There was only about a hundred meters of open space around the treehouse, and the three quickly reached the jungle.
