Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 781: Chapter 488 Enhance Strength (4600 words)

After the extreme heat arrived, the first night descended.

Compared with cold winter nights, although the nights of extreme heat are much cooler than the daytime, they are harder to endure.

After all, during cold winter, survivors can warm themselves with fireplaces, so as long as there’s no other danger, they can sleep comfortably.

But the nights now are different.

How can anyone sleep comfortably at temperatures around forty degrees?

You have to know, on Earth, even if one day reaches temperatures over forty degrees, it’s usually during midday; at night, it drops to the thirties, and in places with large temperature differences, it can even be lower.

So, most nights aren’t actually that hot. Even without air conditioning, you can sleep relatively well.

But now it’s different.

The current situation is that afternoon temperatures reach nearly sixty degrees, and at night it’s around forty!

The nighttime temperature is about the same as noontime on Earth during extreme heat!

This directly drives most people crazy with heat!

”Why is it still so hot at night...”

”Hasn’t the sun already set!”

”I’m really going crazy!”

”God, can someone help me out... I’m going to roast to death...”

”How can they help? Run to your treehouse and fan you?”

”Get someone to install air conditioning for me...”

”You’ve lost your mind from the heat, haven’t you?”

”I feel like I’m going to die tonight... I’ve held on this far...”

The ability of the explorers to cool with saltpeter hasn’t spread, so these people don’t know that over in the explorers’ area, people are happily chatting, playing cards, and playing mahjong in cool treehouses.

After all, those enjoying the cooling and ”constant temperature” capabilities of saltpeter and treehouses on their side have no means to contact the outside, so this news naturally can’t be leaked.

Xu Xin and the others hadn’t planned to leak this news either.

They don’t have the capability to help others right now.

They didn’t even help the people of Zone 188 this time, let alone survivors from other areas.

So, let’s not let them know how comfortable it is on our side.

”Ah, it’s still comfortable in here.” Li Wenxi lay on the sofa, not wanting to move.

She had just returned not long ago.

She was eager to go mining for copper, but as soon as she hit the sofa, she didn’t want to move.

”By the way, up until now, I happened to smelt three pieces of purple-level meteorite iron for you.”

Li Wenxi sat up, took the meteorite iron ore from her backpack, and placed it on the table.

Three pieces of purple-level meteorite iron ore.

”That fast?” Xu Xin raised an eyebrow and stored the meteorite iron.

”Yeah, the smelting time for meteorite iron is really long, so I used three furnaces to work on it.” Li Wenxi lay back on the sofa lazily, ”So I made three pieces. From now on, that’s about the daily amount, since other furnaces have to be used to smelt other metals.”

Indeed.

Steel, iron, and now copper that they can mine in large quantities.

These all need smelting.

And recently the consumption has been high; Li Wenxi’s smelting room hasn’t stopped at all.

Luckily, the extreme heat doesn’t affect the smelting room.

Xu Xin contacted the other explorers, and they hadn’t encountered anything else.

Xu Xin briefly told them there was a monster attack on his side, but he chased it away, and asked them to be vigilant.

Zhao Xiaochuan: ”What? Seriously, a monster attack?!”

Wang Lei: ”Did the giant python from Fox Lake come out again near your treehouse, Brother Xin?”

Xu Xin: ”No, it was a Blood Pattern Giant, but I managed to fend it off, and...”

He told them the whole situation.

Ji Chaoyang: ”So that’s how it is. No wonder, the sound from your side was heard over here.”

Wen Guixin: ”You already have such a strong crossbow! When do we get one too?”

Wen Guixin’s abilities can’t handle giant beasts, so she and the survivors in her care rely more on crossbows to fight back.

Li Wenxi: ”Ah, materials are scarce now, and with this weather, it’s impossible to mine iron from caves. Once resources are abundant, I’ll outfit each of you, but Xu Xin’s is mainly for fighting the giant python.”

The others didn’t have any objections.

After all, the crossbow was developed by Ma Hongwei from Xu Xin’s side, and the resources are acquired through Li Wenxi’s abilities.

Xu Xin: ”Everyone, stay alert tonight. Although this was just an isolated incident, it doesn’t mean there’s no danger; the situation on the first day of extreme heat is unpredictable.”

Ji Chaoyang: ”Indeed, I’ve already warned those in Zone 188 not to go out thinking the temperature will drop tonight.”

Qi Xuefei: ”I have something to tell you all; my herb cultivation has been suspended.”

Herb cultivation suspended?

”Ah?” Li Wenxi, sitting next to Xu Xin, exclaimed in surprise, ”Suspended? I gave Sister Xuefei a lot of saltpeter, didn’t that work?”

Qi Xuefei explained.

She tried using blue-level saltpeter for cooling but...

The herbs need relatively balanced temperatures, but the blue-level saltpeter couldn’t control the temperature evenly.

At midday, the temperature near the saltpeter ice basin is suitable, but slightly further away, the temperature rises significantly, so it would potentially take about a dozen blue-level saltpeters to barely sustain growth.
