Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 785: Chapter 489 Information Isolation! (4500 words)_2

Though the projection did indeed display, but...

Above, it was indeed a dark gray color.

That’s right, just a blank dark gray color.

No interface, no options, nothing at all.

Light specks flickered on the dark gray background, like the snowy screen of an old television.

Li Wenxi tried tapping and swiping several times, but there was no response.

”What the heck is going on?” she muttered to herself, stubbornly tapping a few more times.

Xu Xin frowned slightly.

Could his watch work?

Thinking for a moment, an idea came to his mind.

He immediately sent a voice message to Ji Chaoyang.

The connection was established instantly: ”How is it on your end?”

”I can only contact you and Wenxi.”

”...Seems like my guess was right,” Ji Chaoyang’s voice lowered slightly, ”The range of our treehouse’s communication has inexplicably shrunk significantly; now it can only connect with survivors who are very close by.”

”That seems to be the case.” Xu Xin nodded in agreement and then asked, ”Qi Xuefei is over on your side, right? Can you communicate with her?”

”She’s still asleep; however, her name is dimmed on my end, and I can’t establish contact with her treehouse. Her treehouse is still too far away—I can’t even reach Li Wenxi; let alone her treehouse.”

”...Indeed.”

It appears that the ability to communicate has no relation to the position of the watch; it’s solely related to the position of the treehouse.

But...

”Is Sister Xuefei’s watch working?” Li Wenxi suddenly asked, ”My watch isn’t working anymore.”

”...Watch not working?”

Ji Chaoyang wasn’t particularly surprised by Li Wenxi being next to Xu Xin, but he was very intrigued by what she said: ”What do you mean by your watch not working?”

”Here’s the situation...” Xu Xin explained.

”Essentially, unable to establish contact with one’s own treehouse?” Ji Chaoyang quickly focused on the main point, then said, ”I’ll wake Xuefei up to take a look.”

With that, he hung up.

Li Wenxi appeared restless, suddenly standing up: ”I need to check back at the treehouse! Don’t tell me the teleportation portals can’t be used either?”

”Hold on; let’s see what’s going on over at Ji Chaoyang’s first.”

”Alright...”

At this moment, a notification suddenly sounded in Xu Xin’s ear.

[Detected that treehouse decoration level exceeds 1000, gaining today’s random enhancement: High Temperature Resistance, effective for one day, you can select a second enhancement from historical enhancements]

[Additionally, you can choose one survivor who has slept in the treehouse for three hours to receive a random enhancement.]

Xu Xin’s eyes lit up slightly.

High Temperature Resistance!

This random enhancement...!

New!

And just by the name, you could tell what it meant!

Indeed, when treehouse decoration exceeds 1000 points, new enhancements appear.

This came at just the right time!

His random enhancements always seemed so timely!

However...

Why did he suddenly feel a bit cold?

He quickly opened the [Random Enhancements] menu to check the abilities of [High Temperature Resistance].

[High Temperature Resistance: Increases the survivability threshold for the maximum temperature by thirty degrees, and the minimum temperature by twenty degrees. Survivors will thrive in high temperature environments, but will also become more susceptible to colder environments.]

?

What’s going on?

There’s actually an ability like this...?

A double-edged sword?

Increasing the maximum survivable temperature by thirty degrees means that originally, he could engage in intense activities in temperatures around forty degrees without heat exhaustion—now it would be seventy degrees.

Given the current situation, it’s indeed a very useful ability.

But there are still drawbacks.

His minimum survivable temperature has also been raised, by a full twenty degrees.

Simply put, the current temperature in the treehouse is about twenty-four or twenty-five degrees, but it feels more like four or five degrees to him.

He’s now wearing a simple outfit purchased from the points mall, which has little to no insulation, so he feels...

So cold!

This ability really is a double-edged sword.

However, it’s no big deal.

After all, if it’s cold, just wear more clothes.

He immediately equipped his long-unused blue-grade leather armor set.

The blue-grade leather armor set has a decent insulation effect. When he first met Ji Chaoyang and Li Wenxi during the falling leaves season, they were all wearing the leather armor set.

The temperature at that time was single digits.

So wearing it indoors now is completely fine, and easy to move in.

”Why did you suddenly put on the leather armor set?” Li Wenxi glanced at him and then brightened up, ”I don’t think I’ve ever seen you in leather armor.”

”My random enhancement had a small hiccup, but it’s no big deal.” Xu Xin smiled, ”Hold on, I have a surprise for you.”

”A surprise?” Li Wenxi was curious, ”What surprise?”

Xu Xin looked at the survivors he could currently select in the [Random Enhancement] menu.

Selectable survivors: Li Wenxi, Qin Fu, Zeng Tao, Li Yajun, Niu Fugui...

A whole string of names followed.

These were the survivors who stayed in his treehouse last night.

He could only select one to grant the random enhancement.

However, it feels like as the decoration level increases in the future, this number should grow.
