Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 791: Chapter 491: The Strange Situation at Night (4600 Words)_2

”...My thought is that during the time you were asleep, there was another period of sustained heat, which is why even though you placed an extra piece of saltpeter, it still got consumed quickly,” Xu Xin speculated.

This was the most reasonable explanation he could think of.

The high temperature would accelerate the consumption of saltpeter, a fact that has been proven by Qi Xuefei’s nursery room.

”This...” Li Yajun fell into contemplation.

”Was there a high temperature again last night?” Li Wenxi was somewhat surprised, but then nodded, ”That should be it. Otherwise, Yajun being so cautious wouldn’t result in such a situation. This weather is too troublesome...”

Normally, the coldest moment in a day is right before sunrise.

That is to say, from two in the morning when Li Yajun fell asleep until sunrise, the temperature should have been steadily decreasing.

By common sense, the three blue-grade saltpeters she prepared indeed shouldn’t have had any issues.

But there are too many things in this world that defy common sense.

They did guard against things that might happen at night, but including Xu Xin, they all thought that even if there was danger at night, it would be something like an invasion of mutant creatures.

Who would have thought that it could possibly be high temperatures in the dead of night!

No one expected night-time high temperatures!

”This is the most likely scenario,” Li Yajun also agreed with this view, ”Under high temperatures, saltpeter would deplete too quickly, but... why does the temperature spike in the middle of the night when there’s no sunlight?”

She was still very puzzled.

”This world doesn’t have so many ’whys’,” Li Wenxi felt that even if considered, such things weren’t very useful, ”Why do you think it can go from minus twenty to thirty degrees one day, to over forty or fifty degrees the next day?”

”This...” Li Yajun was somewhat speechless.

Indeed, in this world, it’s really difficult to reason things out.

”...But that was also foretold,” Xu Xin shook his head, ”Even in this world, changes don’t occur for no reason. The current excessive temperature is clearly due to sunlight. I don’t believe whoever brought us here can control stars or the strength of sunlight, so if we have to explain it, it’s likely something went wrong with this planet’s atmosphere.”

The atmosphere is a planet’s life umbrella, able to absorb and retain heat, preventing a planet from becoming too hot or too cold.

On Earth, at places with high altitudes and relatively thin air, the temperature difference between day and night is much greater than at lower altitudes, precisely because of this.

Moreover, sunlight at high altitudes is exceptionally strong, so skin of people coming from high altitude areas tends to be somewhat darker.

So, the current problem is likely something has been tampered with in the atmosphere, resulting in intense sunlight and extreme daytime temperatures today.

Although quite absurd, it is at least possible. After all, haven’t humans on Earth caused several large ozone holes themselves?

But...what about at night?

Did the temperature really spike at night suddenly?

Not dropping, but rising instead?

Damn...

His treehouse has a temperature control system, so as long as the windows are closed, it’s unaffected by the outside temperature, which meant the survivors staying in his treehouse, including himself, were completely unaware of anything last night.

They merely felt it was an ordinary night.

But...if his guess is correct, and the temperature did spike again last night, then the treehouses without a temperature control must have had issues like Li Yajun did.

If those people survive, surely, someone knows something.

But now that the channel system is blocked, he can’t get information from either the regional or world channels.

The people around him all live in treehouses with temperature control.

Even Ji Chaoyang who pays close attention to environmental changes every night, didn’t notice anything last night.

Xu Xin squinted his eyes slightly.

He had to figure out what happened last night.

These unusual nightly phenomena might just be the breakthrough point for this heat wave!

Moreover, they had no other direction to work towards now, and the mysterious voice after the scorching heat hadn’t appeared even once yet.

”I’ll make a trip to the other treehouse areas, what about you guys, coming with me or...”

”You go ahead; I’ll stay here with Yajun to rest for a while,” Li Wenxi said, ”Besides, I still have to check the smelting room; come back and get us after you’re done.”

”Isn’t it hot to go to the smelting room now?”

”Even if it’s hot, I still have to go, but the smelting room is already very hot, I’m used to it.”

Leaving Li Wenxi’s treehouse, Xu Xin directly activated the portal and first arrived at Wen Guixin’s place.

And coincidentally, Wen Guixin just swung down from her treehouse.

She wore an anxious expression, and upon seeing Xu Xin, she was startled and looked wary, ”Who are you?”

Xu Xin was completely wrapped up, with only his eyes exposed, so she naturally couldn’t recognize him.

”It’s me, Xu Xin!” Xu Xin quickly explained, seeing that she was already preparing to draw a weapon.

”Xu Xin?” Wen Guixin recognized his voice and was somewhat surprised, ”Why are you dressed like this, planning to rob someone? But you came at the right time, something’s happened here! Just...come into my treehouse first, it’s too hot outside!”
