Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Although with Carl’s talents, no matter how hard she tries, she can only reach the level of Carl she encountered in Teraxil before, but if she is content and doesn’t think about tales of the multiverse, this girl’s future is actually not bad.

Moreover, life’s opportunities are never certain, and with the bit of fate she inherited from the Hainarson Clan, perhaps, Carl might seize some opportunity and suddenly soar into the sky!

This situation has happened before, after all.

Therefore, Hill has always asked Carl to enhance her insight and ability to judge opportunities.

This way, even after Hilbert leaves, she won’t make any wrong judgments due to external influences.

Even if Russell travels far to the multiverse, such a Carl wouldn’t cause too much worry.

Moreover, thanks to Aislin and Glaysia... although they’ve caused quite a bit of negative influence among the female mages, there are benefits too.

At least the female mages of Sia Tower and the Tower of Dark Enigma don’t get overly dramatic about emotions.

While they might get lost in love, their life principle also includes believing the next one might be better.

They would never feel life isn’t worth living just because they were abandoned or betrayed by a man.

After much contemplation, Hilbert feels that in such a world, it’s actually a good thing for girls to think this way.

Indestructible and resilient, like a bronze pea that’s both irritating yet living strong.

Hill, who always shields those close to him, believes it’s better to make others suffer for his own happiness than to trouble himself for others’ joy.

Thus, he consistently encourages Carl’s somewhat self-centered remarks... Recently, the little girl has rarely felt inferior about her talents not measuring up to others’.

She can even look sympathetically at her talented brother... simply because Russell hardly gets any breathing space.

If it were the old Carl, she would only envy Russell for accessing higher-level magic and fail to see the great price Russell pays for this access.

Back then, she only relied on her sibling bond with Russell to suppress her jealousy, rather than truly understanding that no matter how high one’s talent, gaining abilities far surpassing others means paying a much greater effort than others.

But now, Carl’s mindset is very calm... She’s become a standard mage.

After all, being Hilbert’s apprentice, he still hopes this girl can find her own place in the world... What would being narrow-minded achieve, even with the attention of the World Will?

Ellie of Aesces indeed gave Hill a lot of warnings.

While teaching students this time, despite knowing there will be many problems... Actually, Hill is aware that his first attempt at teaching will definitely have some omissions.

However, he’s always been good at comforting himself... Even someone as formidable as Fran taught a Melanie!

No matter if Fran’s teaching was rigid, or overly strict, Melanie is still a sixteen-year-old mage in a place like Teraxil!

But Hill’s first realization of the saying that character determines fate was understanding how his young mother’s life has actually been lived.

Thus, Hilbert attaches great importance to the cultivation of character when teaching these two children... not to make them great people.

In the multiverse, a good person is almost synonymous with ”easy to bully.”

While this may not sound flattering... Hill believes that everyone would hope their children and students live like Lansendel, rather than like the Goddess of Peace, whom anyone can scratch.

He only hopes that his students’ lives are principled, ambitious, and forever joyful.

If they are willing to lend a hand to powerless mortals while cherishing themselves, all the better.

But if not, it’s actually nothing... as long as they aren’t the one doing bad things.

Hill’s only expectations for his students, as well as his two daughters, are these.

Perhaps because he is rather selfish and self-centered himself, he isn’t someone with any great love, and naturally wouldn’t require his successors to do good deeds.

Russell gently pushed open the door to the corridor leading to his room.

He was a little tired.

Talking with someone like Koyl really tests Russell’s willpower and spiritual power.

A slight slip might lead to a wrong word.

Although his teacher doesn’t care about such minor mistakes and has enough capability to make up for Russell’s shortcomings, Russell himself is unwilling.

He knew that his teacher has always been measuring how to arrange his and Carl’s life after leaving.

To let his teacher leave at ease, Russell would give his all even if he didn’t want to face this future... After all, no matter who they are entrusted to, no one is more trustworthy than Russell himself if he is capable and resourceful, isn’t it?

Outsiders can at most keep them alive, but only they themselves can ensure their own lives.

But maintaining his learning speed while also interacting with someone like Koyl really leaves him a bit exhausted.

Hmm?

When Russell stepped through the main door, he wasn’t greeted by the elegantly decorated corridor he and Carl had painstakingly arranged, but rather, a valley blooming with various flowers, lush grass, and vibrant life.

Russell sighed helplessly.

His playful little sister was up to her experiments again.

Based on past experiences, Russell walked straight ahead... Carpenter’s illusion technique has improved a lot, but she finds it hard to maintain it for too long.

So Russell didn’t mind and treated it as enjoying the scenery... Ever since learning painting from the art teacher, Carpenter’s illusory realm indeed looks more authentic.

Even the fragrance of flowers, grass, and trees is simulated to seem real yet illusory.

Russell looked around, especially this time... the flowers and plants Carpenter conjured were ones he particularly liked.

Although it started off a bit rough, it seemed to grow more real as he walked.

Ha~

He stopped and sighed, shaking his head: ”The bees are well done, but the butterflies are still somewhat fake.

Have you ever seen real bees?”

The beautiful scene suddenly shattered like a broken mirror before his eyes, disappearing into the air.

Russell couldn’t help but be taken aback, realizing he had already reached the end of the corridor, in front of the shared study room with Carpenter!

Even though he knew he had walked for some time, according to his judgment, he should now be halfway down the corridor, between their door and his!

Otherwise, he wouldn’t have exposed Carpenter’s flaw at this point.

”You’ve learned well!” Russell couldn’t help but commend, ”How did you manage it?

Where did my judgment go wrong?”

”Hehe~” Carpenter peeked her head out from her room, tilting her head to look at her brother who had really fallen for it, ”When you thought the scenery I set was of the type you liked.”

”Hmm?” Russell was a bit puzzled, ”I didn’t walk toward the flowers I like.”

”But you took a couple of glances.” Carpenter walked out of the room, full of smiles, ”I captured your gaze, so I set your path with the colors and patterns you like.

Although you sensed the flaw, you indeed wanted to take a couple more glances, didn’t you?

Once your heart has hesitations, the illusion technique will more or less obscure your perception.

Hehe~

I did pretty well this time, right?”

Russell thought carefully for a moment, then seriously nodded: ”If I didn’t already know you were using an illusion technique, and knew this was the safe Magic Tower, you could have indeed distracted me for a time.”

In the world of mages, indecision can be fatal, not to mention distraction.

Even though Carpenter doesn’t have sufficient attack power, she has a teacher adept at creating strange objects who equipped her with several highly powerful magical objects made by Seventh Circle Mages.

Not to mention she can still make puppets.

Mixing many low-tier golems with her teacher’s powerful ones, Carpenter can hold her ground against her enemies.

Russell nodded in satisfaction: ”Your progress lately is really significant.”

”The teachings from the teacher last time have truly been beneficial for me.” Carpenter couldn’t help but smile with her eyes crinkled.

”By the way, how did you create such exquisite bees?” Russell asked in surprise, ”Last time your scenery was filled with flies, mosquitoes, and large moths.

While it did animate the scenery a lot, it also made people quite uncomfortable.

It was hard to appreciate it.

It’s amazing you came up with that.”

”What can I do?” Carpenter pouted, ”The warehouse in our Magic Tower only has enough of those things that are real enough.

Rommel Mage visited the teacher in the afternoon and brought a beehive.

The teacher made me observe it thoroughly for a long time.”

”Rommel Mage?” Russell was extremely surprised, ”I thought he would try to avoid meeting our teacher!”

Not to cover up any secrets between them, but... to avoid being mocked.

Russell had already sensed the undercurrent between their teacher and that Rommel Mage... Recently, Delphus has been recuperating on Aislin’s spaceship, so that side’s story is temporarily paused.

Oddly enough, their teacher, for some reason, managed to hide in some window corners of Aislin’s red spaceship to view the scenes inside.

And Delphus was left by Aislin in the hall to recuperate... though ostensibly for the convenience of his attendants to care for him.

After all, the rooms in an airship are small and can’t accommodate five or six people simultaneously.

But in reality, it’s obvious Aislin doesn’t welcome unattractive men inside her airship.

No matter how luxurious the airship, all the corridors of its rooms are the same... No matter which room, you can see Aislin’s door.

With that lady’s temper, it’s quite normal to act this way.

However, besides watching Delphus’ impotent fury, their teacher prefers again to shift the giant screen to Rommel Tower, which only showcases all sorts of strangely shaped gifts.
