Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Carpenter sighed softly... the test failed again.

Actually, her painting skills have improved a lot recently, including her musical performance.

But Master Gilbert is always hung up on the past... Besides, even though her playing was a bit monotonous back then, it was still in tune~

If she hadn’t seen what truly talentless people are like, Carpenter would have really thought she had no talent!

Luckily, her art teacher took her to see what innate sound wave attack was like, which gave Carpenter some confidence.

Now, she can draw accurately and play correctly.

As for more, that will take time to slowly cultivate.

But Carpenter felt that at least she wouldn’t be ordered to only practice in the Meditation Chamber, right?

She also wanted to be like those beautiful and graceful young girls, playing her instrument in the most beautiful garden of the Magic Tower, enjoying the scent of flowers!

However, her teacher only allowed her to paint there.

Russell glanced at Carpenter with slight sadness: ”What role are you playing again recently? Some innocent and cute young lady from which family?

Can you tell me the keywords of this character and let me turn it off?

In front of the teacher, it’s better not to continue playing this game.”

Carpenter blinked, the full face of innocence and liveliness suddenly disappeared, and she returned to being the smart, capable, and sensible Mage Carpenter: ”Ah, that’s the line.”

Russell couldn’t help but twitch the corners of his mouth.

”Anyway, if there’s anything wrong, Brother Russell would definitely say this to me!” Carpenter nodded with satisfaction, ”Hehe~ I’m right, aren’t I?”

She didn’t plan to wait for Russell’s comeback and first gave a mage’s salute to Hilbert behind the desk: ”Teacher, thank you so much for tolerating my willfulness.”

Hill smiled helplessly... Carpenter got the inspiration for this role-playing game from his words.

He was bored a while ago and told these two kids stories from other worlds, not expecting it to spark Carpenter’s interest.

Hill didn’t think it was bad for her to occasionally say or do something slightly inappropriate when role-playing, but he required her to set a secret exit word before immersing herself in her constructed drama life, and set a warning line in her Mental Sea: once she felt that the persona she was playing was trying to bypass the soul lock and become the real her, she had to wake up immediately.

In the beginning, Carpenter had to rely on some auxiliary prop items: like false masks to help her create the character.

Hill really didn’t expect that Carpenter, who was mediocre in terms of Strange Objects production and artistic talents, excelled in creating things that could help play a character.

Especially the false mask, she learned it in almost a single day.

Even though Russell could do it too, she is the Carpenter who needs a few days to learn anything!

This girl’s talent points really are skewed.

If she hadn’t met a teacher like Hill, it would probably be hard for her to become an official mage.

But if she lived in a more peaceful or more powerful and prosperous world, she’d surely find her way.

Of course, better not be Toril, otherwise, she’d definitely be a good seedling for the Shuni Church.

Hill thought for a moment, then spoke gently: ”Carpenter, your speed of exiting character roles has gotten very fast, very good, keep it up.”

”Yes! Teacher~” Carpenter instantly beamed with joy.

Compared to Russell, who could help Master Gilbert with many things, Carpenter was a bit at a loss for a moment... Although her duty was to manage the day-to-day affairs of the Magic Tower, but in a Magic Tower with only three people, what could she do?

It wasn’t like the time when the Magic Tower always had visitors, and she could handle reception work.

After the Magic Tower severed external transactions, the only thing Carpenter could do now was to manage her own affairs well and not cause trouble for the teacher and Russell due to her mistakes.

Although difficult, she still did it.

From initially even after being awakened by Russell, needing to be confused for several hours, to now where she could almost instantly wake up, only Carpenter herself knew what kind of torment she had gone through, almost making mistakes several times... At the start, when creating the character, she always wanted to compensate for her past regrets, so being woken from a sweet dream, she was indeed dissatisfied.

But she knew very well that Master Gilbert didn’t approve of her doing such risky acts, and once she made errors, she would likely be stopped directly... It was for her own good, and even Russell wouldn’t plead for her.

So even though she couldn’t wake up on her own yet, Carpenter was already very satisfied.

To achieve today’s level, she has overcome the most difficult hurdles and in the future, she just needs to slowly enrich her character library until she can effortlessly switch in and out of roles. By then... she can even consider using Illusion Technique to ascend to a high level!

Carpenter smiled happily.

Russell glanced at his silly little sister.

This girl still seems not really awake.

On the other hand, Russell himself has developed a deeper understanding of their master’s phrases like ”it’s fine” or ”almost no problem.”

When his teacher imparted some knowledge on illusions or even the Illusion Array to Carpenter, he could feel that although there was little interest in teaching Carpenter some magic incantations, the stories occasionally told to Carpenter were from the perspective of the Law.

Russell received a more complete and standardized education, so compared to Carpenter, who only learned something occasionally, he gained deeper and broader knowledge, leading to a greater understanding.

If Carpenter truly had no hope of reaching the Eighth Ring, Master ”Gilbert” would definitely not waste time telling her content related to the Law.

However, even if she could barely reach the Eighth Ring, or even touch the edge of the Ninth Ring, Carpenter still wouldn’t meet their teacher’s minimum standards!

Russell occasionally smiled slightly when he woke up at midnight... It seemed that his aptitude was indeed promising.

But every now and then, he felt a shiver: just how terrifying was the world outside?

Even in the Sia Tower, the status of an Eighth Ring Mage was far from being compatible even with the ordinary students of the strong ones.

Just like this time, the Grand Magus Glaysia favored the Seventh Circle Mage Rommel, so even if Rommel stubbornly refused, no one would think he was being ungrateful.

A Seventh Circle Mage has the right to consider their own dignity.

What if Rommel were just a junior mage?

Some might say that Glaysia wouldn’t even consider any junior mage.

But Russell had a feeling it wasn’t like that.

If it were his former self, he might have thought so too, but after interacting with this teacher, Russell felt that true strong individuals, when looking down, only choose based on their own preferences, not whether it’s high-level, intermediate, or low rank.

What rank it is actually makes no difference to them.

They are just things that can be easily crushed.

So, Glaysia, who was obviously more capricious than their teacher, definitely acted based on feelings alone.

Though he didn’t know why, when he saw with his own eyes the Grand Magus Glaysia attached to the Mage Rommel, Russell felt a sudden sense of relief.

It was a kind of feeling. The relief of ”I am finally free.”

If this were just his random thoughts, Russell keenly noticed that his prophecy spells had suddenly improved significantly.

Originally, in prophecy spells, he was always more adept at detection and determination spells. True precognition spells were always somewhat challenging for him... He learned the Third Ring’s ”Disguise Recognition” easily, but the First Ring’s ”Preemptive,” a simple prophecy spell just for predicting which direction an opponent would attack from, took him a full seven days.

But at that moment, the prophecy spells he had been struggling to comprehend suddenly all came to him.

Even though Russell had heard that with prophecy spells, sometimes neither the mage’s hard work nor talent is enough: only a sudden flash of intuition can achieve prophecies.

But he truly didn’t expect it to be so uncanny.

”Teacher...” Russell hesitated for a moment, but he spoke up, ”I don’t know why, but seeing the Grand Magus Glaysia fancy Mage Rommel suddenly made me feel incredibly relaxed and happy.

So happy that I suddenly learned detection and investigation.”

Hilbert lifted his head from a desk full of diagrams and gave him a clear-eyed glance... Russell’s fate seemed to have improved a bit.

As one of the so-called Sons of Destiny, Russell really hadn’t received any good fortune, so he might not be familiar with these sudden crisis warnings.

”If your intuition tells you not to do something, then you definitely shouldn’t,” Hilbert reminded calmly, ”It’s a good thing, but you need to learn to make judgments.”

”I understand, teacher.” Although Russell didn’t quite get it, he knew that there were certain things his teacher would never explain clearly.

Sometimes it’s not because he can’t say it, but because Russell and Carpenter don’t have the qualifications to listen.

Those are deadly things to hear, so the two of them absolutely would never need to know.

Hilbert couldn’t resist looking out:

They hadn’t even officially started fighting yet! How come the World Will has slightly recovered?

Was it because the moon lost unexpectedly by Glaysia or because of Aislin’s sudden self-return?

If even Russell started getting enlightenment from destiny, then how was Gilbert Hainarson in the Styx doing now?

If the Red Dragon father and daughter weren’t careful, they might just tip over!

Is it because they are destined to tip over so that Angelterd there in Celene can have a place to shine?
