Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Of course, Fengo knew what Ruth wanted to ask the most.

But did it mean he wanted to find Delphus?

The reason that guy was still alive was not that everyone thought he could be spared, but because no one wanted to investigate the origins of that thing in his possession.

A devil’s life is still a life!

Who would want to melt in the Dawn?

Of course, devils fear death, but that doesn’t mean they won’t fight for their lives when necessary... But is Lansendel something that can be dealt with by just trying hard?

After all, even if devils die, they still have various means to return to the Soul Pool and find themselves when they walk the path of ascension again.

This path is indeed extremely difficult, with perhaps a chance of one in ten thousand, but there’s always a chance.

The reason why devils are so crazily eager to rise to the rank of Duke is that once they become Dukes, they can arrange some means of resurrection for themselves.

Even if it requires enormous consumption, at least it won’t result in immediate obliteration.

Although death is not the end, before dying, their souls are scarred, their spirits brutally struck, and in the end, they don’t even know how they ended up in such a miserable death... Lansendel remaining forever in neutrality is truly a blessing for their Evil Faction.

The reason why Sia Tower has not made a statement about the recent incidents is naturally because those who know won’t take the initiative to intervene in matters related to Lansendel.

They’re not mindless and forgetful chaotic evil, right?

And those who don’t know... what devils dare to get involved without understanding the situation?

As for those in the Neutral Faction, there’s no need to mention them; they simply dare not step into the forefront... Otherwise, the battle between Delphus and that Hainarson would not have occurred.

Of course, this is about those who can get involved in the Ninth Ring Archmage’s struggle and even take a share of the spoils; others will only watch from afar.

But since Ruth already asked him directly, Fengo couldn’t ignore it without a word.

Although he didn’t expect that after such a big event, Ruth would still think of his student’s safety and dignity... If Kamente Tower’s student really followed Glaysia into the White Tower, or even replaced Rosero’s position, it would be hard for Ruth to maintain his supreme position in the Tower of Dark Enigma.

The reason he was able to suppress Kamente Tower before was not just relying on the supreme ruling power of the Tower of Dark Enigma, but also with the cooperation of that Nicholson.

Although there were a few minor frictions between these two archmages, they always presented a united front against external forces... Kamente Tower was certainly considered an outsider, of this no one would doubt.

As for Sia Tower, what allowed Ruth to maintain his position was Nicholson’s demonstrated full cooperation.

But, if the White Tower completely stood behind Kamente Tower... and Kamente Tower was clearly someone sent out by the Black Robe Faction led by Fengo, then even if Ruth remained the apparent leader of the Tower of Dark Enigma, he would inevitably lose real power.

Fengo could see that the mages of the Tower of Dark Enigma had long been turned into scattered sand due to recent events.

A little commotion, a hint of expression, and they could break free from the Tower of Dark Enigma’s bind.

Needless to say, Fengo of course knew that some White Robe mages were trying to disrupt the Tower of Dark Enigma’s actions, and he naturally allowed this to happen.

But the effectiveness was unexpectedly good, which surprised him a bit.

It seemed the rumors about Ruth at the Tower of Dark Enigma were true; he wasn’t really willing to be this leader.

However, as the only surviving member of the Tower Master’s line, he inevitably had to shoulder this responsibility... and he had both the capability and intelligence for it.

Yet Ruth wasn’t interested in managing the Tower of Dark Enigma well or making it perfect.

He completely followed the old rules... In other words, he adhered strictly and conservatively to tradition.

Sia Tower had also observed Ruth for a long time to confirm that he had no intention of expanding the influence of the Tower of Dark Enigma.

Yet they had many expectations for the Tower of Dark Enigma... Of course, one could also say, it was for the Lord of Hell behind them.

To resurrect Bisozeya with the divine form required a faith power that was undoubtedly much greater than deifying someone with a mortal form.

Moreover, it’s not just more... Asmodier had certainly conducted more than one experiment.

It also required the purest of souls to offer the purest faith.

However, in this world, such steadfast and unshakable souls are only found in mages, and they must be of at least the Intermediate level.

But precisely because of their strong will, it’s hard for them to dedicate their faith to any deity.

Even if this deity worked tirelessly to save the world, like the Creation Goddess, their hearts would still hold reservations.

To make the mages completely disregard themselves and put a deity before themselves... Toril’s Goddess of Magic, Mystra, has died three times already.

In the end, Asmodier could only find ways to push these mages step by step to align completely with Bisozeya, making them plead for Bisozeya’s awakening if they wished to survive.

It sounds easy, but in practice, it requires careful planning every step of the way.

The thoughts of mages are truly elusive... just like the Defense Tower.

Sia Tower indeed intended to use the Defense Tower to establish its might.

Establishing authority requires immense power to utterly crush the resisters with overwhelming force.

However, that requires there to be resisters.

Only the stronger the resisters, the more furious the reaction, can the prestige of the Sia Tower be firmly established.

But when they made contact with the Defense Tower, those archmages just found someone they were displeased with and rushed forward to self-destruct.

They even carefully chose mages with fewer numbers, to avoid the damage being shared among many, ensuring their target could not survive.

Fengo naturally suspected that the specific mages targeted might have deeper reasons... For instance, perhaps the Defense Tower wanted to hide some of its bloodline descendants, and these individuals might uncover the truth, or there was something amiss with the Magic Tower they originated from.

But after multiple thorough investigations, Fengo could confirm they were picking targets randomly.

After all, there were two unlucky ones from his and Glaysia’s entourage... even though they appeared to be mages, their true form was that of a devil.

The extremely strange reaction still leaves Fengo in shock to this day... Sia Tower was prepared to let one or two go, then find an excuse to round them up later.

Yet, the Defense Tower totally refused to cooperate, only wanting to die together.

The devils almost believed that this world could also nurture chaotic faction mages!

But tracing back three thousand years, the actions of the Defense Tower’s people have never been just mad or frantic!

Of course, now Fengo understands.

Among those who have interacted with the follower of Lansendel, how many stayed normal?

For some great purpose, they entrusted their soul and future to a certain Chosen full of sincerity and passion, fully believing that their death would be avenged... Such an almost unbelievable approach has never been a miracle around the Lord of Dawn.

No devil can understand, but devils know that the so-called Succubus Paladin and Lust Demon Priest began with Lansendel.

The first Succubus Paladin in Toril was definitely not that very famous one under Tyr, who could be struck by anyone, except her self-healing ability was not worth mentioning.

But those faithful of Lansendel had already gone early to his Divine Kingdom for the love and warmth of the Lord... In other words, they all sacrificed for Lansendel heroically.

Even demons and devils could be so bewitched by the Lord of Dawn, so for the group at the Defense Tower, it’s a small matter.

Thus, it’s understandable why neither Fengo nor Glaysia wanted to handle Delphus’s mess.

Who knows if among Delphus’s students and subordinates, there’s a Morninglight Elect who followed?

They certainly don’t fear this elect.

But how do they handle it if they catch one?

Killing is not an option... Every elect of Lansendel carries his Dawn coordinate.

Although the Lord of Dawn cannot instantly appear beside his living followers, when the soul of a deceased follower connects to his Divine Kingdom, he can directly jump in through that connection.

However, the most troublesome part is, elects of the Lord of Dawn are the least afraid to die.

So, once they make a move to capture him... he might choose to die first.

After all, the Divine Kingdom of the Lord of Dawn never refuses entry to any devout follower.

Unless Asmodier personally appears, the Princess of Hell and the Hell Prosecutor will just play dead.

After all, they don’t feel their life as a devil is so happy they need a bit of Light of Dawn.

Fengo, with a gaunt face, managed a difficult smile: ”Ruth, I understand, your students suffered a bit this time.

But Delphus’s issue, concerning some secrets of the Defense Tower, we also need to handle it gradually.

Let’s do it this way... I’ll first order him not to step foot out of his Magic Tower, and then, once everything is clear, we’ll impose the necessary punishment, okay?

Rest assured, we will only delay, we will definitely address it.

You see, I am also very annoyed by Delphus’s behavior!”

He frowned, his tone hard and full of hatred: ”He, this time, definitely won’t get away!

But some matters are not for me, as the deputy, to decide.

Ah, by the way, Rosero... what are you doing over there?

My people are handling things at Kamente Tower, you...”

Fengo suddenly turned back to glance at Rommel, who was calm and had finished logging his information, then hesitantly asked: ”Did you come to see Rommel?”

Rommel suddenly raised his head... At his left front, a white-robed, soft-featured yet beautiful male mage gazed at him with a dazed expression.

”Not... of course not.” Rosero answered in a distant tone, ”How would I dare!”
