Surviving The Fourth Calamity

”You’re always this dull.” Hilbert mused for a few seconds, then retorted calmly to Aislin, ”But, it sounds like you’re quite envious!

You can give it a try. I see that Sia Tower doesn’t seem to care about such things.”

While the Tower of Dark Enigma has similar affairs, everyone tacitly keeps them beneath the surface... When needed, they’ll retreat to their little house on the outskirts, absolutely not flaunting it in front of colleagues.

But here at Sia Tower, it clearly doesn’t matter, and they might even share their experiences... The only relief is that, to ensure the status of mages, they absolutely won’t play any swapping games.

Even if there’s some quid pro quo involving power and lust, it’s treated distinctly, not like being sold off to someone.

Of course, this also has to do with the fact that the ones backing them are the Great Devils.

Even if the tower’s top seat is occupied by the proud and capricious Succubus Queen, they’re not interested in the chaotic indulgence of demons, especially succubi.

Devils, they’re a bit more discerning.

So, although the environment is decadent, each stays to themselves, and those unwilling to become like them can still have their own space.

Let’s just say, humans, especially mages, never feel like there’s no place for them to survive.

But even so... the analogy of boiling a frog slowly may seem like a joke, but in essence, the outcome is the same.

After all, any frog trying to jump out upon realizing the rising water temperature would be directly knocked unconscious or even killed by the pot lid.

Straightforward little frogs with no escape route can only squat in the water, hoping that before the water becomes lethal, when the lid goes down on another frog, they might find a chance to escape.

Of course, some big and strong frogs might try to topple the entire pot, hoping to lead their kin to a way out... However, these frogs at the bottom of the well have no idea how powerful the giants outside are.

If there’s no external force finding the pot disgusting and attempting to overturn it, the only hope is an unexpected genetic mutation, awakening a little frog into a Slaran.

Everyone with a bit of sense knows how slim the chances are.

So, even if Hill disapproved of the behavior patterns of people in this world, he’d never look down on them.

Every person struggling to survive is worthy of respect.

Thus, even if they’re determined enemies, Hill wouldn’t resort to the disdain of mockery towards them... A clean and swift death sometimes is a good ending.

But Aislin, she must be an exception.

Hill now has a genuine interest in this lady... so much that he could directly speak words he would’ve never previously expressed.

Even for his friends, hearing such words from him was rare... Hill never joked about others’ personal lives.

But, Aislin is different.

Hill needs to use more direct words to discern whose reaction this lady’s truly belongs to.

”I, wouldn’t...” Aislin’s first reaction was denial after understanding his words.

Then she suddenly stopped, gave Hilbert a gentle glance, and suddenly raised her finger, pointing to a group of women speaking together on the other side: ”Do you see, Rojas and her students?”

Hilbert nodded in surprise.

”Do you find them beautiful?” Aislin asked curiously, ”Rojas’ students truly include all kinds of beauties, no matter what style you prefer, you can find it among them.

Gilbert, don’t you feel tempted at all?”

Hilbert couldn’t quite grasp what she was implying: ”There are many beautiful girls, but why must I find a favorite among them?

They’re beautiful in their own way, and I’m living my life, why not?”

Aislin gently tilted her head: ”I can somewhat understand your perspective now.

Mages... their greatest love is spell magic.

When one passion fills an entire life, other preferences naturally take a backseat.

But the former me... ha... as you said, certainly would’ve been very envious.”

Hilbert’s eyes slightly widened: Did Aislin come to a realization?

No, no, wasn’t it that Asmodeus just slapped Glaysia?

Could it be that he disrupted Glaysia’s control over Aislin’s avatar?

Has Aislin begun awakening her own soul?

That, the moon?

Can’t be, right?

What on earth is Glaysia thinking, using external means to control her own soul?

Even if it’s just a little, it’s still hers!

From the state of that Silvermoon, it’s clear... she has only temporarily lost her deities, not completely lost her divine power.

Is Glaysia really confident she can fully control this moon before Silvermoon once again condenses the Moon Goddess?

If she truly had that ability, the moon wouldn’t have been slapped away so easily by Asmodeus!

Flung to the point she couldn’t even control it!

Does this Princess of Hell truly lack demon bloodline?

Hill’s thoughts have already drifted to a bizarre angle... Didn’t Asmodeus bring any hats?

Although, it’s very difficult for humans, but deities and devils, these purely soul-type beings, can, um, gather collective power to form a seed.

Despite knowing he was being silly, Hill was genuinely shocked: He understood Aislin, this woman was saying she and Glaysia are completely different people!

Although Aislin’s previous situation was somewhat off, Hill always thought it was because Glaysia didn’t control her avatar well, causing Aislin’s soul to be influenced by other soul shards, merging with that virtual mask into a new soul.

Though Aislin was different from the original Glaysia... there have been precedents.

Whether demons or devils, they have never been easy to deal with.

Such useful objects as deity avatars, of course they desire them.

But before experimenting on themselves, they would torment the souls of other beings massively... until realizing they can’t accomplish it themselves and then give up.

As beings of soul and flesh, they fundamentally couldn’t understand the law of the body as a soul’s container... Even those Grand Dukes of Hell masquerading as deities couldn’t comprehend why deity avatars exist as if they’re one.

Without divine fire and divine crystal as control centers, attempting to control multiple terminals at once is absolutely impossible.

The avatars later used by devils actually involve controlling a specially crafted body using a fragment of their own soul, somewhat like the Undead Tribe’s elemental body.

But while the Undead Tribe uses a safe method like soul projection to control this body, devils had to use their real soul.

Even just a tiny bit is enough for deities like Lansendel and Celene to directly attack the devil’s main soul.

Regarding the devils and demons, all the numerous experimental subjects they created over time have caused untrackable turmoil, Hill couldn’t even fully recall.

In any case, the end results were never great... Putting aside unfortunate mere mortals, those who crafted these experimental avatars suffered even worse.

However, they merely lost the control over their soul, resulting in the avatar wanting to become the main soul.

Is Glaysia turning her retainer soul into someone else’s nourishment?

How did she achieve this?

Even the often incompetent Old Witch couldn’t do something so foolish!

Aislin glanced at Gilbert... Having been around Oliva for so long, she almost believed people like Gilbert, who respond sensitively and cooperate thoroughly without needing her to say much, were extinct!

Turns out, she just hadn’t met them regularly.

But Aislin understood why she never encountered such types... Male mages of Gilbert’s level, lower in rank and status, would definitely avoid her.

Those stronger... probably wouldn’t bother with her.

Reflecting on the past, Aislin found it more and more incredible.

Especially today, seeing Glaysia flirting with Rommel right in front of her, with seductive eyes and a face full of spring vibes, she only found Rommel’s expressions laughable.

Even Kamente Tower occasionally poking its head from the back was more worth her attention than Rommel’s face.

If it were her former self, even if she wouldn’t be charmed by Rommel, she would at least appreciate the male allure.

It seems ever since ’Aislin’ hurriedly entered sleep mode that day, her mind has cleared day by day.

This world is indeed too hilarious.

Aislin’s lips slightly twitched, displaying a stiff smile, her life too colorful:

First, she was told she was just a mask destined to disappear, even her promiscuous personality and appreciation for men over the years were due to her lack of own soul, only following the soul attributes of ’Aislin’ to behave.

Then, after ’Aislin’ failed to erase her, it was told that perhaps due to merging some law upgrading to Eighth Ring Mage, this mask was nearly sewn onto ’Aislin’ soul... Not wanting heavy losses, the half-dead ’Aislin’ chose to compromise with her, providing ample time to settle affairs.

Even then, Aislin thought her time was merely extended, not expecting anything thereafter.

But suddenly the world changed drastically, without the moon she lived!

She even felt that finding a true method, between her and ’Aislin’, who could consume whom wasn’t, not definite!

Therefore, more than anyone else, even more than Gilbert himself, Aislin was focused on Delphus now.

Even though she was unaware of the moon’s subsequent situation, she knew the cause began with something... the Order Diamond capable of releasing immense firepower.
