Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 513: Chapter 312: What Doesn’t the Earth Bear Eat!

Hill prepared some special gifts again. For the Crystal Flower, she would surely love all sorts of instruments that could be struck or played.

Making these instruments was simple for Hill, and those failed refining threads happened to come in handy.

As for more, Hill used his spiritual power to turn the mithril into liquid gold, gently wrapping it around the stretched-to-the-limit threads.

Sure enough, although the elasticity decreased a bit, the material still remained very strong.

Hill directly commanded these threads to weave into a dark gold robe with a hood.

Turning the demi-god artifact robe into an inner robe and putting on the mithril long robe, Hill looked at himself in the mirror.

With the Ice Snow Ring on him, although he had become much stronger recently, his outward appearance hadn’t changed at all.

The mithril long robe was a bit heavy. Hill adjusted the collar; this robe, though it looked thin, was probably heavier than a suit of armor.

Hill pondered, this mithril long robe should be able to last until he returned to the Ring Mountain.

If there were no problems, he would make a few more later. He didn’t feel the weight at all, and being sturdy was the most important thing.

Hill headed toward the ocean with great determination.

Unable to use acceleration spells, Hill resolutely ran quickly.

As he approached the coast, he saw three Little Bears hunting as a group.

They were attacking a gigantic Magical Beast, which appeared to be a wild boar.

What was terrifying was that this wild boar also wanted to kill the three.

In the wilderness, Oriana and the others’ level made them prey. Their high bloodline made them very attractive to Magical Beasts.

Many legendary beasts were driven mad by elemental storms. Such beasts would not consider how terrifying the Earth Bear standing behind the Little Bears might be.

Hill found it odd; Oriana and the others had been gone for a month, yet they had only reached here, and they were so starved they were fighting a legendary beast out of desperation.

Hill could see how hungry they were; their eyes shone with a desperate gleam as if not killing this boar meant they would starve to death.

Hill glanced around and quickly found the tense Ellaihu watching from a pit.

He thought for a moment, then quietly walked away. It seemed this trial had reached a critical point; the three Little Bears needed to survive this to understand much more.

He walked away, still able to see the fierce battle when he looked back.

Their minds overtaken by animalistic instincts, the three Little Bears—especially Oriana, normally brash, even the gentle Bucky, and the lazy Nils—fought ferociously, their wounds only driving them to attack crazier.

Hill quietly left; this wasn’t a world he should interfere with.

Perhaps it was his closer connection to the Water Law these days, but Hill felt the sea welcoming him once he entered the ocean.

His swimming speed also increased.

Almost half the time of the previous trip, he arrived outside the Crystal Flower’s cave.

Yunifrola happily welcomed Hill’s arrival.

Hill knew it was best to speak plainly with magical plants, so after giving Yunifrola the gifts, he directly stated his intention: he wanted many high-level pearls.

”To give to that bear tribe?” Yunifrola asked nonchalantly. Seeing the instruments filling the ground and the comprehensive guide Hill had given, she didn’t feel like doing anything else but trying them one by one.

Her branches pulled out a very beautiful large shell from behind the cave. Hill held his breath—no, it was a Tridacna, much larger than any he had ever obtained before.

The jade-like Tridacna was entirely pink, with wavy shell edges measuring a full eight meters in length.

Yunifrola handed the Tridacna to Hill. ”The best I had already used; other than the demigod pearls, nothing else means anything to me. I only saved these. These pearls are decent; I threw the small ones into the sand at my feet. You can take them and play with them!”

She didn’t even open the Tridacna shell. To the Crystal Flower, these pearls were the most useless collectibles. If not for considering their use for puppets, she would have thrown all of them into the sand.

Hill took them dazedly; he had only hoped Yunifrola could tell him where there were more shells.

Hill believed there was nothing in this area of the sea that the Crystal Flower didn’t know about.

However, with so many pearls, Hill remembered how Yunifrola had once expressed furious dissatisfaction at sea monsters’ excrement.

Wasn’t this trench once full of shells?

Hill thought it wouldn’t be oysters; at least, they should be butterfly shells.

”Are there any pearl shells around here?” Hill thought a bit and asked.

”Would you go hunting pearl shells? You are a Child of Nature!” Yunifrola asked curiously. ”There can’t be any low-rank magical beasts in these wild seas.”

”I can trade with them. Intelligent, communicative beasts are the best.” Hill resisted the urge to sigh. Whatever kind of pearl shell, they wouldn’t be so attached to their pearls; if they desired something, they would definitely trade with Hill.

Yunifrola awkwardly waved her branches; she didn’t consider there was a non-violent option.

”Two thousand kilometers south of this trench, there is a coral island with quite a few shells.” Yunifrola thought for a while and said, ”However, although they are high-level, they are quite crazy from drinking mixed elemental water. They might not communicate with you; I think they are no different from low-rank magical beasts.

But there is a demigod shell, probably still rational, though stronger than you. It might not reason with you.”

Hill thanked Yunifrola for the directions and smiled, saying, ”With so many pearls, I won’t be heading there anytime soon. If I need more, I’ll ask a demi-god rank Earth Bear to accompany me.”

”That’s good too,” Yunifrola muttered. ”If unreasonable, just kill it. Roast meat from demigod shells is said to taste pretty good. Too bad I don’t want to change my diet.”

Hill chuckled awkwardly. ”It’s just to ensure my own safety, no need to make such a big deal out of it.”

”If you take the Earth Bear, do you still need to reason?” Yunifrola burst into laughter. ”Those reckless bears could wipe out those shells!

Do you think why those shells live two thousand kilometers away now?

They were hunted down in the sea by the Earth Bears! Haven’t you noticed that, even though they are not around my trench, except the demi-god shells, none would come to this sea area?

Earth Bears eat anything! They bite everything to see if it’s edible!”

Hill continued to laugh awkwardly. It seemed he had underestimated this issue. He thought those shells, even if demi-god level, weren’t very big, so the Earth Bears wouldn’t care much.

He forgot that if the shells decided to ignore him, or even attack him, the Earth Bear watching would likely result in their death.

Luckily, Yunifrola had given him so many pearls, enough for Hill to create his Water Curtain Fountain, so he didn’t need to worry about such dangers for now.

Hill thanked Yunifrola solemnly again and left the cave in a daze.

Behind him, he already heard the sounds of instruments, as Yunifrola couldn’t wait to start trying them out.

When Hill returned to the shore, he tentatively searched the nearby area.

He had not stayed long with Yunifrola, so he didn’t know how the Little Bears were doing now.

As he reached the battlefield area, the elemental storm had turned everything to nothingness. Hill couldn’t see how the battle had gone.

He looked around for a bit and then headed directly toward the Ring Mountain.

First, he would check the camp. Ellaihu couldn’t have been away from them for too long.

Hill’s mithril robe admirably lasted until he reached the Ring Mountain without damage, much to Hill’s satisfaction. He decided to make a few more.

As soon as he entered the Ring Mountain, Hill saw Oriana, whom he hadn’t seen for over a month.

She was dejectedly hanging on the highest branch, clearly not having climbed there herself.

Hill swiftly walked in, and as expected, Ellaihu was lying on the climbing frame in the camp.

”Ellaihu, when did you come back? Where are Nils and Bucky?” Hill greeted with a smile.

”We came back yesterday,” Ellaihu said, happily sunbathing, waving his right paw at Hill. ”Those other two are crying at home! Only my stubborn daughter resisted, so I hung her up there.”

Hill chuckled helplessly. ”Did they beat the legendary wild boar?”

”Ah! They almost did. That boar was tough, but it got tired after they prolonged the fight.” Ellaihu embarrassedly used his paw to cover his face. ”Maybe it was my fault. I saw Oriana biting the boar’s throat and got overly excited, releasing a bit of divine power.

That boar suddenly went berserk, threw them off, and ran away.

I didn’t have much food with me, so I had to carry them back. Luckily, we encountered a large beast on the way, killed it, and fed them; otherwise, they would hate me.”

Hill couldn’t help but glance at Oriana hanging on the branch. Had she gone mad and fought her own father?

”Don’t worry.” Seeing Hill’s reaction, Ellaihu stuck his tongue out. ”Oriana needs to calm her mind; she really dares to fight anyone. I’m afraid she might challenge even the clan leader one day! Since she is my daughter, I don’t want to see her get killed.”

Hill laughed helplessly. ”When are you leaving? Is the Water Curtain Fountain cabinet working well?”

”It’s great.” Ellaihu suddenly perked up, sitting up with his massive frame. ”Very useful. Turning it on can quench the thirst of two adult bears at once. That mithril cabinet also withstands elemental storms strongly. I’m leaving tomorrow. Given those three’s behavior, they should behave for a while until we get back!”

It seemed this Earth Bear had tested everything while away.
