Leisurely Traveler with Check-in System

Chapter 150: Chapter 97: Hardcore Teletubbies

As for where we drive to, it goes without saying.

Radio enthusiasts overlap quite a bit with those who enjoy off-roading, outdoor activities, fishing, and adventure.

After arriving here, Li Younan split up from the others and went off with Lu Xiaolan and Xu Liya to handle his own matters.

At first, Lu Xiaolan and Xu Liya showed a tiny bit of interest, but as they followed Li Younan around and took a few more glances, they started to feel bored.

Their little brains couldn’t quite grasp the fun of walkie-talkies.

However, both still obediently followed Li Younan, accompanying him to get the certification.

In the future, this certificate will also have a digital version, so even if the physical certificate is lost, it’s not an issue.

At this point, both Xu Liya and Lu Xiaolan started to understand a bit of the high value of Li Younan’s certification through the staff’s attitude, noticing how respectful they were toward Li Younan!

Just as Li Younan was ready to leave, a staff member suddenly said: ”Mr. Li, we have a competition, and one of the judges can’t make it due to a sudden matter. Could you fill in as a technical judge for us? According to your records, you hold a C-class certification... Your theoretical and practical experience is certainly sufficient, could you help us out?”

Li Younan hesitated slightly, as they still needed to continue on to Chongqing.

He thought for a moment and asked how long it would take.

The staff member was momentarily stunned, sensing that time seemed tight for Li Younan, and quickly replied: ”The contest starts in just over an hour, the entire process is about less than two hours, it’s quite quick, it won’t delay you too much, do you think it’s possible?”

Thinking it over, Li Younan realized there wasn’t an urgent rush to get the two girls to Chongqing.

Since their registration date was actually the day after tomorrow, if they couldn’t make it to Chongqing today, they could take it slow, travel along the way, and rest as needed.

With this thought, Li Younan agreed.

On returning to the square they’d been before, Li Younan and the other two ran into Little Duckbill and his buddies once more.

But this time, they were chatting with a bespectacled college student.

Li Younan went over to say hello as Little Duckbill and his friend were just bidding farewell to the college student with glasses.

Little Duckbill politely said: ”Brother WA, bye bye, good luck with your competition!”

WA was the suffix of the call sign.

At that moment, Little Duckbill shifted his gaze back to Li Younan and enthusiastically said: ”I’ve already signed up, did your affairs go smoothly?”

Thinking for a bit, Little Duckbill curiously asked, ”Is there an A-class exam here today?”

Li Younan didn’t respond to Little Duckbill’s question but instead looked toward the departing college student and asked: ”Is that a friend you just met?”

Little Duckbill nodded and said: ”That Brother WA is someone I met on the forum, he’s a seasoned amateur, and he’s here to participate in a shortwave competition.”

Li Younan blinked: ”Shortwave competition?”

Little Duckbill responded with an ”Mm,” speaking with a hint of envy: ”Shortwave requires a B-class certificate to play.” He added, ”Hopefully, I can get a B-class certificate this time! By the way, Brother Li, what’s your next plan?”

Li Younan looked around, pointed toward the equipment exhibition area, and said: ”I’m going to buy a piece of equipment.”

Little Duckbill replied with an ”Oh,” somewhat excitedly saying: ”After you’re done, come check out the competition too, shortwave communication covers an extremely long distance, that’s why I want to get the B certificate for shortwave communication.”

Li Younan chuckled and said: ”I’ll definitely come by later.”

No choice, after all, he’s a judge, though just a temporary substitute judge, he’s still a judge.

Xu Liya and Lu Xiaolan, feeling bored, went to play nearby, agreeing to wait for Li Younan to call them once he finished.

...

In the exam tent, folding tables and chairs were arranged in rows, almost all seats occupied.

The proctor handed out the exam papers, it was a computer-based test, done on laptops, occasionally hearing birds chirping outside.

Everyone remained focused.

Little Duckbill was doing quite smoothly, submitting the test popped a ”Passed” on the screen, feeling relieved.

After the teacher verified the information, Little Duckbill received a B-class operation capability certificate, pre-printed with the association’s red stamp — a solid card.

Tucking the certificate away, Little Duckbill quickly exited the tent.

Satisfying!

Successfully obtaining the B certificate, marking a new milestone in life!

At this moment, Little Duckbill was naturally thrilled, regrettably his partner didn’t pass.

He laughed heartily and comforted his partner, then hurriedly headed elsewhere.

The partner glanced at Little Duckbill with a somewhat complex expression.

...

The real main event was on the other side of the lawn, at the shortwave competition site.

Several different types of antennas had already been set up, the most prominent being a three-element Yagi antenna with an electric rotator, pointing high into the sky.

Generators were ”chugging” along at the edge of the woods several meters away, connected by thick cables to the operating area, minimizing interference.

Several operators in association vests were doing final adjustments, with quite a few people watching nearby.

The team leader, Teacher Zhang, greeted the spectators: ”Today’s event is global, competing for connections to different call sign prefixes. Outdoors, signal transmission is more stable with less interference.”

”Next, let’s welcome today’s judges, all experienced C-class operators, among them, Mr. Li Younan was invited at the last minute to assist, thank you very much!”

C-class certification holders are mostly older folks, as these individuals have enough time and energy to consistently engage with radio activities.
