Leisurely Traveler with Check-in System

Chapter 134: Chapter 94: Li Younan’s Engraving Knife [6,500 Words]

During this period, it was probably the happiest time for Grandpa and Grandma.

Because of father’s passing, Grandpa and Grandma received care from the village and received social security benefits every month. Plus, Mom always sent money to them, so even without working in the fields, they could live comfortably.

All of Grandpa and Grandma’s lands were leased by a university from another region as experimental fields, and they didn’t need to tend to them, yet they still received some income each month.

The two elderly didn’t have much expenditure, or rather, they didn’t have any expenditure. Materially, they didn’t need much, but spiritually...

Now that Li Younan was here every day, Grandpa and Grandma were always thinking of ways to make delicious food for Li Younan, bringing out the best, which usually meant meat.

They didn’t raise pigs because raising pigs is labor-intensive. They only had a chicken coop, and the eggs there were real free-range eggs.

Every day, Grandma would fry two eggs for Li Younan and Lu Xiaolan.

The vegetables they grew, although not diverse, had a special fragrance from being homegrown on the farm.

Probably due to the variety, they were much tastier than the ones cultivated in supermarkets for longer storage and transportation. Perhaps they were simply more flavorful.

For a while, the kitchen couldn’t be used, so they cooked in the courtyard.

Sometimes when free, Li Younan would compete with Grandma to do the cooking, allowing everyone to taste his skills.

Indeed, Li Younan’s culinary skills were better than Grandma’s, but after cooking two or three times, he let Grandma take over because these were the few joyful moments for the elderly.

Grandpa, having nothing to do, would take a walk outside. Most of the time, when he wanted to do some manual labor upon returning, he would be stopped by Li Younan.

The best way to handle the elderly is moral blackmail. As soon as Li Younan says, ”Grandpa, if you start carrying bricks, aren’t you making your grandson the talk of the town?”

Though a bit exaggerated, Grandpa did worry about such things happening, and he would curse under his breath, saying things like ”Let’s see who dares,” but in the end, wouldn’t compete with Li Younan for work.

After all, Xiaolan was about to enter college and quickly adapted to new things. Nowadays, she had a pretty good idea of what a competent assistant should do.

During live broadcasts, even when Li Younan didn’t speak, she would proactively interact with the audience, chatting joyfully with a few loyal fans as Li Younan’s cousin.

She basically maintained the relationships in Li Younan’s Douyin fan group.

Sometimes she would chat with fans and group members until one or two in the morning and would arrive with dark circles the next day to ”work.”

With Lu Xiaolan’s efforts, Li Younan gained a group of loyal fans.

During this time, she even roped in Xu Liya, and the two occasionally planned activities, leaving Li Younan speechless.

These two ”fan leaders”...

During this time, Lu Xiaolan received her college acceptance letter, which was a source of joy.

Although not as prestigious as Li Younan’s university, it was still a pretty good comprehensive university.

For Lu Xiaolan, this summer had been fulfilling, with good news coming one after another, making her very happy.

Every weekend, Mom would come over and help Li Younan with work. Naturally, Li Younan couldn’t let Mom do heavy work. Most of the time, she would stand by with a puzzled look, watching him work.

But even just doing this already made Mom very happy.

There were important woodworking tasks ahead. Li Younan called Huang Xiaoyang to help procure a batch of lumber.

Huang Xiaoyang’s family had connections with many timber factories, allowing for high-quality wood to be sourced locally without getting scammed.

Woodworking is a very meticulous task. After completing the barebones in a few rooms, they’d need time to air out and dry. Patiently, Li Younan engaged in woodworking.

Whether it was the ceiling or making cabinets, these required a slow and meticulous approach. Overall, woodworking was a bit more relaxed, with not much physical exertion needed.

There were other interesting things.

There was a primary school in the town about a mile or two from the village, not far at all.

Their nearest neighbors had a young boy, about seven or eight years old.

After school, he roamed around and played.

Previously, he often ran to Grandpa’s house to tease the big yellow dog, and he was very familiar. Grandpa and Grandma called him by his nickname, Dou Dou.

After Li Younan arrived, Dou Dou was initially a bit shy and hesitant to enter, but as he became bolder, he openly watched the work Li Younan did.

Especially later when Li Younan started doing woodworking, Dou Dou ran over after school to watch him make wood crafts.

Kids are easily amused. Even just watching someone use a power saw or chisel to create mortise and tenon joints could keep him entertained for an entire afternoon.

After a while, Li Younan couldn’t help but tease the little boy.

The boy was a bit naughty. When Li Younan wasn’t doing woodworking, he would climb trees and wade in rivers everywhere.

Once, Li Younan saw him pick up a fallen baby bird under a tree and attempt to climb up to return it to the nest.

Because it was hot in the summer, Dou Dou only wore shorts and a vest, with no pockets.

Then, in Li Younan’s shocked gaze, Dou Dou spit twice and then clenched the bird’s foot in his mouth...
