Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 1642: Chapter 812: Meeting Zhou Lan (Third Update)

The two hadn’t sat down to chat in a long time.

Zhou Yun asked, ”How did your talk go with them?”

Zhou Lan: ”We just met once, just an initial contact, no progress to speak of, but let’s keep in touch for now. Actually, the film and television industry in Australia is quite developed, especially in terms of industry. Many countries’ film crews come here to shoot.”

Zhou Yun nodded, saying, ”I heard from Elizabeth that the local government here has invested a lot and welcomes film crews to come here to shoot.”

”Yes.” Zhou Lan nodded, ”There’s a film company here preparing a movie, and it has a role for a Chinese character in his fifties, which I think is quite suitable for Teacher You Jiang, so I helped to negotiate a bit. Of course, whether to take it or not is up to Teacher You Jiang. Since he became popular again in ’Behind the Scenes,’ he’s received quite a few offers, especially a lot of offers from domestically. However, I still hope Teacher You can maintain his international recognition and popularity. Right now, many Hollywood productions have Chinese roles, and it would be much easier for Teacher You Jiang to gradually stand his ground than to compete with the elders of similar age in the domestic market.”

Zhou Yun laughed and said, ”Those guys domestically around Teacher You’s age all have God knows how many Best Actor awards, and their national recognition is very high, which Teacher You might not be able to match.”

”That’s why I say, Teacher You should keep going international.” Zhou Lan said, ”In fact, even though there aren’t lead roles, several big Hollywood film companies have supporting roles seeking Teacher You to play.”

”Does Teacher You want to act?”

”At first, he was a bit hesitant, but I persuaded him to accept it.” Zhou Lan said, ”I know those roles are too simple for Teacher You, but I told Teacher You that only by further expanding his recognition and letting more people see his acting will better roles come to him.”

Zhou Yun asked, ”Are there no lead roles available for Teacher You locally?”

”Nothing suitable, you wouldn’t believe the scripts offered, all involve romances with girls in their twenties, which Teacher You himself strongly dislikes.” Zhou Lan said, ”Sigh, there are actually some decent supporting roles, which I’ve accepted on Teacher You’s behalf, but I still want to secure a lead role for Teacher You all at once. Otherwise, if this goes on for a long time, everyone will form a rather stereotypical impression that Teacher You can only play supporting roles.”

Zhou Yun understood Zhou Lan’s sentiment.

It indeed works like this in the film and television industry.

Whether someone plays a lead or supporting role, each company or producer holds an actor list.

When they see you’ve only played supporting roles, they hesitate to give you a lead role.

The lead role has to carry ratings or box office.

Some people, perhaps, don’t always do well in lead roles, but their resumes are full of leads, so others won’t approach them for a supporting role either.

Zhou Lan doesn’t want people to label You Jiang as a golden supporting actor.

Zhou Yun said, ”You should find a good script, whether it’s an art film or a genre film, as long as it’s suitable and Teacher You wants to act, we’ll help him assemble a team to make it.”

Zhou Lan laughed and said, ”Boss Zhou is really financially strong now, impressive.”

Zhou Yun: ”Anyway, money kept in hand is just dead, better to spend it, maybe we can even earn some more.”

Zhou Lan said: ”Do you have enough money? ’Child of Prophecy’ still requires a large amount of spending.”

Zhou Yun said: ”Aren’t you the one who knows best how much money I’ve made? I could film ten ’Child of Prophecy’ movies.”

Zhou Lan was surprised and asked: ”Do you mean to invest all the money you’ve earned over these years into movies?”

Zhou Yun said: ”Since I have nowhere else to spend it, why not, as long as there are good projects and scripts, I’m willing.”

”Alright then, I understand, I’ll go full steam ahead to find good scripts.” Zhou Lan said, ”But by doing this, doesn’t it feel like we’re starting a film company?”

”Please don’t kid us, okay? With this bit of money, we can only afford to make low-budget films, and if we really start a company, it wouldn’t last a year.”

Zhou Yun was realistic with herself; she could afford a movie like ’Child of Prophecy’ with a production cost of around two million, but for any other company, such low-budget films wouldn’t even attract their interest in producing.
