Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 1641: Chapter 811: Speech (7,000 Words) (Part 5)

——If I were Song Chi, I wouldn’t pay attention to Wei Ru Xue either, okay? Zhou Yun didn’t even attend today, yet she still got a subtle jab from her.

——She’s just being bitter about Zhou Yun, a junior from back then, who’s now way ahead of her.

——No need to say it like that though. No matter what, Wei Ru Xue is undeniably a leading figure in the TV drama world, with remarkable achievements to show for it.

——I admit that, but if she’s bitter about Zhou Yun, then she’s just belittling herself.

...

Online voices are clashing intensely.

When it came to awarding Best Actor, unsurprisingly, Song Chi won.

They put in great effort to get Song Chi here; it would be unreasonable not to give him an award, and it’s not even an authoritative one.

Song Chi went on stage, accepted the trophy, and said at the microphone: ”Thank you, thank you for giving me this award, truly delighted, as I haven’t won an award for quite some time. Of course, whether awarded or not, we’ve always been conducting ourselves and doing our work properly. This is a television award, given by TV people to TV people. Someone asked me, Song Chi, why have you been doing fewer TV dramas and more films in recent years? I think movies and TV are just different mediums, but people remain united. Whether it’s film or television, they’re all works, and what we actors must do is make them well. Actually, many great stories are suited for TV as a medium. From the classics of the four great works to many modern stories, they require television, series, to encompass more complex and rich story logic and character relations. I have a company now for producing film and television works, including two TV dramas soon to air on our satellite TV. I’m truly grateful to the seniors in this industry who’ve always supported us. I’ll continue to conduct myself well and make each work well. Thank you.”

...

Song Chi’s acceptance speech spread widely online.

Especially when placed alongside Wei Ru Xue’s acceptance speech.

There’s an edited comparison video to analyze for those unaware, insinuating what underlying message Song Chi’s words might bear.

In a backstage interview, a reporter asked Song Chi whether his acceptance speech was directed at Wei Ru Xue.

Song Chi didn’t outright deny it, but said, ”Actually, it’s also my personal realization over the past two years, especially after running my own film production company. This feeling deepens - making a work requires lots of help, from script to photography, from lighting to logistics, not to mention broadcasting, reviewing, funding, and more complicated issues. In this process, there’s actually no distinction between movies and TV series. Whether I make a film or a TV series, everyone doesn’t care which it is as long as they can help, they certainly will. There won’t be any scenario where film people won’t help TV works or TV people won’t help film works. Creating such distinctions is really pointless and I oppose those who insist on ranking these two differently.”

Song Chi’s interview video got widely shared within the industry.

Of course, some practitioners mockingly sneered: no matter what Song Chi says, the hierarchy in this circle undeniably exists.

Song Chi is well aware of it, but precisely because he knows of this hierarchy’s existence, he calls for its eradication.

Many familiar seniors messaged Song Chi, supporting his speech that night.

Oddly enough, this speech somehow boosted Song Chi’s prestige significantly.

Conversely, Wei Ru Xue’s few reactive words made her seem narrow-minded.

She was furious and upset, but was helpless.

The words came from her own mouth, nobody forced her to say them.

This loss, she could only bear herself.

Very unfortunately, just the day after the award ceremony, a Hong Kong film starring Wei Ru Xue announced its lineup.

Upon seeing this news, everyone mocked Wei Ru Xue. A person supposedly speaking for TV dramas immediately turns around to take on a film role.

Wei Ru Xue read these jeers directed at her, her anger made her face turn green.

...

Zhou Yun, despite being overseas, saw these disputes unfolding domestically.

She was still very attentive to domestic developments.

Especially Song Chi’s speeches from last night, they flooded her social circle.

Many people were forwarding them.

Zhou Yun had a two-hour break at noon and went out to meet Zhou Lan for lunch together.

Upon seeing her, Zhou Lan smiled and said, ”Ah, you, not even being in the country but still getting caught in the crossfire.”

Zhou Yun understood Zhou Lan was talking about Wei Ru Xue.

She said, ”Her issues with me aren’t a matter of One Day or two, just let her be. Sister Lan, did you see what Song Chi said?”

”Of course, I saw it. My social circle is all about sharing this,” Zhou Lan said, ”Song Chi is getting more and more mature. He easily defused those personal bias-filled words from Wei Ru Xue and made a resounding speech for the domestic film circle. Actually, everyone knows that the quality of domestic dramas has increasingly improved over the years, even outperforming many films. It’s just some people stuck in the past refuse to acknowledge this point, always assuming to be Cinema People, looking down on others. Song Chi’s words strongly responded to those people.”

”Wonderfully spoken.” Zhou Yun felt proud.
