Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 793: Chapter 524: An Obstacle of the Heart Difficult to Overcome

”The shooting site of ’Under the Grand Dress’ has received a lot of media attention, with many media outlets sending requests for interviews and filming.

Zhou Lan discussed with He Yong and Zheng Xiaowen and felt that it would be beneficial to maintain some topical heat during the filming process for the play.

Therefore, they selectively agreed to the requests of a highly reputed traditional media outlet, and held a media visit day exclusively for them.

This media outlet did not expect to get an exclusive and was incredibly surprised, especially since they had neither spent any money nor done any additional PR work.

Zhou Lan’s strategy was to both expose and maintain a certain level of mystery.

What does that mean?

Agreeing to one media outlet’s request and giving them the exclusive would definitely cause dissatisfaction among others, considering how much attention ’Under the Grand Dress’ has received—after all, which media wouldn’t want a piece of the action?

Those not granted visitation rights would miss out on this wave of popularity.

However, Zhou Lan didn’t plan to hold just one media day.

”With nearly two months of shooting, I plan to set aside a half-day every week for a media visit day for one outlet, ensuring that at least seven or eight media outlets can get an exclusive of the day. That’s different from letting all media swarm in a frenzy; if dozens of media were to come in at the same time, not only would they compete, but they might also come up with some bizarre headlines to attract attention,” Zhou Lan said. ”By giving them exclusives, one media at a time, we can also control better, whether it’s the content of the final report or the angle they plan to cover, we can have someone specifically coordinate, even providing them with material we hope they would cover, therefore controlling the focus of the publicity.”

”Another advantage is that we don’t tell them exactly how many exclusive reporting opportunities there are, creating competition among them. If they want to secure an exclusive, they need to show greater sincerity—not money, I mean,—but in terms of publicity and promotion during the post-production and airing period for our play. They are in the media industry and have their resources. If they can secure some promotional resources through this opportunity, it will greatly reduce our pressure and investment in publicity and distribution later on.”

Zhou Lan’s analysis garnered support from everyone else.

He Yong even felt this approach could be applied to other plays.

Not only do plays need publicity, but media also need hot topics.

If a play is a hot topic in itself, then there is a space for collaboration and mutual benefit for both parties.

After explaining this proposal to Zhou Yun, Zhou Yun also thought it was a great idea.

No one can deny that we no longer live in an era where ’good wine needs no bush’. In this day and age, in this market, it’s not enough to just do something well; you have to let more people know that it’s good. For a big-budget movie, production costs may only account for half, with the other half spent on publicity and distribution.

As publicity costs continue to rise, being able to lock in subsequent promotional cooperation in this way can indeed save a lot of money for the crew.

On the other hand, Wan Lanlan from ’Victor’ also called Zhou Lan to discuss a plan from ’Victor’.

”’Under the Grand Dress’ itself is a fashion drama, and its target audience greatly overlaps with our ’Victor’ readers. I have a plan to start a five-issue column in ’Victor’ magazine, each revolving around a theme, and inviting the director, actors, and Behind the Scenes staff of ’Under the Grand Dress’ to share their thoughts and opinions,” Wan Lanlan said. ”Of course, we hope that Zhou Yun and Teacher Zeng Lili participate every month. No need for long articles, just like posting on Weibo, a few hundred words of thoughts will do.”

Wan Lanlan’s plan was in line with Zhou Lan’s idea.

Especially since the ’Victor’ column was not only inviting actors but also the entire crew, which would greatly bolster everyone’s identification with the drama.

”I’ll discuss with everyone, I personally love this plan, it fits very well with the theme of our play,” Zhou Lan said smilingly. ”I’ve heard Lanlan that you’ve also started a WeChat public account, posting some push articles, and I’m thinking, maybe we have more extensive cooperation potential.”
