Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 778: Chapter 519: Good Luck With the Start of Filming

Zhou Yun first peeked at the visitor through the peephole and realized that the person knocking was Cheng Shenlv.

She opened the door somewhat surprised, and looked at her with confusion.

”Do you need something from me?”

All of a sudden, Cheng Shenlv bowed deeply at a 90-degree angle.

”Sister Xiao Yun, I’m sorry, it’s my fault.”

Zhou Yun was startled by her abrupt action, ”What are you doing?”

Cheng Shenlv clasped her hands tightly, her eyes slightly red, hesitating to speak, ”I said some things before that I shouldn’t have. I’ve come to apologize to you.”

Zhou Yun’s feelings suddenly became complicated.

She scrutinized Cheng Shenlv’s face, and at this moment, Cheng Shenlv’s expression of apology seemed genuine, but the sincerity was a bit too late for Zhou Yun.

Zhou Yun fell silent for a moment, then said: ”Come in.”

Cheng Shenlv followed Zhou Yun into the room.

”Take a seat,” Zhou Yun told Cheng Shenlv.

Cheng Shenlv sat down with a bit of nervous unease.

”To tell you the truth, I was indeed a bit angry because of the words you said,” Zhou Yun got straight to the point, without uttering insincere words, ”But why you said those things, what kind of mentality you had, I can guess a bit. I guess that when you were filming before, you also suggested adding scenes for your character. Of course, maybe you think that you weren’t demanding to add scenes unreasonably, but rather asking from the standpoint of the script and character. Even the directors you worked with before praised you for having ideas and told you to stick to them.”

Cheng Shenlv looked at Zhou Yun in astonishment.

Because what Zhou Yun said exactly matched her past experience.

She was surprised that Zhou Yun could guess so accurately.

”I’ll also tell you why I was angry.”

Zhou Yun’s serious expression made Cheng Shenlv a bit nervous.

Cheng Shenlv’s palms began to sweat.

”Firstly, if you want to add scenes, it shouldn’t be your agent doing the talking with the director, from the moment you chose to let your agent negotiate, it stopped being a discussion about creation, but turned into a different kind of negotiation. You’re an actor, you have thoughts and ideas about your role, nobody would say anything if you communicated with the director. But by having your agent speak for you, have you thought about what that represents to others? If the director eventually agreed to add scenes for you, did your agent promise him some kind of benefit? Or was it for some other reason? I don’t know if your agent did that, but I, and everyone aware of this matter, would be suspicious.”

Zhou Yun’s words struck Cheng Shenlv profoundly.

This was something she had never considered before.

”Second, different crews have different rules, different scripts have unique characteristics, if you had studied this script carefully you should know, it’s not a very artistic script, to put it bluntly, this is a story created to cater to the market’s needs and preferences. Such a story, each episode has its inherent storytelling rhythm, the amount of screen time each character gets has its business considerations, why did we organize so many script meetings? It’s because we hoped to clarify all confusions regarding characters, logical holes, as well as your thoughts about your own roles and screen time. If you had brought up your thoughts during the script meetings, that would be commendable; if it’s helpful for shaping your character, without detracting from the script’s original excellence, we might have agreed. But you chose to approach the director privately.”

Zhou Yun spread her hands.

”Third, the director didn’t agree to your request, and this is his professional duty as a director because the director knows very well what kind of outcome we want for this play. Sister Lan went to talk to you based on my first two points, so she approached you in private, hoping that you would understand that the script is not something an actor can change on a whim. However, you not only failed to understand Sister Lan’s intentions, but also perceived her action as my instigation. I think deep down you probably didn’t really believe that I instigated this, you know that at this point, I wouldn’t need to handle this matter myself, but you needed to find an excuse for your pride and vanity. Therefore, you did not reflect on what you did wrong in this matter, instead you interpreted the whole incident as me suppressing you.”

Cheng Shenlv’s face turned pale.

As white as a sheet.

Every word that Zhou Yun said seemed to dissect her heart as if it were being carved out.
