Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 759: Chapter 512: A New Plan (Part 3)

What should a good actor be like, and what should good acting look like?

These are things that Director Kang Xin personally helped her to establish.

Zhou Yun trusted Kang Xin.

Kang Xin laughed and said, ”Had I known it was this easy to get you on board, I wouldn’t have gone through such trouble to schedule a meeting with you. Here I thought it would take quite an effort to persuade you.”

”Aiya, you have such little faith in me.” Zhou Yun covered her own chest with one hand, exaggerating her posture, ”I am wounded.”

”If you’re willing to act, then I have no issues. I’ll have someone send over the script to you later, let me know your thoughts,” said Kang Xin, ”I think you will enjoy acting in this drama very much.”

”Okay,” Zhou Yun nodded.

After the chat with Kang Xin, Zhou Yun went home with Song Chi.

Song Chi said, ”You agreed to Director Kang’s offer to do the movie so quickly, aren’t you afraid that you won’t be satisfied with the script later on?”

Zhou Yun pondered for a moment before speaking, ”To tell you the truth, I really trust Director Kang Xin. No matter what kind of movie he asks me to act in, I am willing to take the role, because working with him is comfortable. You know how I felt filming ’Four Killers’; it was so depressing. Hou Mengjie is talented, and some of the scenes he shot look great, but it was a completely stagnant experience for me. I felt like a puppet, performing actions under his strings, following his instructions. It’s different with Director Kang Xin; he truly treats you like a thinking person and communicates with you. He respects me greatly.”

Song Chi nodded, ”A good director can give actors that kind of security.”

”Yeah,” Zhou Yun said, ”but Yao Yuanfeng has always been persuading me that if ’Four Killers’ does well at the box office, we should do a sequel.”

”If the box office is really good, why not do a sequel?” Song Chi said, ”The filming process might not have been enjoyable, but it can give you positive feedback. Box office performance is very important to an actor.”

”I’m well aware of that.”

”You see, ’Behind the Scenes’ has already made over four hundred million at the box office, which is a small miracle, but for a commercial film, that’s just considered decent,” Song Chi said, ”I’m not suggesting that an actor should pursue box office earnings above all else, but the box office is important, really. You definitely don’t want to become an actor who is praised but doesn’t draw in the crowds, because that leads to an awkward situation of self-admiration.”

Zhou Yun just hummed in acknowledgment.

Song Chi took Zhou Yun’s hand and said, ”Okay, did what I say upset you a bit?”

”Mhm.” Zhou Yun nodded, ”Actually, I understand everything you said, and it’s fine when Sister Lan says these things to me, or when Yao Yuanfeng or He Yong say them, but I don’t want you to say these things to me.”

”Ah?”

”You need to support me, no matter what decisions I make, you have to support me,” Zhou Yun said somewhat petulantly.

Song Chi quickly laughed and replied, ”Of course, I support you no matter what decisions you make.”

”Mhm.”

Zhou Yun rested her head on Song Chi’s shoulder, ”Lately, I’ve been feeling quite tired, as if there’s an emptiness inside me. It feels like I’ve obtained everything, yet nothing belongs to me. I find myself infatuated with the value of art, but I know that’s not good.”

”You’re very lucky; you became famous too quickly, and all at once, you’ve been presented with some of the best things, and you’ve been placed on a pedestal. Everyone has higher expectations for you now. They want you to make real film art, to deliver even more brilliant performances, and so on,” Song Chi said, ”I’ve been through this phase myself.”

”What happened afterward?”

”Nothing much, I gradually adjusted myself,” Song Chi said, ”We can only do what we’re capable of. We’re not born for any added value.”

Zhou Yun smiled.

”But you are also trying your best to do something for the industry, right? Without you, it might have been a long time before anyone was willing to produce a drama like ’Mother’,” Zhou Yun said.

”That was within my capabilities,” Song Chi replied.

”Mhm.”

”I would never fully commit to an area where losses are a certainty,” Song Chi said, ”I’m just willing to take a risk within a limited scope.”

”You’re underselling yourself.”

”This is the second insight I gained after becoming famous; never elevate yourself too high,” Song Chi finished, smiling, ”Really, the higher you lift yourself, the more painful the fall when you come crashing down.”

Zhou Yun: ”Yes.”

”After we finish Director Kang’s film, I have another movie here waiting for you to act in.”

”Hmm?” Zhou Yun was surprised.

Song Chi said, ”I’m planning to have Yu Zhiyang take the male lead role for this movie, fulfilling one of your wishes.”

Zhou Yun looked at Song Chi in astonishment, seeing the smile in his eyes, her emotions were complex, and she gradually felt moved.
