Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 788: Chapter 522: Struggles on Multiple Fronts (2)

Su Yan’s words took Jing Jingcheng by surprise.

The two had collaborated before, with Jing Jingcheng having experienced Su Yan’s arrogance and ignorance, as well as her temper.

Su Yan had smooth sailing in her star career, getting her early break and maintaining long-lasting fame with He Ting’s guidance, always being held in high esteem wherever she went. Jing Jingcheng didn’t expect, after being out of touch for a while, that Su Yan had changed so much.

Such words, if it were before, Su Yan would definitely not have been able to utter them.

It had long been heard that Su Yan grew a lot during the filming of ”Heart Inquiry,” having been mentored by Kang Xin and in competition with Zhou Yun. Seeing her today, indeed, she had changed quite a bit.

Jing Jingcheng also became somewhat tempted.

If he really took Su Yan’s suggestion, the investment for ”Stepmother’s Law” would definitely increase significantly, and there would be no worries about attracting sponsors. With Su Yan’s name as the lead actress, many advertisers, especially those brands she endorsed, would be interested in collaboration, which would greatly reduce the risk.

The dinner was enjoyable for both the host and the guest.

But Jing Jingcheng had not anticipated that his project would also catch the attention of Song Chi.

Song Chi personally visited his office.

Facing Song Chi, Jing Jingcheng didn’t dare to put on airs as he did with Su Yan. Nowadays, Song Chi was not just an actor but also the owner of a film and television production company, with several projects well underway. His status in the industry only went higher, never lower.

”Why have you come to visit me?” Jing Jingcheng, seeing the cane by Song Chi’s hand, said with a smile, ”Just give me a call, I’d come to see you.”

Song Chi smiled and said, ”Sitting around all day, it’s nice to get a chance to move about.”

Jing Jingcheng brewed a pot of tea for Song Chi, saying, ”I just got a hold of some fine tea, give it a taste.”

Song Chi nodded with a smile.

After some small talk, Song Chi said, ”Brother Jing should know that my company has also signed a few actors?”

Jing Jingcheng nodded, ”Of course, I’ve heard you even signed Chen Xi. Ah, if it wasn’t for her divorce back then, she wouldn’t be lagging behind Su Yan and the others today. It’s a pity, she’s wasted so much time, and the audience has almost forgotten her.”

”So Brother Jing knows about this,” Song Chi chuckled, ”I thought Chen Xi had long been forgotten. Looks like I judged correctly.”

”She has good acting skills, and she held great promise back then. I had also thought about casting her, but at that time she was in high demand and I couldn’t secure her schedule. Later...” Jing Jingcheng shook his head with a faint smile, ”Later, I didn’t dare to cast her anymore.”

Song Chi nodded understandingly.

”At that time everyone was criticizing her, so it was risky to cast her. But now, several years have passed, and the divorce uproar has subsided. Brother Jing, do you want to consider using her again? You’ve said it yourself, her acting is really good.”

Jing Jingcheng looked at him in surprise.

Song Chi said, ”Actually, I know that you’re currently preparing ’Stepmother’s Law,’ and I also know that you particularly want to find a talent-oriented actor for the role. I’m aware of your concerns about using Chen Xi, but I can assure you, if there’s a shortage of funds due to casting her, my company can cover the shortfall. Additionally, I know there is a very important role in ’Stepmother’s Law,’ the mother of the male lead. If you agree to cast Chen Xi, I could ask Hongyu to make a friendly appearance in that role.”

This implied that Chen Xi could bring in investment for the cast.

And to add Hongyu to the mix!

Jing Jingcheng had not expected Song Chi to value Chen Xi so highly.

To be honest, if it weren’t for the fact that both Su Yan and Xu Siyao were keen on this film, Jing Jingcheng might really have been tempted.

”Stepmother’s Law” was not a hot market topic to begin with, which is why he put great effort into trying to cast popular actors.

And still, the performance couldn’t be subpar, lest it gets mocked upon release.

Chen Xi’s image and acting skills were both unquestionably up to par, and having dealt with her before, Jing Jingcheng had no doubts about it. Speaking of which, Chen Xi was praised for her acting talent early in her career, and within a few years, she became known for her acting skills among her peers, being nominated for the Best Actress award multiple times, a true testament to her solid ability.

In Jing Jingcheng’s view, the only downside to Chen Xi was that she no longer had much of a fanbase; the audience had almost forgotten her.

Jing Jingcheng hesitated for a moment, but considering Song Chi’s respect, he ultimately couldn’t refuse to his face.
