Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 789: Chapter 522: Many Forces Competing (Part 3)

”Nowadays, there are quite a few actresses interested in this film, so I can’t give you a definite answer right away.”

Song Chi nodded understandingly and said, ”I get it, Brother Jing. Anyway, if there is a suitable role for Chen Xi in the future, whether it’s a leading role or a supporting one, as long as it’s outstanding and has good production quality, please consider Chen Xi first. I believe you, like me, wouldn’t want to see such a talented actress disappear from the screen forever. That would be a loss for our industry.”

Brother Jing smiled, ”Of course, I’m also happy that you’ve signed Chen Xi to your company, I really thought she would never act again.”

After sending Song Chi off, Jing Jingcheng pondered for a long time.

”Stepmother’s Law” being favored by so many actresses was not a surprise; Jing Jingcheng had planned to release the news to the entire performing arts circle if he did not find a suitable actress.

However, he didn’t expect that the news of the play had secretly spread and alarmed so many people.

Jing Jingcheng deliberated for a long time, weighing between several candidates.

...

Xu Siyao thought that since she had offered to lower her fee, Jing Jingcheng would surely agree to invite Huaichun to act in the play with her.

She was quite excited these past two days, having just finished filming a movie with Su Yan and was about to join a short series to fill her schedule.

This series was also a self-produced show by Yuehai, with only twelve episodes, featuring a popular historical romance theme.

She was waiting to finish this series to smoothly transition to filming ”Stepmother’s Law”.

Her acting skills were solid, so she believed that if she could find a good script, winning an award would be a natural progression.

Right now, ”Stepmother’s Law” was that great script.

As for the current project ”Half City Rain,” she took it just because there was a slot in her schedule; not taking it would be a waste.

Completing this twelve-episode series could earn her a substantial eight-figure sum.

Certainly, Yuehai was willing to pay her such a high fee because the male lead was his newcomer, and this play was purely to promote the newcomer.

That evening after dinner with the director, while returning and resting in the car, she idly browsed Weibo only to suddenly see a post from a film and TV blogger she followed with her secondary account.

”Actresses compete for ’Stepmother’s Law’ – Ruxue, Su Yan, Xu Siyao, and Chen Xi who has just returned after many years. What’s so special about ’Stepmother’s Law’ that attracts so many actresses?”

Xu Siyao was momentarily stunned upon seeing this post.

She hadn’t known that so many people were vying for this role before.

Her previously confident assurance suddenly vanished.

Anxiety surfaced in her heart.

Except for Chen Xi, whom she hadn’t heard of until now, she believed she couldn’t compete with the other two.

Why would they also be interested in this drama?

Xu Siyao fell into worry.

If someone else snatched this role...

Xu Siyao suddenly realized that she might have made a mistake in asking Jing Jingcheng to cast Huaichun as the male lead.

Would Ruxue and Su Yan make such a request?

No, unlike her, they didn’t lack confidence in carrying a drama, so they’d probably prefer less popular male actors to ensure all the spotlight was on them.

Xu Siyao was momentarily torn, unsure whether to contact Jing Jingcheng now to retract her earlier request.

But she also worried that hastily retracting her request after this news might diminish others’ view of her.

A complete mess.

...

Zhou Yun saw some revelations about ”Stepmother’s Law” online and took a closer look since they involved acquaintances, but she didn’t expect to see Chen Xi’s name in the list.

She had only recently learned that Chen Xi was signed to Song Chi’s company.

What surprised her even more was that Chen Xi had also made it to the trending searches.

Because the cast of ”Stepmother’s Law” was so dazzling, the inclusion of the unfamiliar name, Chen Xi, made many curious about who she was.

Clicking in, bloggers had already sorted out Chen Xi’s background, and everyone learned that this person was also formerly a famous actress.
