Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 768: Chapter 515: Script Reading Meeting (Part 3)

Zhou Yun said, ”Director Ning Yufeng had previously worked on two dramas, both involving young actors, and he has a way with them.”

”I watched the dramas Director Ning worked on before, they were really good,” said Wan Fangli, ”It’s just a pity that although they were well-received, they weren’t very popular.”

Zhou Yun said, ”I will pass on your compliments to him.”

She smiled.

”I have already heard it.” Ning Yufeng suddenly appeared, carrying a tray and sat down next to them.

Wan Fangli was startled, ”You scared me, Director. How do you just appear out of nowhere like that, it’s frightening.”

Ning Yufeng laughed brightly and gently, saying, ”I didn’t appear out of nowhere, you were just too engrossed in your conversation and didn’t notice that I had been standing next to you for quite a while.”

”Ah? Director, you were openly listening to our conversation?” Zhou Yun said laughingly accusing him, ”That’s too much! Luckily, we weren’t speaking ill of you!”

Lili nodded in agreement.

Ning Yufeng laughed heartily.

Among young directors, Ning Yufeng is extremely talented, otherwise his previous two works wouldn’t have received such high praise.

However, along with this, Ning Yufeng is also very proud. A talented director actually always hope to have absolute control over his team. But for ”Under the Grand Dress”, it’s clearly not possible for him to have control, either in terms of the cast or the script, the decision-making power isn’t in Ning Yufeng’s hands, which initially made him somewhat dissatisfied. But eventually, the outcome was not too far off from what Ning Yufeng wanted, and he let go of much of his discontent.

But Ning Yufeng still hoped that he could have the final say in this crew.

He wasn’t sure how to express this, or to whom he should speak, feeling that no matter how he said it, it wouldn’t sound right, and he harbored some dissatisfaction towards Zhou Yun.

In fact, he was quite excited about the opportunity to work with Zhou Yun.

Especially after ”Behind the Scenes” and ”Warm Little Horse” were successively released, conquering the box office and winning critical acclaim, which director wouldn’t dream of working with Zhou Yun?

He was truly excited to get this opportunity.

He didn’t want Zhou Yun to feel that he had anything against her.

But while he was still hesitating about whether to speak up, Zhou Yun did something unexpectedly touching.

At the first decision-making meeting after joining the team, Zhou Yun said, ”From now on, I’ll be fully committed to my acting, and as for all other aspects of decisions and judgments, everyone should do their own part. If someone needs to approve something, go to Wang Kaidie for production matters, and Ning Yufeng for content.”

This was essentially ”delegating authority.”

Then Zhou Yun added something that moved Ning Yufeng even more.

”For all matters related to artistic creation, what’s really taboo is everyone thinking they’re right, so don’t expect when I say I want a blue sky and white clouds, you all try to make it happen, and then when Wang Kaidie wants Gothic style, you try to blend Gothic into the blue sky and white clouds. The set only needs one voice, and all the production departments should follow that one voice,” Zhou Yun said, ”I think this voice should naturally be Director Ning’s. Of course, if Director Ning whimsically wants to build a castle on set, please, President Wang, stop him since you manage the finances.”

Wang Kaidie smiled and shrugged.

Zhou Yun’s words established Ning Yufeng’s authority at the production level.

And at the actors’ meeting, Zhou Yun, very proactively as the leading actress, supported every one of his judgments, setting a direction for the actors.

From then on, Ning Yufeng had no further objections.

Through the interactions with Zhou Yun early on, Ning Yufeng gradually understood what kind of person she really was.

She is not weak, not just a pretty face that listens to others. She has her own thoughts, her own convictions, and she speaks substantively.

But she is also not domineering, not overbearing; she doesn’t expect everyone to follow her rules.

She thinks thoroughly before making decisions and once a decision is made, she doesn’t waver or have regrets.

Ning Yufeng likes to work with such people, it’s ”difficult” but not difficult to collaborate with. He has to put his whole effort into reaching a consensus with her, which isn’t something that can be achieved casually. But once a consensus is reached, she steadfastly supports you, cooperates with you, and moves together towards the goal.

Ning Yufeng thought, this is perhaps the kind of actress every ambitious, talented director dreams of collaborating with.

As an actress, she is almost perfect.
