Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 776: Chapter 518: Top-Tier Actor (Part 2)

But this is just an assistant’s idea, bearing no substantial significance.

Zhou Yun asked, ”Xiaoju, does the whole crew know about this now?”

”Yeah, it’s spread everywhere, even the cooking auntie heard about it,” Zheng Xiaojue said. ”Everyone is a bit curious about how you’ll deal with her.”

”Deal with her?” Zhou Yun chuckled lightly, ”You make it sound like I’m some kind of she-devil.”

Zheng Xiaojue giggled foolishly and said nothing more.

Zhou Yun pondered for a moment and asked, ”Do you know who first started spreading this gossip that Cheng Shenlv spoke of?”

”It must be Guan Siya. The two of them are from the same company. It was when Cheng Shenlv was drinking privately with Guan Siya that he complained to her about it. It might have been Guan Siya who mentioned it to someone else, and then that person spread it around. Ah, there are no secrets in a film crew,” concluded Zheng Xiaojue.

Zhou Yun pictured Guan Siya in her mind.

”Sister Xiaowen was right; where there are more people, there is more gossip.”

Zheng Xiaojue: ”Sister Xiao Yun, aren’t you really planning to do anything? Cheng Shenlv has been talking so badly about you behind your back, wouldn’t everyone find it odd if you remain indifferent?”

”What’s odd about that?”

”It looks like... you are easy to bully?”

”Could it be that they all want to take turns bullying me?” Zhou Yun scoffed, ”You’re thinking too much. If I were to go against her just because Cheng Shenlv talked behind my back, I’d be petty over some mere hearsay.”

”Sister Xiao Yun, you are really too magnanimous,” said Zheng Xiaojue.

”Is that so? Then according to you, what should I do to not appear so... magnanimous?” Zhou Yun asked.

Zheng Xiaojue thought for a moment and said, ”At least you should show that you are displeased with her.”

”I thought I already made it very clear.”

”Maybe... it could be clearer?”

Zhou Yun thought for a long time, nodded, and said, ”Then remind me later if I haven’t made it clear enough.”

Zheng Xiaojue immediately nodded in agreement.

Upon arriving at the hotel, Zhou Yun got a call from Song Chi.

”Where are you now?” Song Chi asked.

”At the hotel, just finished a script reading meet-up. Did you again receive some tip-off that you are calling at such a timely moment?” Zhou Yun said.

Song Chi laughed, not responding to Zhou Yun’s question, but asked, ”How did the script reading go today?”

”It went pretty smoothly overall. Choosing the right actors early on saves a lot of trouble later,” Zhou Yun replied, ”What about you? I heard from Sister Lan that you signed an actress.”

”Don’t overthink it. Yes, I signed an actress, but she’s my senior and had supported me before. Right now, I’m looking for actors and thought of her. Her name is Chen Xi, do you know her?”

”I kind of remember, but can’t quite recall.”

”She acted in several dramas before, but her divorce was messy which led to a period when no production team dared to employ her. Once the public opinion blew over, she couldn’t get any good roles and slowly faded out, only being 29 years old,” Song Chi said. ”So, I communicated with her several times recently and persuaded her to sign with my company. I hope to help her out, as she’s raising a child on her own and needs work.”

years old... Zhou Yun felt slightly relieved, as there’s still an age difference between her and Song Chi.

Zhou Yun said, ”Okay then, next time you should introduce her to me.”

”I will. I also hope you have a suitable role for her,” Song Chi said smiling, ”Recently, I’ve been helping her pick some suitable projects. In the selection process, they’re either supporting roles; for lead roles, basically no one wants to use her because they think she’s past her prime. This industry is weird; it’s willing to give chances to newcomers but not to a capable actress.”

”What do you plan to do?” Zhou Yun asked.

”Still trying my best to negotiate. Currently, there’s one drama that’s very suitable for her, ’Moonlight Lovers’. I hope to secure it for her, but it is proving difficult. The production team thinks she can no longer pull off the lead role, that having her won’t generate any attention or discussions.”

”Is Chen Xi really no longer attracting any attention?”

”Not really, it’s just that the divorce really hit her hard,” Song Chi sighed, ”Divorce has too great an impact on an actress.”
