Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 352: Chapter 307: On the Rise: 143

”Miss, don’t forget that you are supposed to make money for the company. Even though we now have the autonomy to choose our projects, if you want to take on films that pay less but you are interested in, you need to boost your KPI in other areas first. Otherwise, even if He Yong doesn’t say anything, the headquarters is still watching you.” Zhou Lan spoke bluntly.

Zhou Yun has reached a position where she is no longer just a small-time artist.

Her every move affects the stock price fluctuations of Chengqian.

Zhou Yun complained, ”It’s really troublesome.”

Zhou Lan continued, ”It’s not just this issue. There’s also ’Luoyan,’ that drama from our company which you were interested in before, but Lew Qingqing had already taken it, so you stepped back. The company wants you to make a guest appearance in that drama.”

”Forget it.” Zhou Yun directly refused.

”I initially thought the same, you’ve already done ’Dingfengbo’ for the company this year, it’s unnecessary to make a guest appearance just to boost Lew Qingqing. However, the company proposed to create a spin-off series specifically for the character you’d guest star as,” Zhou Lan explained, ”I remember you were quite fond of the script of ’Luoyan,’ so I wanted to ask if you’d be interested in doing another show set in the same universe?”

Zhou Yun fell into contemplation.

”If you don’t take this role, the company will have other projects for you. We can’t just keep accepting external roles and not take on roles from our own company. I was thinking, if you’re going to act in another drama, it might not even be as good as this one. Liang Haiyuan would be the producer, the screenwriter of ’Luoyan’ would write a new story, and the company promised to bring in a director as renowned as He Luochuan,” Zhou Lan said, ”So I was tempted.”

In fact, for Zhou Yun, the best path right now would be to cash in on her current momentum, shoot more movies, try to seize the moment to win several impactful awards, especially the significant domestic film awards, to solidify her status.

But that is difficult to achieve.

One can’t focus solely on her development, the company isn’t her babysitter.

The company gives her the freedom to film artistic movies like ’Life’ that don’t make money, but she also has to do money-making commercial dramas like ’Dingfengbo’ that the company wants.

Even Tony Leung has acted in dramas as well.

In his early years, he did plenty of TV dramas, but as time passed, those works became obsolete and forgotten with the development of times, unknown to many.

Zhou Lan’s words were not without reason.

Zhou Yun thought for a moment and said, ”Sister Lan, arrange a meeting with these people, let’s meet and talk about it. If the project is good, I might take it.”

Just like why Jun Jihyun guest-starred in ’Kingdom’ season two due to Netflix offering her a standalone film set in the same universe of ’Kingdom’ where she was the lead.

Although the film received poor reviews after its release.

Zhou Yun indeed liked the script of ’Luoyan’.

There are many fantasy-themed drama series, but few are well-written.

If the same scriptwriter were in charge, Zhou Yun would indeed still have high hopes.

This way, she could act in a drama she likes and also meet the demands of the company—killing two birds with one stone by making a guest appearance.

Zhou Lan nodded, saying, ”I’ll make the arrangements.”
