Chapter 259: Chapter 257: Victoria Tower (87/160)

Gu Xi pushed open the rusty iron gate and crawled out of the sewer outlet.

While inside the sewer, it didn’t feel like much, but after crawling out, Gu Xi felt like he was marinated through and through.

What he wanted most was to change his clothes and wash them.

Even if he had to wear wet clothes afterward, it didn’t matter.

The soldiers who crawled out behind him probably had the same thought. After crawling out of the sewer, they immediately sniffed themselves with faces full of disgust.

There was even one who was bleeding several rats he just caught, planning to use the blood scent to mask his smell.

”Alright, enough. Can someone recognize this place, determine where we are, and how far it is to Victoria Tower?”

After suppressing his discomfort, Gu Xi spoke to the soldiers.

Upon hearing Gu Xi, a few soldiers stood up, surveying the deserted streets before one of them pointed in a direction.

”Victoria Tower is over there.”

Gu Xi looked in the direction the soldier pointed, seeing a stretch of dark clouds.

”How do you know Victoria Tower is over there?”

”Victoria Tower only has crows, no griffins. Look at the griffin flight paths in the sky.”

Following the soldier’s approach, Gu Xi found it to be true.

With Victoria City ablaze, the forces within were continuously deploying or suppressing something.

Being part of Britain’s flying team, griffins naturally were quite busy, yet no matter how busy they were, they never flew to a certain location, not even passing over it.

Without someone pointing it out, one wouldn’t notice anything amiss.

But once pointed out, Gu Xi naturally saw the problem.

He wasn’t foolish enough to ask if there was something wrong with Victoria City’s crows.

Instead, he pointed in that direction.

”Let’s head over there first.”

The resting soldiers heard him and quickly got up, tidied their armor, and readied their weapons.

The strongest holy knights didn’t march at the front as before; instead, they dismantled gates from nearby, placing Eldest Princess Anna’s body on top.

Six holy knights solemnly carried the body forward.

The remaining soldiers surrounded them with weapons drawn, protecting Eldest Princess Anna.

Seeing them in such formation, Gu Xi did not demand a charge from the soldiers. He gestured, and a city gate appeared behind him, from which his undead soldiers quickly exited.

This time, it was two heroes leading their troops; Gu Xi didn’t release his main forces.

Not that Gu Xi didn’t want to, but the situation in Victoria City wasn’t suitable now.

”Arroyo, lead your troops to clear the way ahead. Robbie, keep your troops close to the convoy and prevent anyone from approaching.”

After the two heroes emerged, Gu Xi assigned them their positions.

Then, with a swift movement, Gu Xi mounted the evil coffin. Having traveled for so long, he was tired, and with a mount available, it was foolish to continue on foot.

His two hero subordinates, on the other hand, lacked high levels and mounts to ride.

As the troops moved forward, they marched alongside their soldiers.

After deploying his troops, Gu Xi threw caution to the wind, opting for a full-on collision and charge mode with his forces.

With Victoria City nearly emptied, Gu Xi didn’t have to worry too much.

As Gu Xi’s forces accelerated, following soldiers also picked up the pace.

Their actions quickly captured the attention of nearby onlookers.

Several griffins appeared in the sky with yellow feathers, slicing through the wind like knives.

Reaching Gu Xi’s forces, they intended a charge but upon seeing the body of Eldest Princess Anna being safeguarded, all griffins descended.

Their descent drew the attention of other griffins.

Griffins formed a critical air force for Britain, boasting strong combat power and intelligence as their greatest trait.

Mature griffins possessed human-level intelligence, enabling them to judge battlefield situations independently.

Encounters with one or two talented heroes might even allow communication with griffins.

Seeing companions drop directly, other griffins grew curious about the commotion.

Knowing griffins rarely landed on flat ground, as it hindered immediate takeoff, a swarm of griffins flew over.

They saw Eldest Princess Anna being carried and swiftly descended, following from a distance after her body was carried past.

In this moment, Gu Xi realized the high esteem of Eldest Princess Anna, or the British royal family, among citizens and soldiers.

Gu Xi felt his efforts justified, realizing the task of returning Eldest Princess Anna’s body was right.

The griffin gathering inevitably caught the eyes of others.

In a nearby apartment, a man with coal-gray skin and bright red cracks on his face watched the gathering griffins.

”So many griffins gathered, it must be to escort those demon leaders to Victoria Tower again. They’re brainless, having had incidents several times yet still behaving this way.

But good for me, eliminating another royal member will complete my collection of six royal blood and lives.

Though they aren’t the identities required by the Mirror Image Underground Palace, they’re sufficient.

I’ll enter the Mirror Image Underground Palace, into that mirrored city.

That city will be mine.”

The man laughed heartily.

After the laugh, he took out an iron whistle, like one freshly pulled from an oven, and blew it forcefully.

Such an iron whistle was used by Scotland Yard to disperse crowds; yet in his hands, it became an attracting tool.

Black ash gathered to form shadowy figures under the whistle’s influence.

Swaying as if dispersed by strong winds any faster, they moved steadily and determinedly towards the griffin assembly point, heedless of their frailty under the whistle’s command.
