Worthless Profession: Dragon Tamer

Chapter 711, Falling Star Ice Lake

Translator: Silavin

Lu Fan’s primary reason for coming to the Far North was actually to explore the Frost Dragon Ruins. Him coming to the Griffin Legion base camp was for multiple reasons. He wanted to obtain information regarding the Frost Dragon Ruins, if there were any routes available. Simultaneously, Lu Fan also wanted to understand the current state of the Blood Moon’s Owner, to see exactly how much time remained before its awakening.

Lu Fan shared the Frost Dragon Ruins Explorer’s Journal with Tu Jing, while also providing its Map Coordinates to Tu Jing.

Tu Jing immediately found the relevant recorded materials from the mountain of documents, offering them to Lu Fan as reference.

Though the Frost Dragon Ruins was indeed in the Far North, the Far North was simply too vast. The Griffin Legion’s base camp was separated from the Frost Dragon Ruins by thousands of kilometres.

Combined with the harsh environment of the Far North, the Griffin Legion had not developed far enough to reach the Frost Dragon Ruins.

In other words, to reach the Frost Dragon Ruins, Lu Fan would need to explore while advancing through unfamiliar terrain.

However, the Griffin Legion could still help him.

According to the exploration data, if one wanted to reach the Frost Dragon Ruins from the Griffin Legion base camp without taking a detour, one would inevitably pass through a place called Falling Star Ice Lake.

This was an extremely special Map. Though called a ‘lake’, it was actually so vast it seemed boundless. It was akin to a barrier directly blocking any possible exploration.

This Falling Star Ice Lake had an extremely peculiar Map Mechanics as well: ‘Meteor Fall’.

The so-called ‘Meteor Fall’ referred to clusters of meteors that would randomly refresh on The Falling Star Ice Lake.

These meteor clusters were scattered across The Falling Star Ice Lake, forming an unavoidable barrier that hindered Players from passing through.

Among these meteor clusters, some meteors could be directly destroyed. While others absolutely must not be touched.

Once touched, they would produce violent explosions that even Heavy Armour Type Players would not be able to defend against.

This was because the explosions seemed to deal Damage based on a percentage of one’s Health Pool. No matter how high one’s Defence was, being hit by these meteor clusters would result in death or severe injury.

In other words, no matter how high Lu Fan’s Attributes were, he would be helpless against these meteor clusters.

The best method was to distinguish which meteor clusters could be directly destroyed and which needed to be avoided at all costs.

This task was not easy, requiring the experience and assistance from specific Profession’s Skills.

The Griffin Legion had actually already overcome the Falling Star Ice Lake’s blockade during their previous dispatch.

However, the Monster Levels after the Falling Star Ice Lake increased dramatically, with many reaching over Level 100. The Griffin Legion members were no match at all, so they could only abandon their Exploration Missions in that direction.

Moreover, the Falling Star Ice Lake’s Map Mechanic had forbidden teleportation relation items to be used. Therefore, the outpost the Griffin Legion left was about five hundred kilometres from The Falling Star Ice Lake, which was still a considerable distance.

After understanding these circumstances, Lu Fan could not help feeling somewhat helpless, because from what Tu Jing said, there were only two methods for him to find the Frost Dragon Ruins.

One was to cross The Falling Star Ice Lake; the other was to go around this Map entirely.

The latter choice could basically be discarded.

According to the Griffin Legion’s exploration records, they had already explored nearly a thousand kilometres along the boundary of The Falling Star Ice Lake and had yet to find its end.

The Falling Star Ice Lake was like a natural barrier blocking the way, making it impossible to avoid.

However, it was not impossible for Lu Fan to go around it.

After all, with his strength, exploring in the Far North was not difficult.

But no one could guarantee just how vast the Falling Star Ice Lake truly was.

If Lu Fan rode his Ye Sha along the Falling Star Ice Lake for over ten thousand kilometres and still could not avoid it, he would be wasting a considerable amount of time there.

Therefore, the best method was still to directly pass through the Falling Star Ice Lake.

Tu Jing also believed this was the most efficient approach. So, after confirming Lu Fan needed to cross the Falling Star Ice Lake, he immediately arranged for an expert to be transferred from Dragon Capital.

This expert was the one who had previously helped the Griffin Legion cross the Falling Star Ice Lake.

He had the Hidden Profession, Detective, possessing essentially no combat capability whatsoever. All his Skills were used for scouting Map Mechanics, traps, and etc.

This Player was extremely wise. After changing to such a Profession, he never expected to achieve anything in combat, so he devoted himself early to researching Maps and was currently a famous Map Surveyor in Dragon Country.

Dragon Country’s higher-ups had repeatedly invited him to help overcome difficult points in exploring certain Maps. Each time, he demonstrated considerable effectiveness.

Being able to quickly understand the Falling Star Ice Lake, he managed to lead a team to overcome it, and traverse through it. In short, without him, they would never have been able to get through the Falling Star Ice Lake.

Therefore, if Lu Fan wanted to reach the Frost Dragon Ruins, it was best to invite this expert over.

After making a phone call, Tu Jing told Lu Fan that he was currently being arranged to come here.

However, creating a Transport Array to reach the Far North would require at least three to five days.

During this time, Lu Fan would temporarily stay in the base camp. Once he arrived, Tu Jing would arrange for this famous Map Surveyor to accompany Lu Fan to the Falling Star Ice Lake.

Lu Fan readily agreed to this.

As the saying goes, ‘sharpening the axe does not delay one in chopping wood’. Spending three days waiting for this expert to arrive would definitely save more time than trying to go through the Falling Star Ice Lake on his own.

Thus, Lu Fan remained in the Griffin Legion’s base camp. During the three days, he even accompanied Tu Jing to observe near the Blood Moon’s Owner.

Soon, three days passed, and the Map Surveyor from Dragon Capital finally crossed through the Transport Array to arrive at the Griffin Legion base camp.

Lu Fan and Tu Jing immediately went to welcome him.

Contrary to Lu Fan’s expectations, this Map Surveyor was not particularly old. He appears to be around forty years old, tall and lean, wearing glasses with a refined and elegant appearance. He wore many warm clothes, showing that his Attributes must be quite low, unable to withstand the Far North’s low temperatures.

This person’s manner of speaking was also very proper, completely like that of an intellectual, earning Lu Fan’s praise.

Because the Far North was cold, this Map Surveyor named Hou Zhiwu also wanted to complete the Mission quickly and return.

Tu Jing did not waste words, immediately arranging two Griffin Legion teams to escort Hou Zhiwu, following Lu Fan to the Falling Star Ice Lake.

Though Lu Fan could certainly ensure Hou Zhiwu’s safety, after crossing the Falling Star Ice Lake, Lu Fan would continue advancing towards the Frost Dragon Ruins, while Hou Zhiwu would still need to return back to base camp.

Therefore, the protection of two Griffin Legion teams was an absolute necessity.
